Won't Start
« on: December 01, 2005, 02:36:41 AM »
When I try to turn on protection, I get an error:

"The AAVM Subsystem detected an RPC error.  The operation could not be completed."

How do I fix this?

Chuck Billow

When I do that, it still doesn't work....

I get an error:

"Couldn't start the Avast Antivirus server on Local Computer.

Error 1068:  The dependency server group failed to start."

I tried uninstalling and then re-installing... same error.

Now what?

Does this post help?

You may like to browse the entire thread.  Also, I remember some RPC related threads while ago, which can be found through the search function.

No it didn't help at all....

I did a search and found none of the culprit files...

I searched the thread you directed me to as well, but found no error like this.

Also, I disabled any startup progs I have except for avast, and I'm still getting the error...

??

This is often associated with having had another AV on your system, did you have another AV installed, if so what?
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

"Couldn't start the Avast Antivirus server on Local Computer.
Which operational system are you running?
Which avast! version are you using?

Sorry for the delay, I just got in....

This is now a non-issue since I had to restore from a prior image, and all is working now.

I would like to know what caused this originally if possible.

I'm running Win XP SP-2 and 4.6 Pro

I got the same proble this morning. In the event viewer, it had "error" and something about the service stopping unexpectantly.

The ball had a red slash through it.

I tried following the steps to fix it in services, but no dice.

Was it a recent update??

Anyway, after uninstalling a reinstalling, and it still not working, I uninstalled it, and downloaded it from the Avast website.

I installed, rebooted, but then it tells me my OS has been updated, and I have to reinstall Avast. That didn't work.

So, rather than go without protection, I uninstalled Avast, and installed AVG again.

Oh, BTW, i found this in event viewer:

Event Type:   Error
Event Source:   Service Control Manager
Event Category:   None
Event ID:   7000
Date:      12/1/2005
Time:      10:50:03 AM
User:      N/A
Computer:   MASTER
Description:
The avast! Standard Shield Support service failed to start due to the following error:
Incorrect function.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

And here is the first one:

Event Type:   Error
Event Source:   Service Control Manager
Event Category:   None
Event ID:   7034
Date:      12/1/2005
Time:      10:38:11 AM
User:      N/A
Computer:   MASTER
Description:
The avast! Antivirus service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).

Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?
Any other security program or startup monitor (PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, Ad-watch, TeaTimer)?

I don't have any of those programs you mentioned.

Wait, I have Win Patrol. But Avast and Win Patrol have been working fine on my computer from day 1.

The trouble with the RPC started this morning. The last Avast update was at 7.

The only major change, was copying files from Drive E: to Drive D: in safe mode.

Maybe the 'again' could have left AVG parts behind and avast was not properly installed.
Did you have (in the past) any other antivirus in this computer?

No, only had Avast since the last reformat of my computer, which was 10/20/05. And why did it start today??

How are set your avast! services?
Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services

I suppose you have to have four avast! services:

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe (avast! antivirus service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashUpdSv.exe (avast! Update Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner service)

The two first of them should be Automatic loaded and the two last Manually loaded.
