Does someone know how to check the services are really up and running, even though the UI says otherwise?
Maybe posting a guideline (in the other thread, which is still pretty short at the moment) helps calm down the panic.  :)

Click Windows Start => in search field type services.msc then enter. Scroll down to each Avast listed service => right mouse click each service to check if you have the option to STOP.

If that's the case, the services are supposedly running.

Also on the right pane, check the 3rd column Status (by default it should be Automatic or Started for each service. If stopped right click and select start). Don't trust this column explicitly. Right click - properties to check full status on a specific service.

I just stopped then restarted all Avast services again to get back online after these issues started  (although the GUI is still messed up.). According the sticky, Avast services are, supposedly, still running in the background.

What a shame Avast :'( as I was about to installed the latest version until I've read through this topic, it really sad that the beta section has jumped to soon releasing to the final version without any further QA control checking before they make sure the last beta version was stable enough to go through the final stage.

What happen to the old fashion way. Why? did Avast change the beta testing way as before in the past, otherwise you've wouldn't caught up in this mess in the first place.

Shame shame shame  :-\

Lost an hour yesterday sorting out safeprice. Two hours today trying to fix broken update. Uninstalled and switched to Panda.

So long and thanks for all the fish.

I have the problem with the
12.2.3126.2

You have the .0 !

I tried
  • to "repair" from Avast
  • Also from settings, program, "modify" Avast and repair
  • Also tried to uninstall it and re install from scratch
Same problem.

Fixed. All fresh installations are OK from now on.

For existing affected users, fastest way to fix it is to run C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\AvastEmUpdate.exe and then reboot. Others are getting the fix anyway, it just takes some time.

Sorry for being so brief, we were working hard to get the fix in the production ASAP. You were protected the whole time. The issue was in the GUI - it did not know Avast service is in fact running.

Thanks for your patience,

Petr

All fresh installations are OK from now on.
That's very misleading.
The offline installer for the free version is still the same (230,102,040 bytes)!

The problem was not in the installer, but in one emergency update which is also being downloaded during the installation. And that is fixed now.
