just as the user neonaus has stated, I too have spent the last 4 hours trying to figure out why no update was taking place on my PC, being clueless about a possible bug from avast. I resinstalled about 5 times. Furthermore, Just today I paid the $19.99 fee for the Internet Security pack, and it was impossible to update (neither with that version or the basic one after reinstalling several times). Every time I tried to activate the pack it impossible. A times it stated that the online content/update was unavailable, or an array of errors just kept on taking place on my PC from avast.

Not happy form the lack of information to the customers.

You have our mail adresses. At least you could send an information mail about this issue. Before I found here, I formatted my disk 2 times and I re-installed my applications. I spent my 8 hours for Avast's foolish mistake at week-end.  As a member for 6 years, I am very disappointed. This must be fixed within this time.

In the morning, when I upgraded to the new version, I thought that this was a specific problem. Since neither the fault disappeared after reinstalling, I began to suspect. Then I read the Avast forum to see what happened. As long as there is a mistake, I use Avira Antivirus.

Since I also run Spyware Blaster, Spybot S&D 1.6.2 and Windows Defender I've now gone to Microsoft S.E for now till this resolved it may not be the best but it's lighter than other I can think of I won't go back to the bloatware thats AVG thats for sure

Has totally screwed up my system
 I am totally UNPROTECTED I spoke to avast after an hour wait on phone
  told its a conflict with new windows and their new nitro
     YOU HAVE NO PROTECTION - you can still get on the net BUT only visited sites you know

                 I Love avast but this is most foolish act i have seen any anti virus DO it is their job to make sure their will be no conflicts I can't even imagine how many people will end up with viruses let alone I already know 50 or more people in my tech group uninstall it and move to Avira

Maybe to lower the blood pressure a bit, my newly upgraded Windows 10 laptop, in the "Security and Maintenance" section, says: 1). Avast Antivirus has been switched on. 2.) Protection against spyware and unwanted software is running by Avast Antivirus.

So, Windows 10 sees that things are being protected and I now tend to trust Windows better than Avast.
Reason? Although I'm not a huge MS fan, I've seen them spoon a complete new Windows operating system into a running system without a major glitch.
I even had visions of the good old days when programmers were still highly skilled specialists,  who could do without the overhead of noob managers, planning personnell, time consuming procedures, project meetings and costly quality asurance processes.
Ahh, those were the days!

On my notebook winning Win10 Home 64 bits, i had the very same problem.

I reinstalled Avast 4 times.

The 3rd time, I used avastclean utility, and i downloaded the installer from myAvast page (the pro version).

At the end of the installation process, the program seemed running fine, until I uninstalled the 2 privacy components:
- secureline vpn
- passwords

From that point, RTS stopped working.

Up to now, the only way to keep it running is to:
- remove the program by using avastclean utility
- install it, without even clicking the personalization button.
- keep these two components

I tested with the virus test file and confirmed the realtime protection is not enabled.

Obviously everyone is pretty upset about the whole situation, myself included as I spent over 4 hours yesterday trying numerous ways to get Avast to work (including restoring Windows 10 back to a clean install)... So I think it may be helpful if Avast staff could let us know if we should expect an update today or if we will have to wait a few days (just to stop everyone posting to ask if an update is ready etc.).
