Oh come on now. Get off the man's back. Tech does a great job on helpdesk. And that first reply to the OP is all important, Tech takes it upon himself to answer those OP calls day in day out. I know there are others that also do this, but so what, doesn't make his effort any lesser importance. Even if he annoyed me to high hell, like actual promote Comodo brand, I would still make an exception in his case.
I think that Tech's real issue is with the potential that the cloud can provide to the antivirus software, in particular with firewall that can sit in cyberspace and be run through the browser. Obviously if the user has antivirus software run as browser then various options are open to the devs, and Tech has been asking questions about these options. With reference to Comodo I think perhaps because their cloud scanner indicates a direction they look to take, where the user need not power a security center through desktop but rather through specialist online Servers that have various services designed to fulfill the users security needs. I don't want to speak for Tech, but my feeling is that he suspects Commodo are being the more innovative of the two brands. In street speak, they are stealing a march on Avast.
I see good reason to keep pace with what Comodo are doing and I imagine Avast is taking notes on their moves.
Also, remember that Tech uses VM ware to trial and test software releases. He is likely to be impatient for cloud initiatives, particularly in view of news reports that tell us that the entire computer industry have or soon will have bought into the cloud concept to some degree or other. In the cloud scenario, the firewall will be seated more or less in the equivalent of a demilitarized zone (the external attacker only has access to host in the DMZ) such that host services powered by desktop processor are less exposed (if not wholly eliminated) as the attack vector. Possibly, also, browser is always sandboxed. And obviously, very conducive to VM ware. On the surface of things anyway.
Time machine I think is standalone Comodo module, may run okay with avast. But I do not know these Comodo things as I have no experience with Comodo at all.
I feel happy to stand up for Tech. I sleep well with that thought.
And partly because for the first time I am having update problems with IE (the kb979909 issue, which is .NET downloads), if I don't solve soon and with easy method (no uninstall) then I will probably post the problem to the forum.
