And now for something completely different  ;D

If you are using 7-Zip and like me, hate the default icons it uses for archives, here is something you might like that changes the icons to ones that are much nicer.

 http://www.adrive.com/public/39e57e395423ea72f5c853f1b610ddcddd0f7469b6368f588e1926c020d70b5a.html

I found that this only works for the 4.xx versions of 7-Zip. The 9.xxx versions install the program in a folder called 7zip instead of 7-zip. The updated version of the files are at:  http://www.adrive.com/public/c4ca5964ef81040e42892885b0921ac6f6c40d5e448d46a42caba79189036739.html  and there are .reg files to use with both series of 7-zip.

Well the comodo link is useless as it its to a restricted location only available to registered users on the comodo beta forum.
Thanks for reporting David. I wouldn't know that if you haven't point it out.

Tech does a great job on helpdesk.
Thanks.

Even if he annoyed me to high hell, like actual promote Comodo brand, I would still make an exception in his case.
I'm not promoting anything. Just sharing my personal experience. This thread is about "Interesting Software and System News", that was what I've posted.

I think that Tech's real issue is with the potential that the cloud can provide to the antivirus software
Indeed. I'm trying to make avast better and better and like to discuss technology progress.

I don't want to speak for Tech, but my feeling is that he suspects Commodo are being the more innovative of the two brands.
Indeed, I'm not an expert on it. I let with avast team. Just trying to learn.
I'm posting about products that aren't avast competitors.
By the way, a lot of us do that and there are a lot of threads about third party software:

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=1509.0 with 158400 views at the moment.
And a lot of others...

Also, remember that Tech uses VM ware to trial and test software releases.
You're right.

He is likely to be impatient for  cloud initiatives, particularly in view of news reports that tell us that the entire computer industry have or soon will have bought into the cloud concept to some degree or other.
You're right again.

Time machine I think is standalone Comodo module, may run okay with avast. But I do not know these Comodo things as I have no experience with Comodo at all.
It's a very powerful system restore feature.

Has anyone checked out the 7-zip icon changer I posted about?

I did I downloaded it, opened the zip file read the readme file copied the icon folder to 7zip and am non the wiser as to how to change the default icon as there doesn't appear to be any setting in the 7z option to change it and nothing in the readme file about changing it either.

So I still have the default 7z icon.

You don't have to change anything. All you have to do is run the .reg file and that will make the changes. The registry settings have to point to the new icons.

Ah, don't know why I didn't even see the .reg file in there. I though it would be internal to the program.

Thanks, will give it a try.
