Gmail's new look
I absolutely hate the new look with it's vast wasteland of pure white and no borders around anything. I told them so in a feedback but I'm sure it will have no impact. Being that I only go to the actual Gmail page about once a month just to clean out the trash folder, I don't really care that much how it looks though. I get the mail through Windows Mail and I have a custom rule for Gmail that bypasses the Spam filter and sends me everything. The mail also gets deleted automatically but annoyingly ends up in the trash folder. GMX does not do that. When my GMX mail is retrieved by Windows Mail and automatically removed from the server, it's completely gone. It does not go in the trash folder. Only mail you delete manually on the GMX page itself will wind up in trash. Gmail should work the same way and it's one of the reasons why it will never be my main or default provider.

Email like browsers are something you get used to.
In the beginning I also downloaded everything to my computer by using Outlook Express or one of the other programs
and wasted all that hard drive space on my computer.
Now, the only things I store on my hard drive are the items that are important to me. I actually forward the important email
to the email address that's checked by Live Mail.
The rest can remain on their (google's) server.

You're not wasting hard drive space if you delete the mail after reading it. I almost always do that. I have a special folder in Windows Mail called Stored Mail where I keep the ones I might need or want to read again. There are never more than 10 in there and even they get cleaned out eventually.

Since I'm always on-line, why waste the extra time to download what's already visible at Gmail ???

It's cool but they're limiting their sales potential in two big ways. First by making it only run Linux and secondly by having a weak graphics implementation.

For the IE9 users among us, I found a neat little addon to block ads and tracking. I wasn't blocking ads at all since adblock wanted money for the service but there is one site I visit every day, mmo-champion.com, that was loading it's ads so slowly that I couldn't even scroll the page until they were finished loading. I tried the addon I found and there are no more ads or loading problems. You can find the addon at   http://privacychoice.org/trackerblock/ie9 .  It's totally free and the list gets updated every week automatically. As an alternative, you can also use EasyList which is based on the same list used by AdBlockPlus and updates every 5 days. You get that one at   https://easylist.adblockplus.org/en/

I use hpHosts and MVPS HOSTS files to block ads and tracking.

It works on XP, Vista and Windows 7.  ;D

Plus hpHosts file is updated daily.

For Chrome I use an extension called AdBlock and it works very well, It actually uses the Easylist and a custom list of it's own by default. It also has the option to use the list from PrivacyChoice and a lot of others.

The Easylist in IE9 doesn't seem to work as well as the PrivacyChoice one and seems to slow page loads while letting some ads through.

I was also wrong about how often PrivacyChoice updates. It's every 3 days and Easylist is every 5 days.
