[MOVED] Google identified as unsafe search engine?
« on: January 03, 2017, 02:10:04 AM »
What is up with the several popups from Avast IS over the past couple of weeks complaining my default browser search engine (google.com) has been reported as unsafe?  Surely you jest.

15 day old thread and the only one that is mentioning this.
Seems to me it is specific to the OP's system.

Do you have the Google toolbar installed Greg ?

No Google toolbar installed.  Windows 10 pro - Firefox is my default browser with google being the default search engine.  Avast Internet Security and MalwareBytes Premium. Ublock plugin is installed for Firefox.  All scans are clean from both Avast and MWBytes.  The popup only occurs every 2 weeks or so seemingly.  I use this computer 6 hours a day on avg and it never gets shut down.

It's not like this is a big deal, I just assumed it was some issue with an update to Avast.  Kind of like how aol will end up being listed at Spamhaus or Spamcop on occasion.

Just kind of mysterious and thought I would inquire.

Hi,
I'm assuming that it is not Google. As it appears, someone uses the name "Google". Please check your browser to see if it is actually Google.
Please attach your log files here. You should find here:
"C: \ ProgramData \ AVAST Software \ Avast \ log \ Avast Browser Cleanup.log" and
"C: \ ProgramData \ AVAST Software \ Avast \ log \ Avast Browser Cleanup-silent.log"

I don't have a log folder.  Do I need to turn debugging on?

There must be a log folder without it avast would be somewhat messed up, avast writes a lot to that location and I would have thought that if it wasn't present that it would be displaying errors.

C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log
Unfortunately I don't use the Browser Cleanup function, so those files aren't present in my 'log' folder.
