First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)..!!
-> https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB11#artTitle

Then:
1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions..!!)
3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

Windows XP SP3 Terminal Services would not start - I managed to fix it by changing  The Terminal Service ImagePath in the Registry Editor to :
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TermService]
ImagePath REG_EXPAND_SZ %SystemRoot%\System32\svchost -k DComLaunch

It was originally set to -k netsvcs
UI is now loading OK.

I have this exact same issue on TWO different Windows 10 Pro systems. So much so I have removed AVAST on both for the moment bexause I cannot get it to work.

I have tried both AVAST Free and my AVAST INTERNET SECURITY .. I get the same issue as OP for both.

Believe me .. I have tried all the usual fixes like avclear etc etc, no joy.

Any ideas ... As ye know TERMINAL SERVICES is not part of Win 10. DCOM SERVER PROCESS LAUNCHER is, and thats enabled, automatic

Im wondering is it another service possibly disabled that AVAST needs? Any thoughts on that? What services need to be on?

NONE .. I even disabled Windows own AV via GPEDIT just to see if that was the issue.

Sorry but I've never run into an install on Windows 10 were there was a problem installing Avast
unless there was a conflict with another program.
I suggest you follow the directions outlined here:

Some feedback information which may or may not help:

XP SP3. Latest Avast free version.

When I booted up today there was no problem. Avast worked fine.

I got an on-screen message from IObit Driver booster 4.4 saying something about wanna-cry. I wasn't concerned because I had already read that Avast and most other antivirus software were now protecting against that ransomware. The message offered to check for Windows updates and Firewall problems. I checked them manually and saw no problems but I figured it wouldn't hurt to let the IObit software run a check. It did find and install a Microsoft Windows patch. This is strange for XP. I normally only get MS Office 2007 patches. When I rebooted Avast didn't work and I got the Avast on-screen message posted in this thread. I did a System Restore which removed the new MS patch. Avast worked properly as normal.

Hopefully this helps.
