I have just installed avast and have been prompted to run it in real time. However when I try to do that the page says "fixing" but stays like that for hours.  I have a few days left of a paid McAfee service, and it is still running.  Should I try again when that expires, or what? I am concerned about having no real time protection for any time period. Grateful for advice.

This is off-topic, so should be in its own new topic - however, you can't have two resident (on-access) antivirus programs running at the same time.  You need to commit to one.  Even at the end of the McAfee service it would need to be uninstalled, before installing avast or they would fight like two dogs over one bone.

If this isn't enough for you to proceed, then please start a new topic.

I can access my members area on one of the products I purchased. Avast keeps aborting connection for phishing.

Re: Accessibility issues: renewal Ad Pop-ups with no exit
« Reply #33 on: September 15, 2021, 02:48:41 PM »
Recently, I have been getting pop-up messages from Avast asking me to renew my subscription. Not such a bad thing, although they are annoying. However, what is extremely frustrating  is that these pop-up do not have a way to dismiss the ad except by finding its icon on the task bar and closing it from there. I am pretty sure this lack of a "close" button on the ad itself is an accessibility issue - no x, no window closing link ("No thanks", or "Not right now") and moreover there is no way to specify - "do not show this ad again" so it keeps coming back day after day. If it is not an accessibility issue, it certainly is a nuisance bit of spam and not appreciated - to the degree that I am considering not renewing my subscription again. Please ensure that if you pop up any notifications in future, they have a way to be closed from the pop-up itself.

Hello,
This is not an accessibility issue. By accessibility issues it is usually considered the usability of a program with a screen reader, bad colours, contrast related problems.

Yes it is an accessibility issue - please check with worldwide web standards for accessibility issues related to modal windows. In general modal windows should always have a keyboard accessible and obvious/visible way to dismiss the window. These annoying pop-ups do not.

I definitely know what accessibility issues mean as I'm a blind individual myself. And as for the popups thing, just press alt+f4 and deal with it.

Had you read the first post you would have found the context of accessibility in this topic.

Please report any accessibility issues with our antivirus products in this thread.
By accessibility issues we mean issues related to readers (for example: JAWS, NVDA) bad colors, poor contrast, DPI issues etc..

Hi since 1-10-2021 Avast Free Antivirus started blocking some sites due to security certificate issue experied. It blocked www.adendorff.co.za WHICH SHOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM.

If I look at the security certificate it is valid/ok and not over expiary date.

I too (since the Avast upgrade) have been experiencing accessibility issues in that hyperlinks in Outlook 2010 no longer work and I am denied access with the following error message "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer.  Please contact your system administrator".  This does not happen in Thunderbird and Microsoft say it is Avast restrictions.  Indeed uninstalling AVAST completely removed the restriction ... and reinstalling it results in a block again.

It is clearly unacceptable to have to uninstall avast every 5 minutes, click a link, then reinstall it only to again remove it 5 minutes later.

Please advise the fix

This isn't an accessibility issue as per the first post and as such off-topic.

And give more details, a screenshot of the error might also help.
