A new toy has been added to our front yard.  This windmill is fascinating to watch.
Unfortunately the camera seems to make it look like it's standing still when it's actually
spinning at a great speed while it tracks the wind.
Right now we have a wind speed of 20 MPH with gusts to 45 MPH
The windmill stands 7 ft tall and is securely anchored in cement.
I'm trying to figure out how I can adapt this toy to perform some useful task. ( Any suggestions ? )
As you can see, our Yucca is again blooming.

( I know this post is a little off-topic and can understand it's removal  :'( )

Any oil or water underneath you that you could pump out?

Hi bob3160,

You can also turn it into a corn mill, and bake your own bread.

Along the line of some other suggestions, you could sink a shallow well beside it, use the windmill to turn a pump, and use this to supply water to an in-ground sprinkler system.    ;)

(This may not supply enough water pressure for the traditional type of sprinkler heads but you could place "soaker" hoses about 2 or 3 inches underground in a pattern to supply some water to your lawn, shrubs, garden plants, etc.)

Hi Charley,
That would be great unfortunately we are located on a Mesa and digging a well usually requires digging down 250 to 300 feet.
A little more exercise than this old man can handle.  ;D

Sorry, Bob ... didn't realize y'all lived on top of a mesa. So, the other idea would be to use it to power those low voltage yard, garden, or path lights. A storage battery could be used for (what else ... lol) storing electricity when the lights are not in use. And, of course, you would need a small generator which would be turned by the windmill.

(Well, you may have solar powered lights of this type as I do, but if not, then the above idea could be of benefit.)    ;)

(For those of you who are not accustomed to southern US talk, y'all is a contracted form of "you all" which means all of you and in this case is Bob and Alice. Just a little FYI ... lol)

Hi Dan,

My lucky number is 8, so I have to wait until 08-08-08, what's another year?
You see this from the positive side, but for the pessimistic of heart, seven is a hatch number, so the meaning then reads "hatch hatch hatch".
