A new toy has been added to our front yard.  This windmill is fascinating to watch.
Unfortunately the camera seems to make it look like it's standing still when it's actually
spinning at a great speed while it tracks the wind.
Right now we have a wind speed of 20 MPH with gusts to 45 MPH
The windmill stands 7 ft tall and is securely anchored in cement.
I'm trying to figure out how I can adapt this toy to perform some useful task. ( Any suggestions ? )
As you can see, our Yucca is again blooming.

( I know this post is a little off-topic and can understand it's removal  :'( )

Any oil or water underneath you that you could pump out?

Hi bob3160,

You can also turn it into a corn mill, and bake your own bread.

Along the line of some other suggestions, you could sink a shallow well beside it, use the windmill to turn a pump, and use this to supply water to an in-ground sprinkler system.    ;)

(This may not supply enough water pressure for the traditional type of sprinkler heads but you could place "soaker" hoses about 2 or 3 inches underground in a pattern to supply some water to your lawn, shrubs, garden plants, etc.)

Hi Charley,
That would be great unfortunately we are located on a Mesa and digging a well usually requires digging down 250 to 300 feet.
A little more exercise than this old man can handle.  ;D

Sorry, Bob ... didn't realize y'all lived on top of a mesa. So, the other idea would be to use it to power those low voltage yard, garden, or path lights. A storage battery could be used for (what else ... lol) storing electricity when the lights are not in use. And, of course, you would need a small generator which would be turned by the windmill.

(Well, you may have solar powered lights of this type as I do, but if not, then the above idea could be of benefit.)    ;)

(For those of you who are not accustomed to southern US talk, y'all is a contracted form of "you all" which means all of you and in this case is Bob and Alice. Just a little FYI ... lol)

The following site has an interesting timeline of what would become of our planet
starting from 50,000 years to 7 billion years from now.

The Computer-Which is it ??? ::) Reasons to believe computers are female:
No one but the Creator understands their internal logic.
The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else.
The message "Bad command or file name" is about as informative as, "If you don't know why I'm mad at you, then I'm certainly not going to tell you".
Even your smallest mistakes are stored in long-term memory for later retrieval.
Picky, picky, picky.
They hear what you say, but not what you mean.
Beauty is only shell deep.
When you ask what's wrong, they say "nothing"
Can produce incorrect results with alarming speed.
Always turning simple statements into big productions.
Smalltalk is important.
You do the same thing for years, and suddenly it's wrong.
They make you take the garbage out.
Miss a period and they go wild!!!
As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.

However, another group of computer scientists (all female) think that computers should be referred to as if they were male. Their reasons follow:
Reasons to believe computers are male:
They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they are the problem.
A better model is always just around the corner.
They look nice and shiny until you bring them home.
It is always necessary to have a backup.
As soon as you commit to one you realize that, if you had waited a little longer, you could have obtained a better model.
The best part of having either one is the games you can play.
In order to get their attention, you have to turn them on.
Big power surges knock them out for the rest of the night.
They'll do whatever you say if you push the right buttons.
They have a lot of data, but are still clueless.
Size does matter!

A Counting Fool
I've seen a lot of stupid thing on the Internet tubes, and this is probably in the top five: Watch me count to 1 million.
Story here: http://www.millioncount.com/
If he's successful, the minimum amount of time it will take him, he figures is five seconds per number, 16 hours per day for 90 days. Or in more simply put, it will take him all summer.
A UAB grad and computer programmer originally from Jemison, Harper, 31, has rigged up live cameras and microphones throughout his Birmingham apartment, in every room except the bathroom. The cameras will always be on, he says. Even at night, when he's counting sheep. He has a hand-held button he will push with each number to keep his place.
Right now, he's at 22,907. And yes, t-shirts are available

Are You A Computer Geek?
Step aside Bill Gates, Linus Torvalds, and Steve Jobs... because I am by far the Supreme Computer God! At least that was the outcome of the 'Are You a Computer Geek' quiz I took. According to the dictionary a geek is a technically oriented person, someone with limited social skills who likes to tinker with scientific or high-tech projects.
That's not me! I don't consider myself a geek and I am certainly not socially inept. Maybe I scored that high because I know a lot about computers or i guessed  ::) ???  I've had one or two or more for over 30 years now and I know how to program in Basic.
How about you? Are you a Computer Geek? http://www.nerdtests.com/ft_cg.php?imlic
