Happy 2016 :)
Another cold day here in New Mexico:

The only nice thing to report is that on Mon 1/4/2016 I'll be leaving for the warm weather in Florida.
Vacation is over and it's back to work. (If you want to call this work.):

I just added something new to my system.

Edimax EW-7822UAC Wireless AC1200 Dual-band USB 3.0 Adapter, Complies to Draft 802.11ac
I like my Dell Inspiron 17 5000 Series but the internal WiFi adapter is a pain. It constantly needs to be reset. It's also much slower.
It wa a great $30.00 investment.

That's unusual that a USB Wi-Fi adapter works better than a built in one.

If the built in one isn't using the latest WiFi version and it also isn't Dual Band adapter (which is also USB3) is quite likely to be better than the existing one.

Given that the existing one was causing issues, anything is likely to be better.

That's just showing potential speed. The USB one is ac capable so of course it has a higher potential. My Ethernet status shows 100mbps  (with no Ipv6 connectivity) but my actual internet speed is a max of 65 through my ISP and speed tests show me hitting that. I'd have to check what my laptop says for it's wireless connection but I bet it will say 72 even though it never receives higher than 35 in the speed tests.

Go to speedtest.net and test both adapters and see if the USB one is actually faster on your connection.

I don't have to do a speed test. The difference is obvious in everything I do on-line. :)

That's great but I was just saying that USB wireless adapters are usually slower than built in ones. USB wireless is really meant for systems that have no built in wireless and cannot have an internal wireless card added to them. An internal card on PCIe is always better if it's working correctly. Yours may have driver or antenna problems and that could likely be a Dell issue. Yours is not the usual case but if it fixes the problems for only $30, go for it.  :)
