A new Toy arrived yesterday:
Did you receive it as a gift? Can we expect the same gift? ;)

I was only looking at the specs for this yesterday (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nexus_7), looks very good, though a miniSD card slot would have been nice.

I have to agree with you. I bought the 16 Gig model.  I'm actually waiting for the 10.1 version to be released and then I'll have my set completed.

@Tech,
No, this wasn't a present. If you want yours, you'll have to give yourself this present. (That's what I did.  :D )

I was also looking at the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 as I'm not sure about the in between 7" screen size in use compared to the 10.1" screen size. I guess I will have to look and play with them in a store first.

Windows 8 a 'catastrophe' for gamers.

http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-18996377
I was just about to post about this. Here's another link about it.

http://www.zdnet.com/valve-windows-8-is-a-catastrophe-for-pcs-7000001634/

I think that, coming from such a massively popular gaming source, that this could be the final nail in the coffin for Win 8 as far as the gaming community is concerned.

Windows 8 belongs on older PCs like a fish needs a bicycle

Summary: Get real! It's bad enough that you're going to have to deal with Windows 8 on new PCs, why ask for misery on your old PC? ......... (more)

While I too agree with a lot said in the article, I know from reading the author's other things that he is a dedicated Microsoft and Windows basher and a die hard Linux proponent.  Take that into consideration. In my opinion, the most reliable reporter that site has is Ed Bott.

 ;D  Yes, this is true but he does make he point that so many others are realising Win8, is no way better than Win7 and is not for the average PC user.

I was chatting yesterday with a professor at a local university, he is head of the IT/ Computer Sciences courses and he reckons Win8 is *******  (insert lengthy colourful description , I can't print what he actually said) .

This really is what resonates for me:

Quote from: From - Windows 8 belongs on older PCs like a fish needs a bicycle
I've been working with Windows 8 in one version or another for months now and there is simply nothing about it that would make me recommend it over Windows 7 or XP for that matter.
<snip>
Here's the real point. Most people upgrade their operating system only when they get something better from it and there's nothing significantly better about Windows 8.

I have been saying this for a very long time (I know Bob I haven't used it), where is the killer feature/function that would make people/me upgrade and I'm still waiting to hear of that. The more I read the less I want to spend my money on it as I don't see the benefits for a desktop user.

I haven't been reading about it, I've been using it for almost a year.
I've already switched 2 laptops over to windows 8 and have no complaints and am planning to convert 2 desktops today.

You miss out or selectively quote, takes it out of context.

That is why I haven't updated this system From XP, Vista was a failure, Win7 better, but still no killer feature that I don't have and need in my existing OS.
