There is another animal making it's home at this waterfall.
If we have an Ornithologist in our group, I'd love to know what this is.

Ornithologists are for birds. You need a Herpetologist. Without looking anything up, I would say it looks like some kind of Iguana.

After some Google research, it greatly resembles the Mexican spiny tailed Iguana although it has obviously lost most of it's tail and is in the process of growing it back

The sizes described on the link measure from snout to vent ( Backside/Bum ) you then add the tail length which would double the size at least

Try the one I mentioned. They can grow to 4.6 feet long. They are also sold as pets and one could have escaped or been released.

Yes it says that the hatchlings are bright green and they gradually turn brown as they age and grow.
