Hi malware fighters,

MS announced to make it's security solution free: http://www.microsoft.com/Presspass/press/2008/nov08/11-18NoCostSecurityPR.mspx
Will this mean the average user will choose Morro over paid solutions like Symantec's and McAfee's, the two main players to-day?
Microsoft is a gigantic platform, and new and average users might be tempted to choose this solution, on the other hand a better solution than a very large number of unprotected computers that can be made part of a botnet and malware ridden will threat other users. What is your reaction to this news?

Well, at least the 100,000+ new computer users daily will have some kind of protection instead of none at all when they naively go on the internet.

Hi CharleyO,

FakeSecSen has been added to the Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT) since November last, and since that moment has been removed from nearly one million systems. The Netherlands hold second place in the ranking with a total of 28.724 systems. In the United States we find most victims, a number of well over half a million infected systems detected, so there is an enormous demand for the workings of morro, sad but true nonetheless,

My friend has installed Windows OneCare Safety scanner because she is a PC novice and seems to like it.

Windows Defender is a good second line of defense along with WinPatrol as they detect modifications to the HOSTS file that could be modified by malware.

I don't like the fact that Windows Defender must be set up to insure that it updates its definitions before a daily scan.

You've meant morons ;D

Does it detect the modifications done by SpyBot immunization as being clean, all the time, not a false positive? ???

But other users do... do you know anything about it?
I did not know that WD was scanning the HOSTS file...

Hi malware fighters,

Did you all know that morro will function as a honeynet for MS, so they can localize infections earlier?

I didn't know but I don't doubt it for a moment, I would be surprised if their previous tools such as windows defender, live one care, etc. didn't do the same.

I did not know that WD was scanning the HOSTS file...

I find that the Spybot S&D HOSTS file has many outdated entries and is not checked for currency like hpHosts and MVPS HOSTS files.

WD scans the HOSTS file in real time

By the way, hpHost is doing such a good job that the forum was hacked and had to be taken off line.
