If you decide on Trillian, Give their new Astra a try. I love it. :)

For example:
Pidgin

Always Official version of each messenger would more safe to use, but I vote for Pidgin for an alternative account which is supported by avast! too and also it covers all popular messenger accounts and update frequently to make it more secure and stable. it has so many plugins which make it more powerful.

I personally have been using Digsby for over a year now. Before that I was a Trillian user and had even paid for pro but whilst Trillian is stable I find it to cluttered and busy these days. Only problem with Digsby is that for some reason Avast does not support it in it's list of IM clients.

Oh and please pay no attention to the Chicken Littles who ran around saying Digsby is evil just because they read it on LifeHacker. Digsby stopped using that particular installer at the start of October last year.

Why use a product that isn't being checked by avast! when there are so many other reliable ones available that are ???
I personally like Trillion but there are many others.

Read about Digsby that is rated by a fellow UK expert as bad:
http://hosts-file.net/?s=digsby.com&x=35&y=8 <== EMD - sites engaged in malware distribution

Want to get it removed then register and request it be removed.
Please submit sites to be removed from hpHOSTS to this thread including the reason for removal

I don't think there is a safe messenger

I use Trillian

I stopped Digsby and Google Talk or Windows Live

I am waiting for a Facebook Messenger. Hope they develop one.  8)

All the talk of Digsby coming with malware was related to an installer they stopped using a couple of months ago. Yes the programs that came with the installer were bad but you had the option to decline their installation. If memory serves all the new installer errr installs is the ask toolbar and wants to set your homepage and search engine to Google.

As I write this the HpHosts site is not working so I don't even know what they are basing their information on. I have been using Digsby since 2008 on several machines running several anti virus and anti malware products. None of them have flagged Digsby at all.

@bob3160 - So because a program is not listed in Avast I should stop using it? That's a narrow attitude.
