Best Safe Messenger?
« on: August 24, 2009, 01:51:07 PM »
Im going to uninstall some Live Messenger that someone installed on this comp
cause its heavy and vulnerable for sure.

Im thinking of using one of this two for a start:

Windows Messenger 5.1 (12-08-2008)
MSN Messenger 7.0 (11-09-2007)

Tell me if theres another you like more that will have compatiblity with msn messenger too, or its pointless :P

Note: dont even mention Yahoo messenger cause that is major malware of all messenger i ever saw.

Otaku: Yeah... its heavy... but I don't know about it being vulnerable...

I could suggest aMSN.... its not as heavy...
or pidgin messenger... its like digsby... allows u to sign in several accounts at the same time...

PS according to WOT, digsby has a poor reputation...

They have an update of Windows Live Messenger here.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Chat/Instant-Messaging/MSN-Messenger-8.shtml

I use Windows Live Messenger with no problems, but your machine must be at least Windows XP.

"Windows Messenger is a proprietary instant messaging client by Microsoft that is included in the Windows XP operating system. Designed for use by corporate users as well as home users, it was originally created as a streamlined and integrated version of MSN Messenger. After its initial release in 2001, it was later upgraded in 2004, when it was made available for Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003.
Since then, development on Windows Messenger has stopped, with the exception of security updates. It has been superseded by Microsoft's similarly-named but separate and newer client, Windows Live Messenger"

Over and above this very good reason not to use it, Digsby isn't a supported IM so avast won't be scanning its content.

None at all.

But, I did use them in the past until I realized how they can be used to distribute malware.

I hate it when I check my Hotmail account and Windows Live Messenger (WLM) insists on starting but I have it set to not auto log me in.  ;)

I don't have anybody in my contacts lists that uses WLM.

I use Facebook now and only permit my Friends there  8)
MBAM and WinPatrol are amongst my Friends.
