Blocking of "Format..."
« on: November 25, 2004, 11:42:23 PM »
The blocker section of avast! can block "Format..."

But I can still right click a drive (even a harddisk) and choose format. Why isn't this blocked? Is there an easy way to block formatting of harddisks (to prevent huge accidents :-) ?

I'd stillike to be able to format floppy and memory card/sticks, but the "Format..." right-click menu for harddisk should be gone (or disabled). Same for "format.com" on harddisks...

Whilst I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the blocking action is to stop a malicious program/script/virus initiating the format command, etc. rather than a user initiated (right click, etc.) format request.

I once had all the blocking actions ticked and for any action that I didn't initiate, the warning box, to allow the action or deny the action popped-up, so much so that I un-ticked them. However user initiated actions only gave the usual Windows warnings, are you sure, etc.
