Avast 7 new browser plugins?
« on: February 10, 2012, 09:06:12 AM »
Using Avast 7 beta, I noticed there was now a browser plugins section.  Under plugins Settings,  I see two options

-Enable Webrep
- Enable Phishing filter

I installed the browser plugins, and it looks like the save old Avast Webrep plugin from.  Does it really have the "phishing filter"?  I thought the phishing filter would be  in the Web Shield component not the browser plugin.

I also installed the plugin in Chrome, but there is no new extension or plugins in Chrome's extensions menu or the about:plugins menu.

I am asking b/c I usually don't use the Webrep plugin, but I want to able to have the "phishiing filter" so if it is necessary I will keep the plugin, but I would prefer not to b/c I already have a webrep like addon.

Known issues
- In some cases, WebRep Chrome plugin is not installed correctly.

The issues are known to the avast team and u have to be patient until its fixed.

it definitely works in Chrome ... I don't use web rep but an express install installed it in all my browsers ... until I found out and uninstalled. Anyway look at your upper toolbar in Chrome, and see if the web rep button is somewhere hidden under a collapsed drop down menu. You won't find any options about it in Chrome anyway. No idea if the phishing filter is effective, I just had a reputation FP on Google sites, this should be fixed now.

So is the "Enable Phising Filter" a new feature that only comes from the Webrep plugin and we have to have Webrep plugin to have the "Enable Phishing filter"?  Or is the Avast 7 Webrep addon the same addon that was found in Avast 6?  Need concrete answers or if you have post from or faq from the developers it will very helpful

Well the anti phishing technology is integrated within web rep...and hence the anti phishing function is located in the same tab where web rep setting is located.

Thanks for the info true indian.  I have decided to install it.  I usually want to keep my browsers as light as possible with addons and plugins.  Also I found in my opinion webrep in Avast 6 was remarkably inferior to My Wot addon, so i never used it.

However, the antiphishing technology has just pushed it over the edge and I have decided to install it.

I also can't get WebRep to install on Chrome.
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing but no luck.

According to avast!7, it's installed but not listed in chrome and not available.

It worked in the pr-beta but not in the new release.

Trying to install it through the Developer Mode in Chrome brings up the following error:

okay at the contrary of what I said yesterday, web rep doesn't work in Chrome. I didn't check again because 1st I don't use it, and second when I tested it last time it worked, but that was on the pre-beta of V7. So there's a regression.
