Google Chrome is a must install when installing AIS 7?
« on: February 13, 2012, 10:58:57 PM »
I know version 6 allowed you to opt out but I find no option to opt out during the install in AIS 7.0.1396? AIS 6 as far as I know used a portable version of Google Chrome. Can I uninstall the full version of Chrome without loosing functionality in AIS? BTW if the full version is a forced install I will switch to another security program as I f'ing hate chrome with a passion!

Installed using a custom install. There was no mention in the setup to opt out of installing Chrome.

AFAIK, compatible installation is not yet fully ready in 7.0.1396 (beta).

The normal installation method has 2 checkboxes to opt-out chrome.

I'm sure it won't force you to install Chrome in the final release version. It's probably just a bug in the beta. At least I hope so.

You're correct. I misread the "custom" install with the "compatible" install. My apologies. :-[

Well, I have used the "Custom Install" 3 times now and the choices for Chrome were most definitely there and used, no Chrome here.

A custom install definately ask's if you want chrome installed and used as your default browser ( two boxes are pre ticked ) so it pays to read closely when installing anything.

The installer is different with this beta so you might have just skipped through it without realising.

After seeing several peoples replies I uninstalled AIS 7 beta and Chrome. Sure enough the opt out option is on the very first screen of the installer. I must have been a sleep at the wheel? I do hate installers that by default install programs unrelated to the program being installed. This is usually the case with freeware programs where the developer gets paid by installing some third party program. Since this is not the case as I installed AIS 7 beta as a paid program using my paid license I should not be bothered. Worst case the option should be in the installer custom install options not the first splash screen. It should be an opt in not an opt out option besides. Now Avast Free, I'd have no problem having the default set to opt in but the opt out should be listed in the custom install option not the first splash screen.

My 2 cents

Can't argue with that Bill, I don't think there should be anything but avast in the paid installs either.

You're missing the point. They are delivering Chrome as a mean of secure browsing along with additional funds. That's why it comes in all versions because security wise it's as essential as WebRep or SafeZone. Or any other fature.

No,sorry I think you are missing the point. Google Chrome is totally unwelcome here, I wouldn't have that garbage on any machine of mine and if I wanted it or any other browser I would download it. I am paying for a premium product and do not expect to get other garbage foisted on me.

It is most certainly NOT essential any more than WebRep or SafeZone are. The very fact that SafeZone runs on Chrome is reason enough not to use it.
