Just been catching up on this topic again.

I noticed this using the Ctrl+Shift T - I don't know if this is available on Chrome, but a middle click on the tab bar in firefox will restore the last tab closed. Not only that if you middle click on the tab bar again it opens the tab closed before that. I did this to recover the last three closed tabs, I didn't continue beyond that but it can go for more.

I think that is a little easier/quicker than a three finger shuffle - Ctrl+Shift T.
