Update Problem AGAIN!!!
« on: March 02, 2012, 01:09:19 PM »
Morning,

Guys (as in Avast developers) this is getting very old!!

This morning I was doing my usual program updating and Avast hung up again, just like it did when it had the problems earlier this week. After just sitting with the "Program Update" bar stopped at less than 25% done I hit "Cancel". Now when I attempt to update Avast it doesn't even try to connect to the web and turning on "Auto Update" Avast says it it was unsuccessful at updating definitions.

I'm betting I'm going to get the standard reply,"Uninstall and do a clean install" but this is getting very very old!! I work in a policy shop so I'm literately joined at the hip to this machine and so can't be spending more time making it and the software work than actually using it ti do my job.

Thanks for listening and I hope there's a competent and final fix for all these problems.

Gene

sorry if I use this topic to explain my situation, just to not open another topic. I have problems with the streaming update AGAIN...the status is enabled and connected, but I don't receive any streaming update, there is no date for the last update, only this: ---

Hi,

I can confirm that there seems to be a problem again. Several users in our forums are complaining about the manual update stucks at the initialization.

For me its working with the R2 Beta release.
Feel welcome to also visit the German Avast Community Forums for support and discussions with other security specialists as well as beginners!

Same with me. Clean installed installed Avast 7 today on Win XP/SP3  and manual update is stuck on initializing and won't complete.
Running the fix update tool has no effect (says it doesn't need to be run).
Earlier on was having update problems with the 6 version updating as well.
Hope this can be sorted out soon.
Thanks.
Also my system seems to be reduced to a crawl (folders open slowly) with Avast 7 on it, as it was when I tried it a few days ago...

If the fix tool http://public.avast.com/supp/FixUpdate.exe has no effect then i suggest upgrading to the R2 7.0.1412 http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=94790.0 installed over the top should be fine but you may have to re register or copy paste your previous license key from email.

Thanks,
I may try that or go back to 6 (if I can get 7 off my system).

I wouldn't bother going back to 6, if your not able to uninstall the 7 version you have now there is the removal tool which needs to be run in safe mode if your wanting a clean install.
Installing the R2 straight over the top would be much easyer.

I also have this problem again.
(Never seen any red warning messages though)

I clicked to update avast 7 today
It stopped at
Step 1 / 3
File Downloaded: part-setup_ais-57f.vpx

So I clicked cancel, and clicked to update again,
From then on it always hangs at intialization.

I tried the downloaded fix from a few days ago, it said I don't have the issue, I restarted the computer, it is still no better.

I would prefer not to use a beta version.

Is there another way to fix this on the way?
Where do these problem update files come from, is it an error or an attack?
Is the computer at risk?

The R2 isnt really beta, it's the second release of version 7 but was put in the beta section for testing and it does seem to be much better that the earlyer version.

Hello I am new to the forums.  i am having this update issue also.  It started last night and would not update.  I just ran the fixit tool listed here in post 4 but, now I am getting a new error under the program update.  The update starts and runs for about 10 seconds and then it stops and I get the following message"Last encountered error: The package is broken.  Total time 27s"  What should I do?

How long will it be in testing before there be an official release version of R2 ?
Is anyone working on an alternative fix for this new update problem?
Is it safe to use the computer, is it protected, is it at any more risk of attack than usual?
