It is an IE wrapper, different user interface, easier access to many of the IE settings, but it is still IE beneath the skin. I used it a long tome ago but abandoned it when I started using firefox.

i must correct this, Maxthon 3 is using Webkit Layout Engine (same as Chrome for example) not Gecko (Firefox)
and then also IE engine (then one your OS has, so IE8/9/10)
Maxthon 3 seems to be improving (hard to tell if it's on the usability of MyIE2/Maxthon), Maxthon 2 was really bad step

what makes me worry is that this is completely closed project, Chine origin (i know paranoia is bad but one must worry)
and many of the community members who had influence on the project in early years (MyIE2/Maxthon) were cut off
i was involved myself but after some bad events i ceased to be ... and lost completely track&touch with what, who, why ...

new version of McShield

Is it compatible with Avast and USB Disk Security? Is it worth installing at all? Did you try it?
May the FOSS be with you!

Thank you Pondus for feedback. :)

Yes, MCShield is light softwere and complitly compatible with any AntiVirus/AntiMalware Tool.

It was created in MyCity Labolatory as a need for protections and removing any malware from a portable USB devices efficient and easy.
And if I may say so, others softwere withs same purpose are totally unnecessary if you install MCShield.

Quote from beta helpfile:
Quote
MCShield is an antimalware tool designed to prevent infections transmitted via removable
drives (USB flash drives, memory cards (cameras, phones, GPS devices…), external hard
drives)

The MCShield automatically cleans Memory card, autorun.inf trigger, autorun.inf, Desktop.ini, Windows Shell (LNK / PIF file)...etc.
It has an option to automatically back the hidden folders

It is fully compatible with Avast

This is example contaminated logs from one USB drives after treatment MCShieldom:

Code: [Select]
24.12.2010 17:41:32 > Scanning drive H: (NIKOOLA ~4 GB, FAT32 flash drive )...

> H:\RECYCLER

=> Malicious folders : 1/1 deleted.
=> Suspicious files  : 1/1 renamed.

Code: [Select]

Stuxnet / Rootkit.TmpHider installer

To me, USB Disk Security is totally useless if you install MCShield.

Any additional questions and answers can be read here.

In some minutes/hours we'll also see

Too slow many have already got it, so I have it on both my systems and have just done the monthly Microsoft patch Tuesday and no issues so far.

I don't get paranoid about security reports, using firefox with NoScript and RequestPolicy add-ons, life's too short to worry about this. Just have a robust backup and recovery strategy (hard disk imaging) in place.
