You can find:

We are planning an external beta testing in United States and would be very happy if you’d be willing to participate - more information on this to come here in June by Will Butler, the Avast Omni Product Director.

Thanks Martin.
I love the video on this new product, https://youtu.be/1UJFnSlC9WY (https://youtu.be/1UJFnSlC9WY)
Is Avast OMNI the new name (replacement) for Avast Smart Home Security?
I am certainly interested in testing and promoting this new Avast security enhancement.

Very interesting. Excellent approach. :)
Have been concerned about Smart Home products and their inherent Security Risk!

I'm afraid that we don't yet have any plans to provide devices to Avast partners.

Understood BWhit and thank you for your honest reply, I'm looking forward to getting Avast Omni soon and is a great idea to protect the whole family.

Look like good, but I work remotely and often need to connect to a working VPN. Will Avast Omni work in RSA-1024 networks?
Title: Re: Avast Omni is here!
Post by: BWhit on June 10, 2019, 02:43:55 PM
Hi George,

Avast Omni will not cause any compatibility issues which might prevent you from connecting to a VPN. However, Avast Omni will not "work" with RSA-1024 networks in the sense that it will not be able to scan your encrypted communications with the RSA-1024 network.

Avast just announced " New beta version 19.8.2390 (build 19.8.4746) is released."
When will Omni be updated since it's a beta version?

same, you should be able to update within the app.

Hi,
same, you should be able to update within the app.
I've done that without any luck. I'm told the program is up to date.

I just noticed that Omni is no longer marked a Beta.
As such, doesn't have any further update. :)

Why disappointing?

Nothing I've reported has been fixed. What's the point of beta testing if the tester's input isn't addressed? Was this really a beta test, or just a stress test? (Adding users with the express purpose of evaluating their cloud performance, not so much looking for any input from their testing pool...)

Omni negatively affects my network. I was willing to put up with it in the interests of beta testing to improve the product, but if this is considered expected behavior by Avast, as far as I'm concerned, the Omni is just a shiny paperweight.

It's crashed my OS more than any software I've tested. Software crashes are quite common in beta testing, but In my experience, crashing the OS is rare, because usually the alpha stage has dealt with the OS crashes.

I've participated in countless alpha and beta tests on various software and products over the years. I've been a mod on the Comodo forums for years, and the mods always test alpha/beta builds. I've even had software developers send me expensive third-party hardware to test new versions of their software for this new hardware because I gave them good beta feedback. And I have to say that this has been the most bizarre 'beta test' that I've ever participated in...

I'm sorry that this reads a bit like a humble brag, because that isn't my intention. I'm not saying that I'm a fantastic beta tester, or even the most knowledgeable. I just seem to have a knack of doing things the developer never intended. I think I know just enough to be dangerous.  ;D

I am very interested in the omni.
I have downloaded the client and checked my network.
It says my network is incompatible.
However i heard that I may be able to "manually setup" the hub?

I have a netgear n600 dual band ADSL router.
Can you tell me if this router is compatible?
If so how do I order the onmi hub?
I was told the cost is $99.00 per year, does this include the cost of the hub, or is the hub supplied as part of the subscription?

Thank you
Mike

How about a non compliance list?

No to both. That's what the first part of the setup does. It checks to see if your router is compatible

I don't think that is such a bargain (even if I was in a position to get it).   I guess I'm not in avasts demographic as a potential customer.

The Avast web site (Omni page), certainly doesn't make it clear exactly what it does and how it does it and it is likely to be short lived bargain come renewal time.   Even at the bargain price you really would have to have lots of devices and users to protect to make it worth while.

Whilst spying on your kids might be helpful for some (given the current climate, possibly not).

There's only Alice and I at home but there are lots of toys that are no being watched to make sure they behave. :)

does the Omni have a gig ethernet port?

Hello,

I am interested in Avast Omni but finding a lack of info on how it actually works.  Some questions please:

1) I am in the UK... is it available here or when is it expected?
2) How does the Omni hardware work?  Do my devices connect to the Avast router then onto my own router and then the internet?  Or do my devices connect to my router then the omni then the internet?
3) I don't use wifi.  So will my ethernet devices be able to connect to the Avast router?
4) What sort of hardware ports does the Avast router have?  What are the speed of any ethernet ports?
5) Can I run a VPN through the Avast router or does the Avast router work like an encrypted VPN connection?

I look forward to the information.

I am very interested in the Omni product. I have had problems getting info and I hope you can help. I am in the USA. I have had Avast free for years. I got an upgrade offer on the Avast screen showing Omni for $49.99. I downloaded the router compatibility test, installed the software and after confirming that my router worked, attempted to order the Omni device. Suddenly the order price was $99.99? I attempted to call customer support at 2 different numbers and alas, no one knew anything about Omni. They submitted a request to the Omni support dept and I received an email a week later which was not at all about my questions.

Is the Omni out of beta testing?, is the 49.99 offer valid, and what is the ongoing Omni annual subscription rate $99, or $119 for the Ultimate multi user, or something different? Also I am surprised that there is so little info on the web, no reviews, discussions etc.

I am ready to order if I can clarify these details, and I welcome all responses.

Hi newtone, sorry for the inconvenience caused. Omni is out of beta testing, the actual price always depends on running campaign, etc. I don't wanna make any statement about the annual subscription rate, because we do not know exactly how much it will be. Thanks

Hi everyone, I got the Omni for the advertised price of $49.99. It has been received, installed and set up. The setup was easy and complete. I still need to download the Omni app to my kindle devices but it is not listed in the amazon app store, and doesn't show up as needed in the Omni desktop program. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks, Bob

There is currently not an app for kindle, so it will not be protected when out of home. It will be protected however, when connected to the Omni hub at home.
