Hi all,
it's my pleasure to announce the general availability of a new official build of avast, version 6.0.1203.
Here's the list of most important changes:
- improved compatibility with Windows Vista SP0/SP1 (activation issues)
- attempt to solve the "Windows Media Player using a red skin" problem
- Firewall: solved the compatibility problem with uTorrent
- improved load time of WebRep IE plugin
- fixed a bug in Google Chrome WebRep plugin causing excessive CPU usage
- improvements in the silent installer
- improved the CommunityIQ sample submission process
- improved detection/removal of the most stubborn rootkits (TDL family)
- various stability and compatibility improvements in the sandbox module
- added new CreditAlert feature (US customers only)
- added Thai and Serbian language packs
You can use the built-in product updater or download links on our main website.
Of course, thanks to all the beta testers for their hard word.
Thanks

Hi, I unfortunately see same 100% CPU utilisation problem, mentioned to be resolved in version 6.0. It is not!
I removed now behaviour shield, as was recommended, now need to restart to see if it helps. If not -- I'll have to remove othervise nice Avast. I have W7 SP1 Ultimate 64-bit, with i7 CPU 6GB RAM.

That was one of the areas which I believe was addressed, but you would have to check it out if you weren't involved in the beta release prior to this update.
Memory usage is broadly the same as 6.0.1125 (and the beta builds) on my systems, they were never high.

Thanks Vlk

Funny. Is your system clock set correctly?
Also, you may try doing a repair of the avast installation...

Vlk, have you found anything about the issue with 1198 BETA build and Raxco PerfectDisk 12 Pro that i had on WinXP SP3 ?
1. we were not able to reproduce the slowdowns (but we tested with build 1203, which, compared to 1198, had one thing that could have potentially caused the slowdowns solved).
2. we were able to reproduce the inability of scheduling the boot-time degrags. But the same applies to all other previous versions of AIS, so didn't consider it as a blocker. We may look into it in the future updates though.
Thanks
Vlk
-
@Vlk
This only happens when it updates automatically. Then I do a manual update again and say that everything is updated and "green."
Then update the AIS and start all over again ... The funny thing is that he always says the same database: 110616-1.
Avast has already done the repair several, does not. The "error" remains.
I'll wait until later, when you have new update, to see if it resolves.
Another thing: Is there a program that permanently remove Avast? I used the "aswclear" and it seems that leaves traces ...

No traces if you follow the correct instructions, running the "clear complete uninstall" tool from Windows Safe Mode.

Interesting. I got it reproducable each and every time. Boot time defrags didn't work as well, however it worked fine with the last stable version. Have removed PerfectDisk for now...
Updated 3 platforms with latest version and all working fine so far.

Works good but silent install still give error:
failed to language dll [1033/UilangRes.dll]
Windows XP SP3 Spanish
-
Updated avast! Free from the previous beta, everything is okay! :)
Windows 7 32 bit
-
Updated through GUI, everything worked as advertised. No problems what so ever.
"CreditAlert" log was still available but not updated anymore. If you kill it it will not automatically be recreated!
I guess after a "clean" install it will be not available anymore from beginning - I did not try that so far!
Thanks avast! - good work!

Notice : The firewall log bug in french that return to english then french very fast this is not fixed yet...
Also on the main settings on where you see that auto-defense and others things you can see "Do not use Chrome as avast! default browser" is not translated to french...
When you want to install others languages on the panel the first "V" should be like this and i think you noticed there a "." so why you didnt put a big "V" ?
Another translation missing... Its in the sandbox for when you want to add a process there still "enter program name" that isnt yet not translated in french.....

I got a question what this chrome settings you did put what its mean ? I found nothing on the help about it... Is it for the Safe Zone ?
PS : I use avast! Internet Security 6.0 - French.

When I used to use PD, I stopped using it at PD11, I had a problem with scheduling boot-time defrags. I no longer have PD11 on my computer so this is going from memory.
Somewhere in the Setting, Preferences or anything that looks like a setup or utility option you will find some wording that indicates a repair needs to be made by PD. If you make the repair it should be able to do a boot-time defrag. At least this is how it worked for me when I used PD11. Hope this is helpful :)

Yes.. :D .. if you check this item, avast! is using your system default browser in Safe Zone.
If you uncheck it, avast! uses Chrome in Safe Zone.

Downladed Avast Free yesterday, and did the install, configuration. (From CNET downloads.)
Win XP, SP3, other anti-malware installed for doing the realtime web monitoring, so I configured to not use Avast for it, but other functions are used. Did the definitions and program updates from UI, no problems. The UI is very intuitive, which is why I picked Avast over other free products.
Did an overnight full scan. Quick, in that some overnight scans with other products are still at it next morning. A qualitative speed endorsement.
I presume from the update list's noting fixing issues with WebRep that it's new, and a work in progress.
I have chrome, Firefox and IE8 installed [for windows update primarily]. Besides chrome I have SRWare Iron and Comodo Dragon in the chromium family - all intended to be able to mix and match.
WebRep loaded fine and without any perceived slowdown, in Comodo Dragon, latest update of it. In Firefox 3.6, latest update, and Aurora channel, latest. All okay, no slowdown.
Two problems - feature design - others may agree or disagree.
First, the green popup has a bunch of icons at the bottom - what means what, where is it documented? It looked really "busy" to me. If I wanted to evaluate a site, and add it to the database, how?
Second, in a new release, could UI design people consider making the WebRep popup configurable (it could be a feature from the page where it can be activated for the three browser groups [chrome, IE, and Firefox - not Opera/Safari??])? I would like to see a toggle there where a user could choose hover/click/disable for the popup, in any browser. The three bar display in search return lists pretty much gives the community-safety rating info, while the popup if you move the mouse while reading the returns, is a big-time distraction in hover mode. It can even cover part of what is being read.
Generally, I think popups should be restrained. Others may feel differently.
Is it just me, or do others feel that a next release might look at adding such WebRep configurability? Especially if it could be implemented without sacrificing speed in the browser. Either that or base the functionality on a CLICK on the three bar item, rather than HOVER-to-pop as default?
-
Thanks for the update. Updated Windows Home XP SP3 through GUI and no problems so far. I can confirm that Windows Media player no longer suffers from the horrible red colour.
-
Nice feature i would never mind on this nice one.
I found others bugs too...
1. The delete button there are another one in the boot time scan settings its glitching in the end its look very weird...
2. IE WebRep Vote Tab there are "TS" word missing on telechargemen"here"... Firefox got it but no IE and you should see the reply i did on beta for more on the webrep...
3. Question... Is it normal that the tabs on the vote panel on IE and Firefox are looking very different... ?
4. Is it normal that in the file shield > actions > i see they are reduced in the tabs the actions but when i go to PUP i see they arent ? What the reason ?
5. I hope avast! do understand me and will fix these majors problems...

Hi everyone,
update went fine as usual.....no problem in my system. only one thing this version also don't trigger autosandbox for various crack and patch applications even though those crack/ patch are detected as malicious by about half the scanner of virus total. Can anybody explain if this the way avast work or avast autosandbox is not enough sensitive??
Thanks again.......
-
Update caused start-up failure, and avast was subsequently disabled by Windows (7, 32 bit) trouble-shoot. Avast now failing to restart.

Where low Avast FREE 6.0.1203?
Pass me the link please? If possible, link the server Avast.
I downloaded the version and came http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free.exe 6.0.1125

Mar. ::) Its should be in the website or you can update via your program.
-
@Mr.Agent
I can not upgrade the program. I have to find the program with this version. I'm trying to fix a problem with my Avast: he says that an old database (110616-1) is the current today. Not to mention that he also charges that the program is more current than 6.0.1125 6.0.1203.

No problem with the update, works fine on my XP PRO SP3 P3 T40 Laptop.

Still pending on those questions/bugs/glitchs that i said...
Wondering if someone will respond to me a day... :(

Does anyone know how to get Avast to start up again after being "Adrift at sea" and when the "Fix it" and "Start program" buttons do not work? Help would be greatly appreciated, as the update appear thus far appears to have killed Avast :(

Puran Free is what I use, and it works flawlessly with all versions of avast!. The boot time defrag not only defrags files that can not be defraged while running, but it also defrags your entire drive too. It is awesome, give it a try and pocket your hard earned $!
I use Smart Defrag it is also free and works for me. I will however take a look at Puran :)

You may have to do a complete uninstall and cleanup with the Avast removal tool. Then download and install the new version again.

Hi,
Is it normal that Do not use Chrome as Avast! default browser appears also in the settings of the free version on a system on which Chrome has never been installed?
Thanks in advance and sorry for my English,
T.
System Info:
Windows XP Pro SP3 (32bit)
Avast! Free AV 6.0.1203
This might not be quite normal but it is also in the FREE version!
In the FREE version it does not matter whether you have the little box checked or not or chrome installed or not, your system default browser remains in all cases the same. The box does not serve any function in the FREE version!
Do not mix up the AutoSandBox of the FREE version with Safe Zone of PRO/AIS versions.
-
Is the new Credit alert feature included in the Free version? If it isn't then why is the box in Avast settings to enable the alerts checked by default?
-
This might not be quite normal but it is also in the FREE version!
Thank you for your reply, jrace.
So I'm assuming that the option is normally present in the free version also when Chrome is not installed and that it was not an issue with my update.
Do not mix up the AutoSandBox of the FREE version with Safe Zone of PRO/AIS versions.
It wasn't my intention. I have never mentioned "Safe Zone" or "Autosandbox" in my original post/question.
I know this option is not related in any way with the browser of the Safe Zone. This is also the main reason why I asked about the presence of Do not use Chrome as Avast! default browser in a system where Chrome is not installed.
As far as I remember from the "beta thread", its only purpose is to let Avast! open links using Chrome or alternatively the default browser. No relations with Safe Zone at all.
Cheers,
T.

Sorry Mr. Agent I mixed something up:

Just updated myself, via the UI. While I'm not crazy about WebRep in its current format (i.e., showing only a site's popularity), I was happy to see that after rebooting Firefox automatically recognized (and reactivated) the updated plugin.
-
Just updated. Everything's good so far.
Thanks! :)
-
After this update, Outlook Express won't send/receive emails unless uncheck Avast's 'scan for incoming/outgoing messages' boxes. Makes no difference if firewall on or off.
-
Lets first find out why it isn't working in your other topic before we say it is related to this build as you said that for a time it worked.
Not quite sure how, but I fixed it. Removing and replacing Avastsvc.exe didn't work but then I removed "avast!antivirus" from the firewall list. Several avast things were listed in the Avast folder and I didn't know which to add so I added 'avastUI.' I don't know what that is, but the avast!antivirus' then reappeared in the firewall list and now can send and receive email with both incoming/outgoing mail checked... I wouldn't have known its a firewall issue and to look there... thanks.

I've tried repairing through "Uninstall programs" and that does not work.
Try deinstalling the features that not work and then reinstall it. That works for me.

A new visual bug in Avast GUI is discovered. To reproduce it, make the following steps:
1) Open the Avast main window and go to the tab with types of scans (screenshot 1)
2) Expand the field with scan from Windows Explorer ... AND DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING IN THE WINDOW (screenshot 2)
3) Close the window
4) Re-open the window: the scrolling bar disappeared and the Quick scan field is hidden under the tab's title (screenshot 3)
5) Expand any other field and the scrolling bar returns (screenshot 4)
This bug was noticed by Russian-speaking users in Avast Free and AIS on Vista and Windows 7.

A new visual bug in Avast GUI is discovered. To reproduce it, make the following steps:
I could not reproduce this kind of behaviour on my System.
Everthing works like it should work!
Now I tried it a few more times an found:
You have to meet some more presuppositions to reproduce the mentioned behaviour:
1. The main window must be adjusted to a vertical height so there is no scroll bar visible.
2. No item must be enlarged to "More Details".
If you now close the window now and follow the mentioned procedure the bug is reproducible also in the German version

Funny thing. I did a clean install on a fresh install of windows 7, I got a BSOD. But when I did an update from previous version (luckily I save the old version up, there was no BSOD on the same Windows 7.
Please fix it. I already uploaded my dump files to mediafire.

"Do not use Chrome as avast! default browser" is not translated to french...
It's also not translated in the German version. ;)
Neither in the Italian version - not a big deal though ; )

Same here.A CTM snapshot,only with CIS firewall installed,BSOD.Another snapshot,with SS free installed,BSOD.Then i tried a CLEAN snapshot,and while Avast! was installing,BSOD.
So,on the same clean snapshot,i downloaded from filehippo and installed the old version of Avast! 6.0.1125.Updated via program itself, and now everything is ok.Weird..

Thank you for your help!
No problem we are all interested in a perfect system.
Since I could not believe there is just a localised bug I continued with all kind of variations.
The reason I could not reproduce the behaviour during first tries was I allways have the vertical height of main GUI adjusted to minimum and also at least one line is already enlarged by the "More Details" button.
I hope avast! is gonna read it! ;D ;D ;D

Just like in versions 1184 and 1198 I'm getting BSOD with 1203 as well. This is on an HP laptop, 2.0 ghz dual-core, 4 gigs ram, Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit).Sorry but I had memory dump disabled in System>System Properties>Advanced>Startup and Recovery>System failure. When this BSOD occurs Avast doesn't even show up in Program and Features so as a result I have to re-image my PC to get it back to normal. If you wish I can re-image my PC once again and enable memory dump. Could you please tell me once again where the memory dump file will be located?
Thank you.

You don't have to restore your image just run the avast cleaning tool from safe mode: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility.

Hello
I'm having problems with my Avast. The AIS server returns always an old database (110616-1) as for the current day. The following files are downloaded:
part-vps_win32-11061601.vpx
vps_32-4f7.vpx
among others ...
Do you know why this is happening? Some of you could pass me the text of the SETUP (configuration parameters) located in the Avast? Maybe I'm replacing the data, solve ...
-
Could you please tell me once again where the memory dump file will be located?
\windows\memory.dmp
-
Also, who do I send this Windows 7 memory dump to?
Thanks.
Later...
Bob
-
Also, who do I send this Windows 7 memory dump to?
ftp.avast.com/incoming (ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming)
Sometimes there is a need for upload of a big file to us, for example memory dump of crashed program.
To do so open our FTP server ftp.avast.com/ and navigate to the /incoming folder. Please note that you have write-only rights in this directory, so you will not see any content nor your uploaded file. Because of this please select some unique filename, for example containing your e-mail address or your username from our support forum.
Please note, that this FTP is not automatically checked and you should upload here only files requested by AVAST Team.

Updating now... so far, so good. ;)

Hi,
Just updated avast! Internet Security over previous beta version. It's really awesome and improved performance of the Google Chrome on this official version.
AND I really really really really fell in love with latest avast! program update notification feature... I was awaiting for it from a long time ago and suggested several times to avast! Today when I saw it suddenly, I thought I was dreaming...
I Love avast! Mwaaaaaaaaaaaaahah.... :-*
Cheers...
-
Updated everything went smooth, congratulations to the developers and the beta testers for their hard work.
-
Just updated through the pop-up notice on Windows XP. Works great!
One question? Since I just updated over the previous version, I'm not going to get those credit check pop-up things that are like Life Lock, right? How do I turn them off? (Did not see them in the settings.) I am using Avast 6 Free. Or does that sign up offer come with new Avast installs only?

Does that include detection/removal of the notorious ("nearly indestructible" per Kaspersky) TDL-4?

I doubt they didn't add detection/removal for TDL-4. If they didn't, then when will they? Next program update? Don't think so :)

I have been using free Avast for a few years now. But after I have restore my CPU (Vista), like I do once a while, I suddenly start to get the error : 0xC004D401. I thaught it was the spybot antispyware. But after uninstalled the software, the error kept poping up still. Never had this problem before. Seems that the new Avast version is conflicting.
Anyway, this morning I have update with avast 6.0.1203. I will see how it goes. Otherwize I might just switch with an other anti-virus.

TDL4 also goes by the name Aluron and avast has that in its detections, it is often an MBR Rootkit and avast has a pretty effective tool to find and remove those (outside of windows) aswMBR.exe, but it isn't something that you should use without guidance.

Hello
Since the upgrade to version the Behavior Shield does not trace many incidents
It is run but before he recorded me 14 incidents when you start Windows, now just 1 secdrv.sys
This is normal or a malfunction.
I use Windows 7 Starter Edition
Thank you.
Hi everyone,
I have the exact same problem as describe above as well. The behavior shield only scan secdrv.sys after i upgrade to avast 6.0.1203. I am using window 7 ultimate 32 bit.
Can someone help??? Is this normal or something is wrong with avast???
-
I did the upgrade, but then I had problems with Raxco PerfectDisk version 8.0. I had to uninstall and use another defrag program. When this problem is corrected, I would like to re-install PerfectDisk.

4/16/2011 Microsoft Patch Disables TDL4 Rootkit on 64-Bit Windows
They also point that users of 32-bit Windows won't benefit from this update unless they install it manually, because TDL4 disables the Windows Update service on such systems.

I used PD for years up until V11.x then about three to six months ago I switched to "Smart Defrag" which is free and I love it. :) :)
I tried Puran a for a couple of days earlier this week and went back to Smart Defrag. I have never tried Auslogics free defragger which a lot of people really like.

Ah, yes indeed. Choices are a wonderful thing to have :)
I used Defraggler for a long time. I used it along with Perfect Disk.
When I wanted to do a quick Defrag of a hard drive then I used Defraggler otherwise I just let PD do its thing which starting in PD11 IMO it no longer did very well.
I kept Defraggler on my system when I switched over to Smart Defrag. After using Smart Defrag for a couple of months I uninstalled Defraggler and have found no reason to reinstall it. ???

Guys can we stay on topic, this defrag discussion has nothing to do with the latest release.
-
Guys can we stay on topic, this defrag discussion has nothing to do with the latest release.
I disagree.
An avast user posted this AM that they were having problems with avast! working with PD.
So I suggested that they try another defragger that I know works with avast! since the problem that the user was having hade nothing to do with the current release of avast! but PD given how old a version of PD the poster was using.
Then others chimed in recommending another solution to the problem, which is what happens most of the time on well posted threads. Then the pros and cons of which might be the best solution for the user's problem ensued. Again this happens a lot on well posted threads.
Then the hall monitor arrived and ............ :)
-
Since installing this version I have had problems with app windows loading (OS is XP). A number of smaller applications have the exe start up immediately as shown in Task Manager but the window does not appear for a very long time, minutes. If I have Avast disabled, one particular app window appears within 10 secs. With Avast enabled, I give up after a minute and disable Avast. Never had the issue with previous revs.

All of this could and should have gone on outside the topic:
Where the OP could report the fault and hopefully get help to resolve the problem for him and other users, without it being buried in here.
You could also have suggested the alternative in that topic as could have others without it getting way off topic as it did.
As for the hall monitor I rather think it is common sense so that the poster can get the best help and or alternatives.
But then you don't appear to be a common sense sort of person :P

About the defrag tools,
Searching the forum for "Raxco" and/or "PerfectDisk" and/or "Perfect Disk" ("any words"), and reading the topics could be a good idea.
The following are only PART of the results, with several different versions:
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=81125.0
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=81135.0
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=67097.0

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=57379.0
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=57611.0
Once the forum search is performed, and the topics are read, open a new one if necessary, about Avast 6.0.1203 and the relevant defrag tools with solutions, workarounds and alternatives.
I hope you can find a real solution.
Now I think we can go back to the main topic here.

Any reason not to update the release history of Avast with 6.0.1203?
Maybe a new stable is closely coming?

Clearly as usual we don't agree :)
Believe me if there is anyone guilty of having too much common sense it is me beyond a doubt :) :)
So I am now going to use common sense and end our O/T discussion which you initiated. ;)

Following up on my post a few back, I think you will find that PerfectDisk is starting up fine - check Task Manager or whatever. However, it takes for ever for the window to appear. I also have the issue with PD which I get round as previously described. Ditto with some other apps too.

Agree with Dave. This should be discussed elsewhere. (If necessary..!??)

Hi,
I installed this new program update the same day it came out.
Yesterday I saw a little issue when I opened the Win XP's disk cleanup utility.
After opening the utility and choosing which HD I want to clean up, the application lags for a couple of seconds or even more before it eventually starts calculating the amount of bytes to clear (and then asking for user's OK).
If I disable all the Avast! shields from the tray icon, the utility works normally without any lags.
As I said, I thinks this behaviour only started a couple of days ago (maybe yesterday) so I was wondering if it may be related to some recent virus definitions update...
System Info:
Windows XP Pro SP3 (32 bit)
Avast! Free AV 6.0.1203 (Behaviour Shield removed)
Online Armor Free 5.0.0.1097
*Security software mutually excluded
Cheers,
T.
P.S. I'm not sure if the English name of this OS utility is "disk cleanup utility", but I hope you understand what I mean - by the way sorry for my English.

Just updated to 6.0.1203 via avast's GUI. All seems well.
Someone above posted that OE (Outlook Express) on their XP box didn't work. I'm not having any problem with that. Make sure your firewall knows to allow the new version of avast permission to connect.
Thanks to the team at Avast! :)

The CreditAlert signup message upon installation is severely cutoff on a Acer Aspire One netbook with 10.1" screen. The form is so tall it gets cut off at the enter SSN field. The rest of the form below the SSN is completely hidden and there is no way to scroll it. All you can do is click the red X in the top right corner.
Not that I wanted to signup, I just wanted to report the GUI design problem.

Hi everyone,
First timer here (a good thing for you guys I guess)
First off, I wanna thank the Avast staff for this amazing security software. My Avast 6 has always run very smoothly and done an excellent job keeping my PC safe.
However, the latest free version 6.0.1203 caused my win XP to hang at system start so I had to remove it and install the previous version.
My PC runs on XP SP3 with Avast Free Antivirus + Comodo firewall and never had an issue until now.
Any tips, suggestions?
Thanks

Greetings,
How did you install version 6.0.123? Updating from the GUI or the pop-up? Or by removing it from scratch? If you are still having problems, and wish to upgrade to the newest version of the program, you might want to try the following:
1.) Uninstall the old version from Add/Remove Programs.
2.) Download a fresh version of Avast AV from www.avast.com
3.) Download the Avast Uninstall Utility, which can be found here: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
4.) Save the uninstall utility to your desktop or downloads folder. Do the same with the fresh download of Avast from the website.
5.) Boot into Safe Mode and run the uninstall utility.
6.) Follow the prompts and reboot.
7.) Now install the latest version of Avast found on the Desktop or downloads folder.
8.) Follow the prompts. Even if not asked to reboot, reboot again following the install when prompted, or about a minute or so after the demo version automatically updates.
9.) Following the reboot, wait for another minute or so, than open up the GUI, click on the Maintenance Tab, and fill out the form to get your license key. Click submit. If you ever need to reinstall the program, you MUST repeat the license key process.
That should take care of it. The new version is supposed to work very well with Comodo Firewall. Someone else, with Comodo Firewall, can show you how to allow the access ports to work with Avast, if you are still having problems after doing the above steps. But you should be fine after this.

I have to report one more bug in the Russian translation.
There is a mistake in one of the sentences in the pop-ups' section in Avast settings. Look at the screenshot below.

The latest Avast program update to 6.0.1203 makes Avast incompatible with PerfectDisk 11 and 12.
PDxx begins to load, but never finishes (several minutes). Disk access is continuous during this time, and everything grinds to a halt.
Only disabling Avast's real-time shields before running PDxx seems to help.
-
weppler, did you try disabling avast behavior shield to test?

Thanks for your help. I followed your instructions to the letter but unfortunately it didn't solve the problem. The new version still slows down my PC almost to a stop (I didn't put it accurately before). My windows taskbar becomes very unresponsive and the whole system seems to be stuttering even though CPU usage looks normal.

It seems that the BSOD that a lot of people experience is due to the new installer when doing a clean install. If one is upgrading from the GUI, there is not a problem.
I had the opportunity to test on another laptop with a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit with the installer for version 6.0.1203. It gives me a BSOD as well.

From the Avast Support Website
Blue Screens are caused by an error in some installed Windows driver. It can be either a program error or a hardware fault which the driver is unprepared to deal with. When the stop occurs, it is either presented as a "blue screen" message or the computer is automatically restarted.
During blue screen Windows creates a memory dump file, a snapshot of current memory status containing important information that may help us understand the cause of an error. Based on your configuration, it's either a small file (around 64KB) - a minidump - with the most important data, or larger file (with roughly the size of your installed memory) - a kernel memory dump or complete memory dump file.
Minidumps are created in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder, the file with a random name and a ".DMP" extension. Full memory dump is a file C:\Windows\Memory.DMP.
You can configure the options concerning the blue screens and the memory dump files creation in the System Properties Control Panel.
avast! antivirus contains several drivers. Although we test them carefully it is possibly there is a problem we are not yet aware of. If you believe your problem is caused by avast! you may send us the memory dump file for analysis. Minidumps are small enough to be sent by email (zipped and accompanied with a description of steps that cause the computer to stop). If you want to send us your complete memory dump, please use the public ftp server (at ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming (http://ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming)) to upload the file.
For more info about upload larger files please refer to: https://support.avast.com/index.php?languageid=1&group=eng&_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=18 (https://support.avast.com/index.php?languageid=1&group=eng&_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=18)

I see there is a problem with latest Perfectdisk (Raxco), as well as my old version.(Vers. 7)
I wonder what PD is doing that is causing this incompatibility ?
I experienced the problem and I did not have the behavior shield installed at all.
Disabling all the shields alleviated the problem.
For now, I have uninstalled Avast! completely and put in MSE until this issue is fixed.

I would like to say that I have perfectdisk pro version 12 install and I dont have any issue. What is the bug?
The only issue I have is if I install with avast 6.0.1203, I will get a BSOD. But if I upgrade from the previous version, there is no BSOD.

(I'm using Win XP) so I uninstalled it and reinstall back the ver 6.01 with my old installer and my Windows gets back to normal now. I will wait till the next ver. ~Hope can solve this problem :'(
Looks like I'm not alone in this...
Do you guys have Perfect Disk installed..??
No, I don't. And my PC runs on XP SP3 as I stated earlier. I've never used Perfect Disk and in fact I have no defrag software installed at all, though I do defrag my machine every now and then with portable Auslogics

Well, sorry then.
That's the only bug I know about on XP atm.

Hello Friends,
Which Avast versions are still supported? I updated to V.6 and it caused crashes on my computer. I was running 5.1.866 without problems before that. Somehow, one of the computer users in the household accidentally updated to V.6 again and crashes occurred again. I have since uninstalled Avast so I can use the computer and would like to know which Avast versions are still supported so I can successfully use the program again. Thanks!\
UPDATE:
Thank you all but I was able to find a resource for the version that works on my computer and life is good again. Thanks to the staff who put up with us cranky people who seek assistance. We mustn't forget the program is FREE and we use it at our own risk or satisfaction. I can't believe all of the mean-spirited posts I found while visiting this website but you have you my heartfelt thank you for what you do!!

I do NOT want to install the newest update UNTIL ALL bugs are found and removed. I use this computer to work from home as an independent contractor and it is critical that my computer always be operating well. I am not at liberty to be at the mercy of an update that hasn't had all bugs removed yet.
Avast has caused many issues in the past for me after previous program updates. I run XP Professional w/ SP3 - I had Vista removed from this computer when I purchased it and had XP Professional installed in it's place. Windows 7 was too big an OS (took up too much space) and I didn't want it on here.
How do I ensure that Avast does NOT automatically update the software? I have auto update on for virus definitions.
Please advise .. this is important.
Thank you so much! :-D
EDITED TO ADD:
NOTE: I just changed my Avast from "Ask when update is available" to "Manual update" - Will THIS ensure that the update is not downloaded and installed with virus definition updates (which are on automatic)?
What else do I need to do to ensure that I MANUALLY CHOOSE when to install this update?
thanks again!

Thank you so much Asyn! I really appreciate you confirming this for me. I will install once i see the major "debugging" has completed.

Hey there,
Sorry if I'm insisting but has anyone noticed the issue related to the Windows XP's Disk Cleanup utility I had reported here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=81028.msg664305#msg664305 (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=81028.msg664305#msg664305)

Ok, so there shouldn't be any problem then.

Hi,
I installed this new program update the same day it came out.
It's been so long since I used the utility that I forgot where to find it. I normally use CCleaner. When I did eventually find it and click on it I got the hourglass for about 5 seconds and then it opened and started to "compress old files". I remember that always took a while since I play games that have single files over 2gigs in size. I cancelled it and I really don't remember how long it used to take to start up.

Thanks so much for your reply, Dch48.
Immediately after opening the utility and choosing which HD I want to clean up, the application lags for more than a couple of seconds (no hourglass though) before it eventually starts calculating the amount of bytes to clear.
I can notice the difference if I disable all the Avast! shields from the tray icon: then everything works normally without any lags.
I've noticed the same behaviour also with my father's laptop (same software, different hardware)

Hi!
It's seems to me there are some conflict with FutureMark: 3D Mark 11 VGA Benchmark Utility application. I have to turn off Avast Shields (turn off Avast) because it's always blocking start the benchmark utility.
Yes, definetly there's some conflict with: FutureMark 3D Mark 11 v1.6.02
Please fix it!
Thanks!
When Avast Shields stopped for instance 10 minutes, etc... 3D Mark 11 working well, but if Avast Shields On it's almost every time blocking this app. (Start the Benchmark part of this program I mean!)

I just tried my Disk Cleanup utility on my XP box. It seems to operate the same for my as it did with the prior ver. of avast. It is slow, but not hanging as I can hear HDD activity.

Thanks Rick F.
Is it also the same if you temporary turn off Avast! before starting the utility?

Update to .1203 through the GUI has caused massive slowdown problems for me. Getting prolonged disk thrashing which renders everything onscreen unclickable for periods of about 30s, sometimes longer. Disabling the file system scanner speeds things up noticeably.
This is on an XP SP3 system, 2Gb RAM, dual Xeon 2.8Ghx Processors.
Is it possible to downgrade to the previous version temporarily?
Edit to add: I'm not running any disk management, defrag, or other AV software.
-
Takes the same time to do a Win disk cleanup whether AIS (latest version) is running or not on all our xp 3 PCs. So no problem here.
-
Is it possible to downgrade to the previous version temporarily?
You can allways go back to any previous release.
In that case you should do a clean install of whatever older version fits your system best.
If you did not keep the installer of the older version you will find it at least for the "free" version here:
http://www.filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/
Good Luck!
-
Looks normal here.
But what do I know? :)
-
Thanks again for all the replies to my issue with the Win XP's disk cleanup utility.
I've seen that behaviour on three different PC now, but at this point I have no idea about what may cause the 3-4 seconds delay.
Not a big deal, though.
All the shields have their heuristic levels set to "High" - maybe this is one of the factors involved... We'll see what happens.

Installed new .1203 version and everything was sweet & cool.. as usual :)
... until I noticed that the flash with Firefox & sandbox problem returned. I then realized that I had deleted the copy I had made in %APPDATA%\Roaming\Mozilla\Plugins folder because it was an older version of flash not realizing that this was a **patch** to fix the sandbox issue with FF.
I now created a symbolic link instead so I won't have to check versions between the real new flash folder and the temporary fix folder for Avast.
here's the link explaining the issue and the temporary fix..
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=65679.msg617892#msg617892
I'm posting this here since it's still an issue (without the temporary fix, the flash addon won't load ~25% of the time when I start FF within a sandbox).
Otherwise, still a happy customer ;D

Just got my license renewal notice 29 days out! Renewed with no problem! Just open the GUI and select if you want the free or paid version and fill out the form. Than click submit. It took right away.

nope. sounds are enabled, and present in /ProgramData/Avast folder.
i tried uninstalling using avast's uninstaller (awcleaner.exe or something like that), iobit's uninstaller, revo's pro uninstaller to completely remove, and re install it, but didnt work.

Thanks, gone back to .1901 and all problems disappeared - no slowdowns and I can now go into standby without blue-screening. Normal service resumed - hope this problem doesn't persist to future versions.

I would suggest leaving the Heuristics at the default settings. Having them too high can and probably will result in many more alerts and they will be 99% FP's.

After playing with 6.0.1203 for awhile, I went back to 6.0.1125. The reason is speed. For some reason on my XP PRO SP3 laptop, things in general slowed (for ex: windows explorer for one).
-
My previously posted issues between 1203 and the GUI of a number of applications reached the point where I had to uninstall 1203 and install 1125. Issues resolved. However, when I ran Chrome and Firefox I noticed new icons. On investigation they turned out to be Avast WebRep extensions. I assume they were installed with 1125 and presumably would be installed with 1203. Did I miss a dialog somewhere? I did not knowingly give permission for these. I removed both. What's going on?
-
I've noticed a quirk with 6.0.1203 free on Win7 & WinXP. With both engine/defs & program updates set to manual, the OS no longer notifies of expired virus defs after 7 days. If I enable status bar def auto update monitoring, the avast exclamation icon appears in the system tray, but still no OS warning triggering.
Edit: Confirmed. 6.0.1203 doesn't trigger Windows Security Alerts with expired defs. 6.0.1125 triggers correctly.
-
Finally tried avast 6 version and no problems..
Had to try previous version to know speed variations though..
-
Edit: Confirmed. 6.0.1203 doesn't trigger Windows Security Alerts with expired defs. 6.0.1125 triggers correctly.
This is one more report clearly saying that the tray icon warnings and the tray notifications are not behaving in the same way for all the users with the same settings.
The setting
Settings -> Status Bar (monitoring) -> Virus definitions version
is not working. For me, it isn't working under 1203, AND it was NOT working either under 1125 (and probably it was NOT working before).

For some reason, Autosandbox settings are completely missing from the "additional protection" tab under XP64. Under W7-64, they're present (as expected).
Plus, when running some programs (xp64) (e.g. SUMO), I see the process sf.bin open and closing dozens of times a minute and slowing down the PC considerably...any clues?

- autosandbox isn't available on XP 64-bit OS, because this OS doesn't provide a unified framework for registry filtering which autosandbox is based on
- sf.bin is the component of heuristics engine, so you can see how it starts/terminates itself in Task Manager quite often

Hi guys,
I have just updated to the latest version. After downloading and installing Avast asked me to reboot the system (Win7 ultimate 64-bit). After rebooting the Win7 boot screen appeared as usual, then it disappeared (as it should) and the screen went to the desktop background. Nothing else is happening.
Is this a known issue? I can boot in safe mode (i am in it while writing this message).
Please help!
regards,
v.
addendum: after booting in safe mode and rebooting normally: the screen hung at the win7 boot screen.

OK, autosandbox is unavailable on XP64.
But what about the slowdonws and apps not working correctly? like Sumo, for example. If I uninstall avast, it works just fine. It worked fine with prev. versions of avast.

Try disabling the Behavior Shield.
-
I'll try that, once I reboot into XP64 (I have dual OS on this machine)
Edit: Done, didn't help at all...I still see sf.bin opening and closing and taking up 25% CPU time (which is A LOT, since I own a Phenom II X4 CPU @3.0GHZ)
Edit2: Disabling ALL shields makes SUMO work correctly again. Enabling ONLY File System shield causes SUMO not to work again.
-
Why not add SUMO to the file shield's exclusion list? Check read, write and execute.

Try adding sumo's exe files from program files to the trusted processes in behaviour shield and if that doesn't work try uninstalling the behaviour shield.

Hi jvidal,
please, what Sumo program do u have? Is it this one - http://downloadsquad.switched.com/2008/01/18/sumo-keep-your-pc-programs-up-to-date/

I have Chrome set to open in the sandbox as default, with a red boarder around it. With version AIS 1025, the red boarder failed to show about 20% of the time. Chrome was still running in the sandbox, but no red boarder. Now with version AIS 1203, I have not had that problem once. I have probably opened Chrome 500+ times in 1203, with no problem with the red boarder.
Thanks guys!

This is more likely to be your firewall blocking the updated modules and unrelated to just the new update. Please start your own New Topic here, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2.0 (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2.0) and click on the Net Topic button at the top of the page and we will try to help.

That could work, but only as a temporary measure. SUMO worked just fine with prev. versions of avast, so this is obviously an avast issue...

Please, what version of SUMO do you have? I have checked 2.13.6.113 and see no problems with avast! free 6.0.1203. Do you have avast! free, pro or AIS?
-
Sumo ver 2.13.6.113. Works fine on Win7 x64 with avast free build 1203.
The problem is in XP64.
SO it would be fair to say it's an Avast+XP64 issue.
-
I don't see a sticky for avast! general recommendations so I will post this here.
I could be wrong on this but ISTM that if you are using the Screen Saver scan that it appears to start at the appropriate time even if you are running a pre-scheduled scan like "Quick Scan" at that time.
If that is correct I would like to see an option not to have this happen.
If there already is an option for this I would appreciate a pointer on where it is in the GUI.
Thanks :)
-
All seems to be OK after the update!
Thanks :)

Updated over the top without issue.
However, I'd like to download the latest build so that I can reinstall if necessary when I'm not online. The website is NOT working correctly as the Free update keeps taking me to a pop up screen to upgrade, and then doesn't provide the link for the Free build.
You can see that here: http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

-
Thanks for that reply. I tried with both Firefox 3.6.18 and IE 7. Cleared cache, reloaded page, checked that nothing was being blocked. In IE, it indicated an error on the page. So that's odd.
-
It worked for me but only after about a 20 second lag. (Using Chrome)

Hi max2,
First off sorry for my English.
It usually happens also to me, but in my case I know what is the origin of the issue.
I use a HOSTS file provided by MVPS in order to block ads, banners, parasites, hijackers, unwanted adware etc...
If I temporary disable the HOSTS file (using HostsMan) and clear the browser's cache I can fully access to the Avast! download links.
In other words, my HOSTS file blocks some ads or annoying banners domains that are probably needed for the download link to work.
I suggest you check any security software installed on your system which works with restriction/block list and/or HOSTS file (HostsMan, PeerBlock, Spybot Search & Destroy etc...) and then try temporary disabling the "list"/HOSTS and clearing your browser's cache.
Cheers,
T.

Yes, thanks for those suggestions. I can do all that. But Avast should not require that to download, and it's the only website that has created this issue.
Since Avast is a security company, they know the value of security, and should not be forcing users who might not be so well informed from making such changes. In my case, I already cleared the cache and reloaded the page. But it could be Spybot, a hosts file, no script, etc. and its a pain to have to disable them all just to SEE if that might permit the download.
And there is no such problem downloading the VPS update, so you are probably right that this is an advertising issue and advertising should not force the disabling of security.
P.S. Your English is nothing to apologize about. It's better than many native speakers I know.
-

Unfortunately I cannot provide you more specific info because I use only the MVPS HOSTS file.
However, I can say that some entries from the MVPS HOSTS prevent the links to work - it could be ads, banners or anything (annoying/unwanted) else - and that it is not a recent issue.
In any case, I totally trust MVPS HOSTS.
Cheers,
T.
P.S. thank you very much for your kind words about my English ; )

No luck so far and I'm not sure I want to dedicate much more of my time on this trying to help a friend out with her computer.
Even the context menu (right click) is not working on the download page for the free version. So this must be INTENTIONAL.
The upgrade page pops up and the free version link is greyed out even with Spybot disabled, the mvps host file disabled and allowing scripts to run on the page.
Any programming team that can create an AV program, can surely create a webpage that works without requiring work arounds. Scripts apparently run on the page from cloudfront.net and the popup page issues are caused by http://static.avast.com. One more thing left to try.
-
I don't know why it isn't working for you, I have just tried it with firefox 5.0 and clicked the No thanks, I want the free protection, see image1 when I hover over that button link and image2 the resultant download window in firefox to commence the download.
-
It works fine here with both Chrome and IE8.
It should work for everyone.
I'm not using chrome and I'm not using IE8, but it clearly doesn't work in Firefox 3.6.18 and in IE7. This is the ONLY webpage that has ever given me a download issue and it doesn't evade my attention that it happens when Avast wants to convince me to spend money on an upgrade. Perhaps the marketing people should be quarantined from the programmers.
Do I need to spend 30 min to diagnose a download issue? Disabled the hosts file, Spybot, cleared the cache, forced a page reload, etc.
The free download link is grayed out for me and the context menu is disabled. However, both work fine on all other parts of the Avast website ! That doesn't require much to understand.
So if I thought of suggesting my friend upgrade, I won't think of it now and won't recommend users incur such problems with Avast. This is rather amateur from a security vendor. Rather than a free download link, it can be relabeled as a security test. If you can't download, it means you've secured your computer by means other than just Avast.
-

Look, I'm not lying, and I also still cling to OldFox 3.6.18, use it w/ NoScript, and it works fine.
If it was like this for everyone, your conspiracy theory might have some ground to stand on, but otherwise you just look to be blowing smoke out of your nether-region with such suppositions.

I don't have IE7 so I can't test, same is true of FF 3.6.18. But do you have any add-ons in FF like no script or requestpolicy, etc. that might be getting in the way ?

Just look at the images I posted and explain please. It works everywhere but here. So what's the reason? I'm stupid or don't know how to download?

I disabled noscript, as well as Spybot S&D and removed all entries temporarily from the hosts file. Then I cleared the cache and forced a reload of the page. And I still get issues in both FF and in IE. Since I am not the only one that this has happened to, there must be a reason for this on this page.
You don't want to have users get hung up on downloading your program. You'd prefer they get hung up on configuration or compatibility issues.
-
Success.
I added Avast to the trusted zone in IE and also allowed all cookies. Then and only then did I notice that the context menu worked. While the Free link on the page still would not work, by using the context menu and forcing it to open a new tab, it was clickable in the new tab.
Gargamel360, if you read the precise link you pointed out http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=81870.0, another user found out that the very same context menu trick worked to permit the download.
But that still does not excuse the coding problem on the page. I'm not a programmer (though I have programmed) and this should not happen on any properly coded static page designed for current web browsers.
I wasted a good 45 mins at least on this rather stupid issue.
-
So are you suggesting that I am?
Yeah, the "If it looks like a rat and smells like one, fill in the blank" policy doesn't taste as good when it is directed back at you, does it? ;)
I'm saying if you want to accuse someone of something like marketing deliberately fudging a website to pad paid versions (that is what the veiled "quarrantine the marketing from programmers" reference was for, was it not?), you should have more facts than "It doesn't work right for me", because your system is no more the center of the universe than mine is.

I provided the link so you could read it, I'm not here to hold everyones hand, why would I read the whole thread if I have no problem DLing the file? Anyway, good you got it working.
-
I don't know why it isn't working for you, I have just tried it with firefox 5.0 and clicked the No thanks, I want the free protection, see image1 when I hover over that button link and image2 the resultant download window in firefox to commence the download.
Nor do I.
Here's the IE7 issue and Firefox 3.618 issues.
I can see the problem in IE7 , but where is the issue in FF? Just because the button is grey? That doesn't mean anything. If you click on it , it should work.

It doesn't work. That is the issue. It isn't just a color issue.
If you hover over the paid version, the adress that the link redirects to is listed. If you hover over the free version (gray link), there is nothing.
And if you see a problem being indicated in the IE7 page, then one might reasonably assume that there is a page error that might manifest itself possibly in other browsers or in other configurations. As a website, you want to fix such errors, not discount them.

Sorry, are you now calling me a "rat" in addition to calling me a liar? That's a pretty insulting analysis. So it merits a response. Perhaps you should refraining from helping if you are just going to insult those whose analysis you disagree with.
Let's start from the assumption that Avast customers aren't stupid, rather than from your assumption that they are.
Your "center of the universe" logic is rather flawed. Rather, like any detective, you look at clues. I have no issue with downloading from any other website. Haven't for over 14 years. (I worked for one of the first ISPs, as well as being a consultant to many web companies.) I also have no issue with any other link on any other Avast page. But I do have an issue clicking on a free link that leads me to a "Wait. Are you sure you don't want the paid Avast version" popup that then prevents the free link from continuing.
Those are all facts. Just as were the images showing the issues with IE displaying the precise page error.
On the other hand, your "it works here, so it must work" analysis is pretty weak. You test webpages with various browsers, various resolutions, and you fix "bugs" rather than discount them.
Note, that I didn't tell you that it doesn't work for you. It did tell you that it didn't work for me. I did tell you all the steps that I took to resolve it. And I did tell you what I discovered.
-
What???? No, I'm not calling anyone a rat, you missed the point of my statement, but anyway....I never said you where lying either, really. I tried to show you that "it doesn't work here" is no more valid than "it does work here", a statement you apparently agree with. Flash, Javascript, etc, all factor into a webpage functioning (or not), not to mention anything else you might have installed, each pc is a fingerprint like that. The only thing I strongly disagreed with was your marketing conspiracy statement (and that is what it was). Also, I personally can't condone using IE7, therefore could give a flying duck less about problems with it, it is so out of date I wish all webpages would not work with it, using IE7 (and any other obsolete software) only contributes to the malware problem.
Anyway, I do sometimes make a p!$$-poor "Evangelist", and I am ok with that, but if I offended you through misinterpretation of what I said, I do apologize. I hardly deliver "service with a smile", but you are of course free to take that up with Avast!.
-
I did get the point of your statements. I just didn't agree with them.
I didn't assume that it didn't work for anyone else. Just that it didn't work for me, and apparently, some others.
I shared my user experience: The over the top install worked fine. Backing up of the program was a problem. "It doesn't work here" is always valid. Websites try to work for all users, not just some of them. So the exceptions, and there have been a few of them, show where improvements need to made.
You seem to have missed my points. How do you explain that this is the only download page that has not worked in 14 years? Or that is was the only page that required 45 minutes of effort? (Flash and javascript have nothing to do with it.) And that it is the only Avast link that doesn't work? And that the issue is caused by a "paid" popup that appears when one has already decided on the free version?
In case you don't keep up with security, as far as I know, IE7 is not obsolete. It is supported and actively patched by MS updates. (IE6 is not.) I've seen no report anywhere that properly configured it is less secure than IE8. Mind you, I don't use it and don't like any browser that integrates with the OS, but I your generalized statement seems to be lacking in substance. I used IE7 exclusively for the Avast download when FF 3.6.18 would not work.
The point remains that many users do use IE7, so the Avast download page should work for them. Disabling security also isn't a good practice just to make a download page work. And if the marketing people hadn't tried to push the paid update after the free link was selected, this issue would not occur for anyone.
I didn't state it was a "conspiracy". What I stated was that "This is the ONLY webpage that has ever given me a download issue [a fact] and it doesn't evade my attention that it happens when Avast wants to convince me to spend money on an upgrade. [an analysis] Perhaps the marketing people should be quarantined from the programmers." [a tongue-in-cheek suggestion].
-
It's well known that IE8 is more secure than IE7 and that IE9 is more secure than either one and maybe the most secure of all the browsers.
Just because one person has a problem on the site with IE7, doesn't mean everyone will either. Maybe compatibility mode would make a difference?
-

Just because one person has a problem on the site with IE7, doesn't mean everyone will either. Maybe compatibility mode would make a difference?
In other words, it some users have an issue, it should be ignored? Or the browser configuration is wrong for just this one page but works on a million other pages? That's possible but unlikely.
How do you also explain the image I posted of the IE7 page error:
Line: 31
Charcter: 1
Error: 'pageTracker is null or not an object
Code: 0
URL: http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download
Until Avast can explain it, the fault would seem to be on the page and not with the user!
As for IE8 being "well known" to be more secure, not from what I read on security forums. You'll see that there has been plenty of discussion about it in security forums and few defintive statements:
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r24567718-IE8-the-most-secure-browser-in-the-market-
http://news.softpedia.com/news/IE8-Blocked-Over-1-Billion-Malware-Download-Attempts-148943.shtml
Some like it, but there is nothing I've read anywhere which suggests that IE7 properly locked down is more insecure than IE8. If you have a source that suggests otherwise other than MS hyping their newest and latest browser, I'd be interested in reading it.
While I appreciate your suggestions, the fact remains that it took 45 minutes to dowload a file that would take 2 minutes on any other webpage. The average user won't change computers, operating systems, disable security protocols or configurations, etc. to download a file, and they won't have the patience to spend this much time diagnosing why the download doesn't work.
-
No, I didn't say it should be ignored but that it's most likely stemming from not just the Avast page itself but from a combination of installed apps on a particular computer. These things are very hard to track down and almost impossible to anticipate.

ohk so now that it is here, how can I get it?

You should have by now been offered it, but you don't say what version of avast you are currently using ?
That also has an impact as to how you get it, through the avastUI or full download (links given above). And if you should do a clean install or not.
-
Vlk, thank you.
Updated from UI. The update went smoothly, all settings saved.
thank you for this new version

Just got Avast Pro. Don't know if Sandbox and SafeZone browser are really secure. I have set my settings not to keep anything in the sandbox after closure. Still, while in the Sandbox settings I have 0 MB of disk space for the Sandbox, I have all my history and cookies upon reopening Google in Sandbox. I have to manually clear all data. Is there a way to automatize that. Also, it absolutely interferes with the Sandboxie sandbox (message error pop-ups are filling my screen each time I open an Avast sandboxed program) :-[

This is really something you should you should talk about outside this topic as it is likely to a) promote a good number of comments and b) would divert what this topic is about a (not so new) program update.

Thank you for Avast Internet Security 6.0.1203

Hi Everybody!
Sorry if my spelling isn't good. I write from Hungary and I'm a beggin er!
I know this is not the about forum!
I have a problem, but I don't find solution.
I'd like to buy an Avast IS. I download and install IS for my PC, but I can't share files and folders.
Where can I set this in Avast IS?
Thank you in advance!
PS.: If it doesn't big request, show the method on the pictures.

Thank you indeed but how many people are reporting a slowdown and loss of resources. I used MS' Process Explorer to show that it is the AVAST service that causes the slowdown. Looks like a memory leak or excessive memory useage. On Windows XP Pro SP3 and I have just tried the "slowdown patches" but not the other patches. I lean towards falling back.
-
I seem to have one problem! My free registration expires shortly and when I try to re-register I get INTERNET Explorer cannot display this page!! Any suggestions? TSL and SSL are marked!

I am using Windows 7. I installed Avast Free Antivirus 6.0.1203 three days ago. I am not able to update the antivirus, each time I click on update it gives me this error message "Cannot connect to server......Cannot connect to II002.avast.com (208.111.160.6:80)". I have included avast in the list of programs that firewall should allow to access the internet. I tried switching off my firewall in order to do the update but it didn't work.... I have uninstalled and reinstalled the antivirus but I still can update, am I missing something?Huh/
I really need help.
Thanx

I really need help.
Set avast! to: Direct Connection (No Proxy)

So you are trying to use Sandboxie in the avast! manual sandbox? If I read that right and that's what you doing, then I don't know if that is possible. I use AIS and have Google Chrome set to always run sandboxed in AIS. I unchecked the "store data in the sandbox" and I also unchecked all of the settings to not be virtualized (cookies, history, bookmarks, extensions). The only setting that is checked is to "download a program outside of the sandbox", and I can browse all day, and at the end of the day when I run CCleaner, there is not a single Chrome entry to delete. Every time I close Chrome, everything just disappears...............I think that's what you were asking! lol
-
If I read that right and that's what you doing, then I don't know if that is possible.
It isn't.
We already told him in another topic.
So this should be solved meanwhile.
-
Man, there goes all of my great advice. 8)
-
So you are trying to use Sandboxie in the avast! manual sandbox?
No. I had Sandboxie installed. If I call Sandboxie for a sandboxed browser. Fine OK. But if I call Avast Pro for an Avast Sanbdboxed browser (I haven't touched or called Tzuk's Sandboxie at all...) I get error messages pop-ups and what it seems to be interferences. So, it's like having 2 AV programs, 2 won't work correctly together. So I decided to remove Tzuk's Sandboxie. Everything is fine now 8)
-
I can say avast! Sandbox is very well descripted and you made a good choice for it. I find sometime other sandbox program very hard to understand or use. ;)

I am another one of those XP PRO SP3 users who fell back to 6.0.1125.
I'm also thinking of rolling back to that version. Maybe avast! is being a little too thorough with its scanning lately, I don't know; too many modules for XP systems without large amounts of RAM?

If so, apply patch ap2011-17-07-002: http://public.avast.com/~kurtin/patches/#ap20111707002

I did try one of those patches, but it didn't seem to make a whole lot of difference.
I'll wait and see what the next version update brings.
-
Trying the patches in the hope that it might have some effect isn't advisable as the reason/s for the patch must exactly match your problem and software mentioned in the patch information.
-
Then I will have to wait for a program update and hope the situation improves.

fmarka,
What I don't understand is what changed between the latest two releases... my XP PRO SP3 laptop took to the first 6.0 release and every update thereafter with no discernable problems until the last one, which made me roll it back one version.

Hi, I just purchased a new Asus 1215B. The first thing I did was uninstall trial Antivirus, downloaded and attempted to install Avast Version 6.0.1203.0 But I get a 'An Error 0 (00000000) has occured. Last performed operation was: spawning', message. Any suggestions?
-
It would probably be better to start a fresh thread for this problem - the expert help is more likely to spot it that way.
If you do a forum or google search you will find similar problems discussed.
The starting point I think is going to be to make sure that all remnants of both avast and the trial antivirus are fully uninstalled using the dedicated uninstall utility for each of them. You are best to run them in safe mode I believe.
See a list of uninstallers here (thanks to Pondus) - Uninstallers for Security Software http://thewebatom.net/uninstallers/security-software/
Then install a fresh copy of avast.
Remember to reboot after each uninstall and install operation.

Thanks

when I try to install avast appears the following error
avast update stopped working the program will be closed

Firefox said that avast rep tool isn't compatible with firefox 6.
Is that true?
If yes when we going to get an update for it?
Thanks.
