So... considering the supposed "recommended limits" only SSDs and high perf new HDs (top end) will be able to manage the NG!  :-[

To me this means that this functionality is not thought for normal users that have 1-3 years aged mid range PCs, but only for entusiasts (please correct me if I am wrong, since I have not tested it yet...). Which was the impact on performance wrt v8/9 on office oriented PCs?  ???
You take the tarot cards and throw them to the wind!

Thanks, this seems to be working well:

The auto redirect to the update however did not work.
I needed to do the update manually in the usual "about Chrome" manner.

Thanks Bob,
we are aware of this issue. It was caused by some change in Google Update, which requires UAC, and we cannot do it automatically ;-(

For good performance of NG, it is critical to have a system disk with good random read performance. In final version, there will be no hard SSD condition, but rather a 16kB random read performance requirement (2 MB/s for example). Also it will be possible to install NG through installer even if disk performance condition isn't met.

It is possible to check the performance of system volume by "winsat disk -ran -read -drive c" command.

Code: [Select]
C:\>winsat disk -ran -read -drive c
Windows System Assessment Tool
> Running: Feature Enumeration ''
> Run Time 00:00:00.00
> Running: Storage Assessment '-ran -read -drive c'
> Run Time 00:00:09.52
> Disk  Random 16.0 Read                       1.77 MB/s          4.1
> Total Run Time 00:00:10.62

Well there goes my WD5000AZRX Caviar Green  :(

Gordon.
I should be fast enough then ?C:\Windows\system32>winsat disk -ran -read -drive c
Windows System Assessment Tool
> Running: Feature Enumeration ''
> Run Time 00:00:00.00
> Running: Storage Assessment '-ran -read -drive c'
> Run Time 00:00:05.94
> Disk  Random 16.0 Read                       2.90 MB/s          4.6
> Total Run Time 00:00:06.33

Hopefully it's fast enough to run NG, big difference between that and my SSD below

C:\WINDOWS\system32>winsat disk -ran -read -drive c
Windows System Assessment Tool
> Running: Feature Enumeration ''
> Run Time 00:00:00.00
> Running: Storage Assessment '-ran -read -drive c'
> Run Time 00:00:00.13
> Disk  Random 16.0 Read                       461.30 MB/s          8.2
> Total Run Time 00:00:00.48

I've got an SSD as C: drive and here NG has fanished as well. So even having an SSD is not a guarantee it seems.

<ModeFlags friendlyName="Random Read">0x01000002</ModeFlags>
<IoSize units="bytes">16384</IoSize>
<ZoneStart units="bytes">0x0021000200</ZoneStart>
<ZoneEnd units="bytes">0x3b9e600200</ZoneEnd>
<Throughput units="mbs">392.73</Throughput>
<IssueTime units="us">0.0396</IssueTime>

392MB/s 16KB random read  should be enough...right?

You keep asking the same question and the answer is always the same " there is no set release date " when it's released you'll see it posted here on the forum.

As already mentioned, it's a Release Candidate.
It is not a final release.

You don't need to know the language, the avastUI clearly shows Avast 2015 (no beta on that page) and the about avast window below that shows 10.0.2024. Mind you My avastUI home page doesn't show beta on it either - but my about avast shows 10.0.2023.

Certainly strange considering we were/are expecting an RC3.

So this looks very like it is a Regular

Now see the new topic indicating a new RC3 build https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=157166.0.
