Hopefully the problems generated in 2223 and up that ALSO affected SP3 like lost r-click on Outlook, etc will be resolved, as well.

You're welcome and yes it has also effected XP SP3 systems and some on win7 also. I believe that the issue of right click in Outlook is being addressed in later beta builds.

Avast! have now acknowledged the problems in displaying images in some sites, in another topic and are now working on it.

I'm making my annual check into avast updates. At this point see no reason to change.  2014.9.0.2021 (June 2014) is still working on this XP SP3 box. The only reason I might update is if the GUI has improved. I find it very difficult to negotiate and find anything. Too many complicated "features", 95%+ of which I don't want anyway. For example I had to spend almost an hour to figure out where the exclusions and virus chest are located then make suitable entries. Fortunately I don't have to do that very often, once a year is plenty.
