Some computer history.

For many of you, this could be considered ancient history.
One of the last tasks I carried out in the Army was as part of a team we replaced an ICL 2900 Mainframe computer (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICL_2900_Series) with A Hewlett Packard PC. And some would also consider that ancient history ;
This was in Hong Kong in 1993 and the ICL 2900 was in a very big temperature controlled computer room. That single Main Frame computer has 6 linked storage devices (memory banks) with massive platters (6 big discs drives). I was just blown away by all of this being replaced by a PC (a powerful one though) that was infinitely more powerful.
That computer room was pretty popular in the heat of Hong Kong.
Our team was out there for 30 days and had only two days off in that time, so we didn't get to see much of Hong Kong, fortunately I had been out there before for 10 days.
