Seriously I dont care what company it is, for the mall owners to permit such a thing is outrageous. In the malls around here the only things in the hallway like that are small food stands or like AT&T/Verizon/Sprint wireless kiosks (really how many different wireless kiosks do you need in one mall? good grief!).

Imagine Toyota setting up a booth in front of a Ford Dealership. Would not make the Ford employees happy either.

Nothing stopping Apple putting a kiosk outside Microsoft shops, Oops they don't have any MS Retail outlets.

Well you could always have a mobile advertisement driving round the Redmond HQ, but somehow I doubt it would have the same effect.

Edit: They could always close the Apple store and deny the Mall operator the revenue

Well I rather like David's Idea of closing the Apple store and moving it to another location to deny the mall operator the revenue. Plenty of other places to build.

That is an option although very expensive.

I have Windows 7 build 6801 set up on a test machine but is only good for 30 days since I'm not one of the chosen few.
