Hello everyone,
some of you may remember me as blind man who fights for screen reader accessibility of antivirus programs, even I was here a long time ago.
My post will be longer than expected, but I hope that devs will read.
First of all, congratulations on new version.
Installed free version and installation went fine. Because I am advanced user, I set all shields to ask me before any action taken.
No automation, I had to decide.
Especially HIPS.
I challenged "virus found" dialogue with one keygen, false positive of course, and decided to clear it.
But popup starting to apeer again, again and again, with information that process search protocol host.exe requesting the file, even its already removed by Avast! realtime protection.
When I ckclicked "block" instead "delete", popups disapeered.
System was stable and everything worked fine, until I got to update tab on Avasts settings window.
There, updates said that need to apply some critical update and requested restart. I pressed "restart now", and, boom. My system crashed, with Win RE presented to me.
Fortunately, I am using latest Insider build with talking Win RE and recovered, reimaged my PC in a minute without sighted assistance.
Dont know why its happened, but I am now living without Avast. Waiting next build.
Now, I wish to talk about Avasts accessibility to screne reader programs.
I am using JAWS.
The best Avast time for blind community was when developer Omar Yonatan cooperated and worked with me, polished and tuned UI, to fit our needs.
After him, everything going only down, and down, with critical progress.
Its so sad to see, especially because mostly all antiviruses are not accessible with screen readers fair enough.
When I opened Avast main window, I got nothing. Tab, arrow keys, enter, do nothing. Navigation with keyboard is impossible.
But when I clicked casually somewhere with mous, screen reader presented me UI, looks as webpage shown in Chromeum based browser.
And, its so nice for us to operate, but its not apeered instantly.
Every time I click some option, I am losing focus and need to click somewhere with mous to get working window again.
I am ready to cooperate if you like to help. Testing is not a problem.
Settings screen is accessible like always was. Only shields tab not accessible completely, but I can work there.
Avast safe zone browser, working great, because its Chromeum based browser.

I did clean install, but all default exceptions from File System Shield are gone. They are no longer needed? And all virus test take longer time. Whole gui seems slower and when i launch Outlook 2010, it takes too much time for first start. It happens only me?  Avast Emergency update is now 8 min delayed or something is wrong with my install?  BTW is clean install better or it doesn't matter? Thanks for answers.

I find one bug. After Smart scan, when i hit notification button show results, it doesn't show me results , but execute smart test again.

Sad to say but I've found the upgrade from Avast Free 12.3.2280 (or 12.3.2279) to Avast Free 17.1.2286 disastrous.
(see posting at https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=196470.msg1365045#msg1365045 )

Just updated and now my computer takes quite a bit longer to boot up, well it starts at the normal speed but I'm stuck staring at the desktop until AvLaunch finishes running and than applications are able to be opened up, it's as if Avast launching is bottlenecking other programs.

I appreciate the work you're putting into these but it seems every update makes things just a little bit slower.

how i get the option run quick sac & full scan & smart scan, i don't see any of the options anywhere, where are this options?

oh god they should stop changing the UI all the time or give option each time does user want to change it or not, its annoying to learn the new UI
Click on Protection -> Antivirus -> Type of Scan.

okay

is avast identity protection service old thing that was not free before or a new thing? & do i need it? if no then how do turn it off? so far i have gotten by without it, i don't know a thing about it

i am off for today
Yes, it is a new thing and it provides a behavior analysis protection. You should keep it for zero day threats protection.

what is behavior analysis protection

i hope it doesn't hide my IP, cause some sites specially game sites use IP to intensify ppl, that's also why i always rejected the message about Hide me, avast sometimes asks user do u want to hide urself or something like that, 2strict security will harass gamers that's one reason i have stayed in avast free ver so i hope they will keep free ver in the lvl & not make it 2strict :)

@Ben B: Had also BSOD. I deactivated Hardware virtualization support in Troubleshooting settings, afterwards the BSOD was gone.

Thanks, tried it and it did indeed stop the BSODs.
Will try enabling it again in the next version I guess.

You can try of course, but as a far I can see, the issue occurs since years. The first time i had the issue was in 2014....
Maybe avast fixes some time.

Hi, I installed version 17 new on a PC. Now the PC is shown as offline in my avast account.
So my question is:
How can I link my local installation to my avast account?
I didn't find any "Sign In" or "Account" settings in version 17. Is it gone?

Thanks a lot

The User Profile Service failed the sign in
« Reply #89 on: February 08, 2017, 09:34:16 AM »
Just FYI.
The upgrade to this version *may* have caused a Windows 10 sign in problem.  When I turned on my PC today (and it was finishing the update to this version),  I could not log on to Windows.  I got an "The user profile service failed the sign in" error and it booted me back to the sign in screen.  Googling the problem said that a possible cause was antivirus program activity.
Restarting my computer solved the problem.  I scanned my HDD for errors (nothing was found).  Have since sucessfully rebooted as well.
Again, it may have just been coincidental - or maybe not.
