I am getting the sudden appearance of blue titled yellow background rectangle (Avast generated??) which tells me I have sample of something called Swizzor
It says I have in C:/windows/temp two files

withe names beginning with E followed by numbers and <dot>exe
When this message appears the computer hangs & I have to reeboot
My Windows is 98. I have run the Avast cleaner but it has not detected anything wrong both in memory and filesin disks.

Haven t a clue on what to do?
Would a kind soul provide any guidance

tks/

Hi and welcome
you can rid yourself of these by cleaning out the temp files . Just use "windows explorer" or "my computer" to work your way down the path to the temp files and delete the contents.
If Avast! has warned you of them then they have done you no damage .
good luck  :)

Have you checked your hard disk using ScanDisk?

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsme/using/computerhealth/articles/scandisk.asp

If you're still getting black screen problems, it may well be a hardware/video card error as DavidR and Cloussau have suggested.

I reckon your computer is clean of malware, but if you really want to get a second or third opinion, try a few online scans: some will delete malware, some will only tell you if you have a virus.

I would recommend Trend Micro Sysclean ad F-Secure as scanners which clean malware, and the Kaspersky scanner as on which detects but doesn't remove.

We will need more information to be able to help you:
- Which OS are you using? Is it up to date?
- What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number?
- What was the filename and path where the virus was found?
- Which actions have you taken to try solving the problem?
- Do you use a firewall? Which one?
- Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?
- Any other security programs that could interfere?

Generally, if a virus is replicant (coming and coming again), you should:

1) Disable System Restore on Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;%5BLN%5D;310405
2) Clean your temporary files.
3) Schedule a boot time scanning with avast. Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning. Select for scanning archives. Boot.
4) Use a-squared, Free AVG Antispyware, SUPERantispyware or Spyware Terminator (trojan removers).

As David mentioned before, a black screen error may indicate a hardware problem: it may be time to consult a computer repair company.
