Not Happy /w The New Avast v. 5.0.545.

My previous version of Avast (before v. 5.0.545) worked great with my POP Gmail in Thunderbird 2.0.  Now, there is an issue with Gmail's SSL setting.    I searched for a fix but only found a drawn out dog and pony show..  Not to mention the need to download another program!

With the popularity of Gmail you would think the Avast people would have fixed this issue.  But whats got me spinning is why didn't the previous version have the Gmail SSL issue?

If I'm missing something please let me know.  Otherwise, I'm uninstalling Avast and going else where.

can I ask you what your settings are in Thunderbird? ports and security modes used for POP and SMTP?

Simple solutions:

1. Do not have Mail Shield scan Gmail
2. Do not have Mail Shield installed.

I choose no. 2 as File Shield scans all files when accessed.

not the first time you're posting this Yokenny...you're advising again to a poster who doesn't have the correct settings for the mail shield not to use the mail shield at all....

 @ the OP: ignore Yokenny's post ... whether the file shield scans or not mail files is another debate, completely off topic here.

okay, this just means that you never used the mail shield before. The only difference is that before, in previous Avast builds, the mail shield proxy was ignoring your settings, but now there's a bug. So you can either go on like before, by deactivating the mail shield which I certainly won't advise, or get it to work for the first time

I'll post some for 2.0.0.24 then.    For imap, use imap.gmail.com and port 143.  Avast! will intercept your mail and translate them to the proper ports to access your mail server in secure mode via OpenSSL so that the mail can be scanned.  The SSL accounts shown are from avast! mail shield/expert settings/ssl accounts and is what should be generated by Avast!.
