After updating to Avast Pro 5.0.594 (with Vista 64 bit OS), I am unable to get to the Internet with Avast turned on. Is anyone experiencing this issue besides me? It sounds like some feature needs to be toggled on?

For me, also with Vista x64, the update has broken something.  I cannot boot at all, except for safe mode.

Anyone else?

Anyone got a good way to fix it?

Thanks.

Neil

I tried "changing" using the Avast! control panel in safe mode.  (Actually I changed none of the selections for the protection types nor the languages).  After the "change" process finished, the computer started working fine again.

Now it is still version 5.0.594, but working correctly.

What do you mean, "still version 5.0.594". This is the latest version...

Thanks

I recently upgraded my laptop AV from avast 4.8 home to avast 5.0.594 free. Memory consumption is lower, and boot up is faster by about 15 seconds.

No problems with upgrade to 594.  Suggestion:  Despite warnings on GUI, I think there should be a pop up for people who don't look at the GUI to reboot their machine.

Thank you Avast.  :)

I'm still getting the Sandbox+IE8 32bit+win7 64bit crash problem on 594.  Same trigger - open a new tab...BANG!

Things are ok apart from that though  :)

Is there minidumps files into avast log folder? Can you send them to vlk (at) avast (dot) com and explain?

Hi Tech,

I uploaded 3 iexplore.dmp files (one per tab I guess) a few days ago from build 590.  Not heard anything since though.

A few people reported this problem with sandbox and IE32 with the last release version, but so far I think I'm the only one to report that it still hasn't been fixed for me.

Seems under Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, I still cannot do an in-place upgrade with Avast Internet Security. I have to either uninstall the current version and then install the newest version, or else boot into safe mode, go to the Programs section in Control Panel and tell it to Update from there. I can't do upgrades from within Avast's update tab (except for virus definitions). Any updates to the actual program cause the update to fail. The main reason is the same that's been going on for months with every other prior version: the SETUP.LOG file shows that the following:

23:27:45 nrm/fil  File C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\Setup\setup.ovr not writable. Error 0x00000020
23:27:45 min/gen  setif: same as previous
23:27:47 vrb/pkg  FilterOutExistingFiles: 138 & 138 = 0
23:27:47 vrb/pkg  FilterOutExistingFiles: 138 & 138 = 0
23:27:47 min/gen  m_bOperationDidSomething 138/138/0
23:27:48 nrm/pkg  Transferred: files 4, bytes 0, time 764 ms
23:27:48 nrm/pkg  Retries: total 0, files 0, servers 3
23:27:48 min/gen  Customer 27255093
23:27:48 vrb/int  Sending stats 'http://download674.avast.com/cgi-bin/iavs4stats.cgi': 00000000 204
23:27:48 vrb/fil  NeedReboot=false
23:27:48 min/gen  Return code: 0x20000010 [New setup available.]
23:27:48 min/gen  Stopped: 07.05.2010, 23:27:48

I cannot find why this file is locked, but it prevents the in-place upgrade within the Avast program from working. As stated, I have to uninstall the program or else, boot into safe mode and update it that way.

Getting kind of annoying.
