Thanks for the update, seems there is no way to get the standalone installer anymore, uses the download manager to install and there are new adjustable settings in control panel if no one has noticed.

It is still there you just need to bookmark the link, http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ or read everything on the adobe.com/software/flash/about/ for alternatives, which takes you to the link I gave.

Sorry David but that link requires you to download the download manager to get the flash player, file hippo now has the standalone version http://www.filehippo.com/download_flashplayer_ie/

I have never had to use the download manager with that link. Why that is is a mystery to me, but I always use firefox when visiting that link and download both IE and other browser options, weird.

Through a process of clicking on links from the page that shows the version you have I found this http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html#main_ManualInstaller. Why you want to do it that way I don't know since it says you have to manually uninstall the old version first. Using the download manager seems much simpler to me since it just updates what you have. I have found that at least for the IE version, the old .ocx file remains on your system, but that's no big deal since it's not being used any more and poses no security risk. You can always go in later and delete it if you want.

Another thing I've experienced is that this XP machine downloads the download manager every time I update Flash but the Vista machine just goes straight to the actual installer and does not download the manager every time. The Vista machine also alerts when an update is available, the XP one does not even though it is set to do so.
