Still waiting for Lukor to fix the minor handle leak issue in WebShield... :P

Hmm, I thought I'd seen some changes that looked like the fix... I guess it wasn't complete yet then :)

hgratt, you don't need to reinstall / patch anything. The fix is included in the upcoming update, even though the custom line in the INI file is still necessary.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving's not for you.

OK, a new beta refresh (4.6.688) has just been uploaded... ;)

If you have the previous beta already installed, just invoke program update. If not, http://files.avast.com/files/beta/aswbeta.exe will bring you there.

Thanks!

This may be a duplicate post - can't find what I thought I just sent!

Anyway, just to make sure that I understand you:

1. All that I have to do is allow the program to be updated?
2. Will the program update replace the patch files that I am currently using? I thought one of those patch files was there to prevenr overwrites.
3. Will the current .ini file be preserved or will I have to add back the custom line?
4. If a program update or new install creates a new .ini file, why would the custom line not be included?

Thanks,
Harvey

As soon as the update goes official, yes. Until then, you'd need to run the aswBeta.exe utility mentioned in my 1st post.

2. Will the program update replace the patch files that I am currently using? I thought one of those patch files was there to prevenr overwrites.

It will replace them. The file you're talking about (the .sum file) also contains version info. If we're updating to a NEWER version, the overwrite will take place and the .sum file itself will actually be removed.

3. Will the current .ini file be preserved or will I have to add back the custom line?

Sure, it will be preserved. The update won't touch your settings!

4. If a program update or new install creates a new .ini file, why would the custom line not be included

This file contains your settings. No update will overwrite it.

I hope this answers your question. ;)

Thanks

Re: ashQuick.exe

Confirming that with 4.6.688 ashQuick scan has returned to previous behaviour, completely scanning C: drive with command line parameter C:

Thanks for the update.

Thanks Vlk. Just one further clarification on item 4:

What I'm trying to ask is that if one were to newly (that is, a person never having used the product before) download and install the new version when it comes out. then why would the custom line not be included in the .ini file since it also seems to be needed, along with your fix, to obtain the high upload speeds.

Thanks,
Harvey

That's correct. By default, the "fix" (or rather say "alternative sending method" will not be enabled). We just don't have guts to do such a big change at once.
Therefore, to enable it, you will need to add the line to the INI file.

Thanks

I'd prefer Default button over forcing default values each time you open preferences.

Something like this:

Same should be for Standard Shield exclusions.
I remove all Web Shield exclusions since browsing speed doesn't change for me in full scan mode (for example,NOD32 IMON slows down browsing very much),so this forcing of default exclusions is just messing up with my own preference of settings.

EDIT:
Oh,i'd also like to se that update tray icon shows ONLY on actual updates, not on every update check, even if it's "blank".

You can always insert an exclusion like "blablabla" to prevent the list from being populated with default values (although effectively, this will have the same effect as having the list empty as blablabla doesn't sound like a probable URL mask...). Sorry RejZoR you're probably the only user who's crying for this feature and since it's not exactly a 10 minute work to implement (because of the internal structure in which the settings are persisted) it's quite unlikely we'll change it for now...

Urg :( I hope that this will be planned for next major release...)

Anyway,do these default values get back when you open Web Shield again or they revert to default even if you don't open exlusions window?
I mean if i delete them and never open Web Shield exclusions again, would the list stay empty or would default values be there again?

In short, zero list means default list. It's stored in the same way on disk.

Ok,i used this as Web Shield MIME exclusion:

Code: [Select]
.:WEB SHIELD POWER MODE:.
I don't think that any MIME will match this hehe ;)
Thanks for the tip Vlk :)

Can I set no exclusions on Standart shield or it's not recommended?  ???

Sorry, just tried. default exclusions set is restored every time I remove them all...

Yeah, I try to remove the exclusion list from webshield, it came back.  I wonder if this would decrease my internet speed if I remove some exclusions from Web Shield.  :-\
