I hope it is a good risk. The other one is developed by the Chinese and I should give it a go because I am Chinese.

do you have more then one AV installed?
was previous used AV removed with that vendors removal tool?

No, I've only ever had Avast installed. I do have MalwareBytes installed but it's not a active shield, I only use it to run scans on my system every now and then. I've had both installed for over a year now, with no problems. :/

Have you tried System Restore?

Yeah, with  no luck. I hadn't changed anything on my system. It just started one day on boot up.

Are you sure that avast was thoroughly uninstalled before reinstallation? The Add/Remove Programs may be unable to do the job well.

I am running windows 7 home premium with service pack 1, btw.

Yeah, as I stated in the original post, I used CP only to have it freeze on the VisthAux.exe portion, then used the avast clear program. Tried this several times with no luck. Even used CCleaner to remove all reg entries.

Is it possible that your 1-year license has expired?

The last resort is reinstallation of Windows 7, which I have done once before.

Eh, I find that to be a bit much just to get avast running properly again. I do want avast to work, but I'm not willing to wipe my entire computer in order to do so.

Thanks for the help though, I just would like another option. :/

Repair avast!:
1. Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> avast!
2. Click on 'Repair'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.

Thanks Matthew,

I also tried the uninstall tool and then reinstall, but unfortunately that didn't work. The last time this issue happened I just waited until the next day for the latest Avast update and things were fine. Just to confirm, does Avast do daily updates?

This is a major issue because it almost renders my PC useless for the first 10 minutes or so. I am surprised there hasn't been more cases reported on these forums. If this continues, I will have to go with another anti-virus which is too bad since I have been using Avast for years now.

If it helps, I am running Win 8.1, Samsung EVO 840 SSD, Asus ROG MB, GTX 670.
