While David is updating, I'm downdating....

This is an old HP Elite 64 bit system with 3 GB of Ram. It started out with Vista.
I upgraded it to Windows 8.1 and subsequently to Windows 10. It's been on the
Windows insider preview builds of Windows 10 since shortly after upgrading to Windows 10.
After I had a chance to do some exploring of the latest Windows 10 release soon to be
available, I decided it was time for a fresh start. I'm keeping my personal stuff and settings
but ditching everything else. Once that's done, I'll use Ninite to install what I want back on the system.

That is certainly a handy tool.

Ninite not only lets you download many programs all at once, but also makes sure none of them
slip you anything unexpected. (No Add-ons, toolbars or Malware.) That same installer, also acts as an updater tool
for the programs you've installed. (Another nice tool I pass along to those that attend my Avast sponsored presentations. ) :)

It is good in that it doesn't just update programs but will also install them. That is without doubt the biggest pain in the backside of clean installing a new OS.

I would say it has been my experience. If you recall I was trying to get the Creators update from the 5th of August https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=156141.msg1412985#msg1412985.  Well that little operation took in the region of seven hours. It failed twice and finally installed successfully on the third attempt.

That would have been on the evening of the 6th of August and I had Windows version 1703.  I even did a manual WU and picked up another couple after I had 1703.

Now after Patch Tuesday, again a manual WU and it did a cumulative one plus the malicious software scan one, plus some others. But my WU History effectively started this Patch Tuesday, there is no record of any updates on 1607. So it is weird as I wasn't on 1607 for the Patch Tuesday updates, but my history is as they say 'History' gone, toast.

Go figure.

I didn't catch the 1607. Those things usually happen when folks continue to use outdated software.
An operating system is still software. :)

The problem being, despite always getting the patch Tuesday updates, 1703 was never one of them nor was it offered, I had to go looking.  Not to mention at the time of this patch Tuesday I already had 1703, so in essence this shouldn't have happened (if the article is to be believed) as I didn't have 1607.

Long before this so-called glitch happened (June 2017), I upgraded this system to 1703, only to find all updates from the old 1607 were gone too.

So not only you either.  As Bob says, operating systems are software too, and apparently old records are tossed when migrating to the new.

Possibly, but I'm almost certain some of Julys patch Tuesday had some annotation/reference to 1703 (I don't know if they had anything to do with preparation for 1703) and they are gone to.
