Windows 10 privacy settings
<snip image>
This will help you decrease some of the information that's shared by default in Windows 10.
(The only way to totally protect your privacy is to never go online, never use a smart device.)

Something else, a link that came out in that BillMullins article you posted in the Security and Warnings, is that They are also taking liberties, stealing your bandwidth (default opt-in),  using your system to distribute win10 to other users. I don't know where that option is but one that should be found and squashed.

Make sure Windows Update is selected in the left-hand navigation pane (it’s the default when you open Updates & Security) and then click Advanced Options in the main pane.
win10 updates dash

You’ll see a lot of options and checkboxes. Peruse them if you’d like, but for today’s task, you’ll want to click on Choose how updates are delivered.

Yes, I have thoroughly gone threw all the Privacy setting and for my use means turning off the Vast Majority including Camera and Microphone until I'm ready to use; then I enable.
Most of my work is done be Key Board.

There are also issued about Using Cortana (I guess since disabling the microphone, it can't run) as once you use it you effectively have opted in to it collecting data from multiple sources, not just your searches.

Yes David, Cortana and Regional Services are definitely high on the list for tracking.'
Cortana isn't officially available in Canada (GO Figure) however you can get it, I got it by simply changing my Region to the 'United States' and voila.
Changed it back to Canada and moved on. ;)

Cortana just like Sire and Google's voice search depend on certain information in order to
make their replies more personal.
If you disable certain functions (GPS) Cortana will not be available.
You have to decide what's important to you.

I should have been doing this yesterday. My internet was down all day and this never even crossed my mind.
I was suffering through internet withdrawal.

A good way to kill some time. The cleanup if you're getting rid of the old OS files, takes some time.
(I used some magic to speed up the process in the video. ) :)

Nothing worse than no internet. I have a webinar for a club in Long Island NY tonight.
That certainly wouldn't work without good internet access.

Guess what, they lied. Windows Media Player plays CD's just fine and sounds better than any other player. You can customize the sound much more than with things like VLC. You just need to go to autorun in the Control Panel and set music CD's to open in Media Player.

Seems like upgrading from win 8 to win 8.1 was much easier and less complicated than upgrading from win 8.1 to win 10.

One was a Service Pack, Windows 10 is a full Operating System.
It isn't complicated unless you want to make it that way.
You've gotten all the instructions to make it as easy as possible.

Hope this explains it:

When you insert a cd/dvd into the drive, you'll get a popup asking you what you want to do with this Media
Once you click on that popup, you'll see the following:

On my system I have a choice of what program to use to play this Audio CD or, do nothing
If you had no other Player installed on your system you would only have 2 options:
Windows Media Play or Take no action.

Easy as pie. Stop procrastinating and take the plunge. Remember, once installed, you have a whole month to go back. :)

Yesterdays update didn't work, blue screen popped up saying computer was going to reboot, never did, so powered off and tried again, still nothing. Got to repair screen and tried a repair, didn't work, so back to W7. At least it works perfectly on my computer and I'm familiar with it, don't need shiny and new, need something that works. W7 was the last Windows OS built for desktops, everything after needed to  be programmed for desktops, laptops, tablets, phones etc so I'm not surprised that its the best OS to date. Had a feeling these auto updates would cause big problems, going to be interesting to see how this plays out.
