Thank You for your reply to my admittedly vexed and frustrated post.
My subscription has indeed been cancelled, because I found the phone number for Digital River and called them directly to cancel it.
Now I'll say to you what I said to them, Why would it be any more difficult to put a "cancel auto renew" button on the page than it is to put a "renew subscription" button on the page.
I think the answer is obvious to everyone.
Frankly I'm a bit surprised that a reputable company like Avast is allowing this sort of "sharp practice" to occur on their platform.
That's not just my opinion, how many other vexed and frustrated people have posted about this.
We just will not trust you again. How can this possibly be considered good business by you.
