Thanks Bob had already done that. Given up and now running the free version. There is obviously a bug that I am not able to solve. Have spent hours trying to get this fixed!

The other thing that you can try is to disable the Avast Firewall. You'll still be protected by the firewall that's part of Windows just as you are now in the free version of Avast. Your problem is definitely in the firewall settings since with the free version you aren't having any problems.

You installed the wrong one or you were on the Beta Channel before. Run the Avast Clean tool to completely remove Avast. Then use this link:  http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe .. and download the full offline installer for Avast Free AV ... Run the installer and all should be fine. You should reboot after running avast clean and installing the new version.
I done that yesterday and got a message saying your pc has a problem and needs to restart.  I done that several times and still got the same message.  When I restarted my computer it showed automatic reparing windows. It shut down and I had to do a system restore so I won't uninstall the BEtA.

New version seemed to install okay using Avast Internet Security's built-in updater. However, I have run into an issue similar to MaxLV's (see quote below). When I booted my PC yesterday, Avast briefly displayed the firewall private/public selection pop-up for an "Unidentified Network". I opened the Avast interface to double-check which network the firewall thought it was connected to, and it reported the network name it normally assigns to my LAN.

As with MaxLV's report, Avast also seems to have created an extra firewall profile for a network that I have never used. There's an icon with a red "x" through it next to this profile in the settings menu:

Updated both my computers without problems...

But on checking all the new features, in the firewall, settings, it is now listing multiple network profiles. Before the update only two network profiles were listed in  firewall settings.

The new network profiles were all set to public, and I dont recognise any of them.

I have set them to private, but there's no longer any option to delete them like there was before the update.

What are these new network profiles, and why cant they be deleted?

All the unknown network profiles have a red x on the network profile icon so i guess this means they're not active or disabled in the Avast firewall.

I am the only user of these two computers.
Both computers have WiFi, and one has Bluetooth, But these options are not used and are turned off in Windows by default. I only turn these options on when I want to use them.
The computers are on a LAN via Ethernet.

@bob3160, will sort one out once I'm through with work. Obvs may not be able to get a grab of the "Unidentified Network" firewall popup, but y'all know what that looks like anyway.

Ran a scan with Avast after I noticed this unusual behaviour and it came back clear. I also rebooted my PC and didn't see the firewall popup a second time.

My naive assumption would be that this is something to do with the "improvements" to the firewall's network detection feature that @MartinZ mentioned.

It's annoying that the UI no longer appears to allow deletion of network profiles recorded by the firewall.

I unfortunately can't answer your concern about the firewall network profiles.
I only use the free version but am sure someone else will chime in who is familiar with your version.

As a result of the new software update, loaded today, I am unable to launch the UI of Avast. When I click on Restart Service, a new screen pops up and is immediately replaced by the Restart Service screen. I have rebooted 5 times with the same result.
Using a Surface Book with Windows 10 Pro, version 1803., 64-bit.
Have another Win 10 desktop computer 64-bit which was able to successfully run Avast after install.  Received the same error as above, but after rebooting 3 times it started correctly.

we work on the fix, it should be released by the end of this week

MartainZ, has the fix mentioned in your quoted post ever been applied.  I cannot find anywhere that the problem is now fixed.  I, like many others, are waiting for this fix before trying to migrate to the newest version of Avast.

Thank you very much.  I will run a manual update on my home PC and if all works out I will run the update on the other PCs that I support.

Thanks Bob again. I am having problems with the free version and trying now to update windows. I even tried the free version with without windows defender and it made no difference. There is no firewall showing for me in the free version as it is padlocked. If the windows update doesn't work then I'm taking my PC to a good shop I know to let them have a look at it.

The free version doesn't have a firewall. Defender turns itself off when you install another AV.
Since you have a paid version, you can get help directly from Avast: https://support.avast.com/en-us/contact/enter/paid_pc

 Hey;
 seem to have developed a new error with WiFi inspector;
 says network scan of 4052%, & was still scanning, (have heard of giving 110%, but 4000%,hmmmm)
 did repair & seemed to correct, gave couple minutes, but then came up with similar results;
 restarted & seems to be o.k. so far,
 does say WiFi & all devices are secure,
 so just minor error;
 attached is partial screen-grab, (prefer all my devices not to be visble on forums)

After updating to this new version (Avast! Free), I can no longer find any controls to set the scheduled scan date/time for a full scan. The Settings link under the Full Virus Scan (from Protection->Virus Scans) contains nothing about scheduling. There is also a clock icon under the Full Virus Scan panel, but it only shows when the scan will run - no controls for setting/changing it. This clock icon is not clickable - the scheduled scan time only appears in a pop-up which is also not clickable.

In previous versions, the scheduling controls were easily found and intuitive. Have these controls been hidden somewhere else or are they simply missing in this release? I think the scheduling settings have been missed and should have been part of the Settings menu tree.

We work on a new scheduling, it will be live in approx 2 weeks.

Now that we're past the "two weeks," do we have an ETA on the fix for this particular problem?

I really want to CHANGE the time of the daily scan I set in the previous version, which definitely carried over in the most recent version, 19.1.2360 (build 19.1.4142.454), but was programmed to be inaccessible.

I'm still scratching my head on this one.

So, ETA...anyone?
