Title: NEW Version: 19.1.2360
Post by: MartinZ on January 04, 2019, 11:01:41 AM
Happy New Year!
New stable version 19.1.2360 has just been released to celebrate the new year 2019! This version brings a lot of new features including full 64-bit version, new settings and more..

What's NEW:

- Simplicity! We’ve simplified our settings screens and even added direct links from our feature screens to their settings

- Search! We’ve added a search bar to our settings to make it easier to find what you need

- Speed! Users of 64-bit Windows should now see faster PC startup and scan times

- Automagic! After purchasing another Avast product from within your antivirus, the new product will now be installed and activated automatically — no activation code needed

- Security! Our Firewall’s network detection is now better than ever

What we FIXED:

- Firewall now runs properly (without a PC restart) for those who’ve upgraded from Avast Free Antivirus

- Boot-time scan results can now be found in your scan history

- Fixed improper arrangement in our Web Shield detection (threat type and URL were switched)

- Your settings can now be backed up and restored again

How to install:

1. Update from your existing Avast version via Settings -> Update -> Update program

2. Or you can download and install from here

As a result of the new software update, loaded today, I am unable to launch the UI of Avast. When I click on Restart Service, a new screen pops up and is immediately replaced by the Restart Service screen. I have rebooted 5 times with the same result.
Using a Surface Book with Windows 10 Pro, version 1803., 64-bit.
Have another Win 10 desktop computer 64-bit which was able to successfully run Avast after install.  Received the same error as above, but after rebooting 3 times it started correctly.

The install still want's to install SecureLine as part of Avast even though I'm running the standalone version
of Secure line. I thought this was being addressed ???

After a couple more reboots, Avast came up successfully.  Only additional action I performed prior to final reboot was to enable Windows Defender firewall for Domain, Private, and Public.  Probably had no impact on the Avast result, but just wanted to pass that on.

After updating to this new version (Avast! Free), I can no longer find any controls to set the scheduled scan date/time for a full scan. The Settings link under the Full Virus Scan (from Protection->Virus Scans) contains nothing about scheduling. There is also a clock icon under the Full Virus Scan panel, but it only shows when the scan will run - no controls for setting/changing it. This clock icon is not clickable - the scheduled scan time only appears in a pop-up which is also not clickable.

In previous versions, the scheduling controls were easily found and intuitive. Have these controls been hidden somewhere else or are they simply missing in this release? I think the scheduling settings have been missed and should have been part of the Settings menu tree.

This is just nonsense, a bug or avast bug almost unimportant.

In windows 7 64bits, before the threats a sound sounded. In fact it sounded so much in web detections, as when you did a scan and it was completed.

Well, now sounds no longer work.

I did the eicar test and it does not sound at all (and if the speakers are on, youtube sounds perfectly, and the avast sounds are activated).

Who else happens that avast no longer sounds. At least in my windows 7 do not sound neither threats nor full scans at all. And the sounds are activated in avast.

PS: This is in Avast Free 19.1.2360 (build 19.1.4142.0), with windows 7 professional 64bit.

The sound is silly but good, because the capture screens work well. And in fact for now everything works fine except for the sounds of Avast.

Avast 19.1.2360 performs superbly. It makes my ancient AMD Sempron 3000+ single core 1.8Gz powered Windows 7 (x64) system actually sprightly. That is how I describe the new Avast.

Avast is the only anti-malware for me.

If it makes a previously sluggish AMD Sempron 3000+ single core 1.8Gz powered Windows 7 (x64) system seem quick, it must be very good.

Well nice to see the stable version working  :)
Win10 sys no probl. at all, but win7 sys i needed to reinstall Avast IS because it kept blocking my ExpressVPN app  :o (even after a manual startup of the app)
Needed a fresh AIS install to get it working fine.

Is it correct that you can not change "network profiles" names anynore within the firewall settings (what stilll worked fine in the previous version Win10 and Win7 ?   ???    (would be a pitty).

Updated both my computers without problems...

But on checking all the new features, in the firewall, settings, it is now listing multiple network profiles. Before the update only two network profiles were listed in  firewall settings.

The new network profiles were all set to public, and I dont recognise any of them.

I have set them to private, but there's no longer any option to delete them like there was before the update.

What are these new network profiles, and why cant they be deleted?

All the unknown network profiles have a red x on the network profile icon so i guess this means they're not active or disabled in the Avast firewall.

I am the only user of these two computers.
Both computers have WiFi, and one has Bluetooth, But these options are not used and are turned off in Windows by default. I only turn these options on when I want to use them.
The computers are on a LAN via Ethernet.

Thanks for update.

Bugs:
- When I disable all shields, then i want enable it (in tray icon) it say 6 shields disabled (rootkit shield and exploit shield are probably counted).
- After enabling all shields (in tray icon) everything seems normal, except notification center says Rootkit and Exploit shield are disabled (still ticket in options).
- In new settings under shields -> PUP detection -> I set Automatic clean but in old settings is PUP detection unticked.

What I like:
- 64 bit version is much faster
- Full system scan show me what testing

What I don't like:
- New settings is absolutely awful. You can simplify settings, why not, but why in this dark background theme? Old settings has professional look and has much more things to set. Now we have 2x settings old and new. So if i unable set something i need use old (Clean test history for example).
- There is no Save or Cancel button in settings. If I missclick somewhere, it will be saved and I will not be protected. Please let user confirm changes by hit Save button.
- Old and new setting together. If you reworked settings, delete old. Seems like unfinished product.

 - New settings are too much confusing to me. I had to use old settings. I just need untick Avast email signature and tick PUP detection, but in new settings is somewhere hidden. Also new setting has no possibility clear test history.
It's often like that when there's change, you have to get used to it.
For email signature -> main shields -> configure the shield setting -> mail shield -> "add a signature to the end of sent emails"
For PUP detection -> virus scan -> each type of scan offers to tick or not the PUPs
also about PUPs : main shields -> what to do with -> PUP -> repair , ask or do nothing

Yes but in old settings when i hit PUP detection it was enabled in all shields and in all tests. So now i have to enable it in each test and shield separately. Anyway i don't see any single reason change settings. It was perfectly fine for many years.

Have a fruitful 2019

In previous version of avast free edition, 'What to do' setting for web shield includes 'block the website' (can't remember the exact wordings). Under the newest version, it looks like  'what to do' setting is grouped in a 'general direction' for all shields. However,  web shield is a little bit different from file shield or behaviour shield, it seems that 'fix the repair', 'move the file to the virus chest' are not the corresponding actions when web shield detects something wrong------in old version, it blocks the site immediately.

As a supplementary of facts, under 'Configure shield settings', for web shield, there is a function called 'Enable site blocking'.

What I like to ask is...

1. If I check the box 'Enable site blocking', is it an automatic action when web shield finds something wrong(like the previous version), or it only blocks those sites that I add in the 'blocked websites list"?

2. If the answer to question 1 is the latter one, what will web shield do when it detects some unsafe websites? How could I set its actions?

Thanks a lot.

v18
Quote
Hardened mode:
Moderate: blocks only files which have bad ratings or no rating at all. All other files are allowed to run.
Aggressive: only chosen files with known high ratings are allowed. All other files are prevented from running.

v19
Simply Hardened mode without settings. In what mode does this option work now?

I was just answering your question
Quote
but in new settings is somewhere hidden.
now, the tastes and colours.....some will prefer this new look where you can open and close the drawers to set a specific target, without putting all the settings together in the same tab.
Personally, I'm embarrassed to have in the same basket the reputation service, the taskbar icon, Cyber Capture, enhanced mode, PPI, silent mode, email signature,...following your reasoning why not add also language , rootkits, anti-exploit, self-defense, hardware support for virtualization,sounds,popups....avast becoming more and more versatile, I understand that there is a need to separate everything, otherwise it can become an empty mess, it's up to us to pick at the desired place like the email signatue in the mail agent , PUPs or not depending on the type of virus scan .

So before I update I have to know, should I expect any new processes running besides avastsvc.exe and avastui.exe. I dont use anything besides the three default shields and I really dont want more process running.

I also worry that automagic is more bloatware.

I tried using the old settings option, but there are no controls for scheduling scans there either. I stand by my original assessment that this is a mistake in 19.1.2360 - and from my perspective, a serious mistake. The scheduled scan feature has been around in every version of Avast! Free I've used over the past 10+ years except this one.

That's not what the Help says... plus this would be completely different from previous versions. Also, since I updated to this version, my previous schedule is still in effect - there's just no way to change it now. What good is the clock icon on the menu if all it does is show you when the scheduled scan will run if there is no way to change it?

Just to be clear, here is what my Virus Scan menu looks like. The Settings option does not have any controls for setting/changing the scheduled scan time and the clock icon only displays the "Run your scan daily at 3:00" text and is not clickable.

BTW - I tried doing a repair and several re-boots with no change to this behavior.

That's not what the Help says...
What does it say? Where? Online help? Help with the latest version or general help?

However, you're right, (I just tried it) I don't understand why the settings don't allow you to do a complete scheduled scan without having to go through a custom scan where you have to redo everything.

Hopefully avast can fix this and they didn't voluntarily delete it as they deleted the fast scan.

Hi, you can use the old settings in troubleshooting (for now).

No we cant troubleshooting and the 'old settings' option.

There is no option anywhere in this new version to modify existing scheduled scans, or to set up new scheduled scans. How did this major flaw slip past the testing team at avast???? How long will it take them to fix it. Will they even fixed it!

I didn't pay good money to Avast just to have them release such a flawed update, it seems like they've been taking lessons from Microsoft that it's OK to release flawed software for users to find the bugs.

Just installed this and Input Director, the application I use to control my secondary computer using the same mouse and keyboard, no longer functions without completely disabling Avast.

Input Director uses my private wifi connection to allow this kind of connection between my two systems.

^^^ This is their site. If you could please analyze this issue, and help create a method where software which leverages the same resources can be selectively "Allowed"

I guess it will take days to fix it.... as during December 2017 (https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=212301.0)
Where can I download previous Avast setup offline version (18.x stable version) ?

The new version wrecked my test pc. The system partition got corrupted. I have a multi boot test PC and first I tried the new update of Avast on a Win8.1-32 OS. At reboot Windows says cannot load user profile. It booted with a blank desktop. At next reboots the Boot menu or the manufacturers Start Logo was not shown anymore. Just a black screen.
Tried repairing Start up with Win 8.1 and Win10 installation disk/USB. They couldn't repair. A fresh Installation of Win10 wouldn't reboot either.

The only solution I found, happily, restoring the System partition from an old backup. But the menu choices didn't work: No OS was bootable.
Then I installed a fresh Win10 on an available partition, and that did work this time. Next I added all OS's of the multi boot PC to the boot menu and now they all work again. I don't dare to update Avast again for the first months....

AND why is the current year 2018 in the captcha?

Avast Free Offline installer is not working on 2 Win 10 laptops so far when installed over existing avast 18.8.2356. When I restore from image backup, the live program update from the v18.8 GUI is (apparently) successful although I haven't yet found my old custom scans or a way to recreate them.

The offline installer results eventually in a product that will not run Avast service, so the GUI fails to start with a "Well, this is embarrassing" message. The entire sequence goes like:
>Run offline installer, custom install same components as v18.8 (about half of what's available)
>Reboot when instructed
>Run GUI, Software Updater shows Error w/Refresh button that does nothing, Smart scan hangs @33%, Wi-Fi Inspector hangs @0%
>Reboot again
>Try GUI again, get "Won't start" and Retry button does nothing.
>In Task Manager window, Avast installer comes and goes, same with Emergency updater, but eventually Avast service fails

Both systems are Win 10 v1809 with all current patches. Curious whether other failed installations have used the Offline installer.

If you're having a problem after an update, first try rebooting the system.
It may m=need to be restarted more than once.
If that doesn't help, try the following:
Repair & Clean Install of Avast https://goo.gl/t7aJGq

OK so it is still there...

At least five mouse clicks to get to it in the custom scan option, and by the strange non intuitive option to click on a cog icon, and selecting settings...

That hardly user friendly for such an 'essential' function is it. Why did they decide to 'bury' it like this?

At least my previous scheduled weekly scan setting 'survived' the update, but no notification was issued in the notifications 'bell' after the scheduled weekly full scan completed last night (on both computers)

A good stable release.

I'm happy you are now able to see the files which are being scanned when a full scan is in progress. This ensures that users will not think the scan is stuck anymore.

The default automatic option when a scan is ran is : Repair > Virus Chest > Delete File. Why is there no option for No Action or Ask the user before the delete action? The same process could apply for the Core Shields. If there was a false positive...

The scans are set to generate a report file which will be located at C:/Program Files/Avast/Reports - there is no such location and running a scan doesn't create the path.

It is no longer possible to see when the last streaming update was received through the user interface. You were previously able to go to the Update section and it would be there...

If the Real Site component is not installed, it should not show up in Settings.

I see no reason why the option to Schedule Scans have been changed. I know you can create a custom scan and then create a schedule but why change it when it was fine before? The Quick Scan is still able to be scheduled via Custom Scans and so should the others.

There is no longer a voice when a threat has been detected. The sound is still there and I'm not sure if that has been done intentionally?

It would be nice to see the Ransomware Shield to protect "txt" file extensions by default.

Edit: Fixed typo.

Zone Alarm Firewall has been known to cause problems.
If you intend to go back to Avast, you'll also need to totally remove ZA AV.
You can get the tool from here: https://www.techsupportall.com/zonealarm-uninstall-tool/

That's nothing we've ever seen (and the internal handling of exclusions hasn't changed AFAIK, just the UI).
So - what exactly are your exclusions, what program crashes (and when)?

but a lot of new ones :mainly in the " troubleshooting " tab (delay avast startup, still having problems? Back-up your avast settings, prevent malware from .... , provide extra protection ....,allow you to use,...) , and in "virus scan" : your report file will be automatically ......

While the new update looks great and seems to use less computer resources, which also is good.

But.. Avast has starting killing my games, i try to run a steam game, Avast flag it as a virus and kills it.
same game never had any issues before the update, and while this is an Early Access game things like this shouldn't happen.

i tried adding my entire steam folder under exceptions, did not help.
added the game itself in exceptions, did not help.

changed settings to "Ask before doing anything", it still kept killing and deleting the game .exe

is there a way to downgrade the version?
i've used Avast for many years, but if it's starting to kill my games i'll rather remove Avast and install something else tbh.

Best regards
Zangiry

That's the bug, but all you've to do is end the ASB session (close the browser) and start a new one and there it is again.....  Same steps again to re-enable every time...

Maybe because you can't have "advanced threat detection" unless you enable "Behavior Shield".

You can customize any scan under Virus Scans  "Custom scans" settings.

This new version of Avast is preventing me from logging into an MMORPG.  Because X-Trap thinks it's a corrupted operating system file.  So I had to revert back to the last version to able to access the game.

Received the same error as above, but after rebooting 3 times it started correctly.

we work on the fix, it should be released by the end of this week

Well nice to see the stable version working  :)
Win10 sys no probl. at all, but win7 sys i needed to reinstall Avast IS because it kept blocking my ExpressVPN app  :o (even after a manual startup of the app)
Needed a fresh AIS install to get it working fine.

Is it correct that you can not change "network profiles" names anynore within the firewall settings (what stilll worked fine in the previous version Win10 and Win7 ?   ???    (would be a pitty).
good point, thank you. it shouldn't be difficult to fix

Thanks for feedback
- we will check the enabling shields, I tried it and the exploit and rootkit shields got started after few minutes..need to investigate why
- PUP detections are now on different checkboxes for scans and for shields, that's why not synced
- old settings will be removed after few weeks. the new ones aren't finished yet. still working on custom scans and geek section where will be more advanced settings
- dark color is to match with the rest of the app

Anyone else experiencing during a full scan it sometimes getting seemingly like stuck at a certain percentage, like 71 or 86 percent, but eventually finishes.    I briefly tried Windows Defender in Windows 10 a month ago (don't worry clean install done so shouldn't be any tweaks of that still enabled I hope,

I got convinced by another forum where folks was saying my PC problem I had was related to Avast, remove it and your system will be better--Wrong)  seems slower in games at least with Defender activated, not sure about anything else

Should I remove Avast Free, and attempt clean install, updated via gui from 18.8 version

Hi, thanks for feedback
- the option to not make any action scan is there, just uncheck the checkbox "Perform automatic actions during scan", for shields select Ask for what to do with Viruses at the top tab
- report path will be fixed
- voice for detection is gone for long time, now there is just jingle

recently tried this version for a few days
I think it's heavier than than version last year
I don't like the new setting UI. I think the old one is easier to tweak

in the new UI, there is no way to enable PUP protection. It's only possible when opened the old UI in troubleshooting menu

Yes you can via the Protection tab, see attached

Regarding the feedback about scheduling scans, please look at the beta, there is already  a new screen for creating custom scan with schedule. Scheduling existing scan would work just for Full System Scan, that's the reason why we moved this option to custom scans..

Avast anti-spam toolbar in Ms outlook 2010 now missing after latest update;
Again after another avast premier update Jan 4 2019, I have lost my anti-spam (white list/ black list ) tool bar.
in the past when this happens I would usually completely uninstall avast premier, as well as the registry to retrieve it. and then reinstall.
However, after this last update, no go.
I ensure the anti-spam component is installed and the splash screen is ticked on.
I try to activate the add-in in the coms, but it still remains inactive... very frustrating.

I also lost bank mode in the secure browser, and had to reinstall it but no go.

Please advise,

I'll do it later on today.  The problem is the company that makes "X-Trap" has an old version our server has the "10.2016_2518" X-Trap version and the company refuses to update the security software.  So their tech support is pretty much useless.   What I don't get it.  Why is Avast out of nowhere getting blocked with X-Trap?  Every version I used since 2007 hasn't been blocked by X-Trap or I had to add the game folder to the exclusion list and now it's completely blocked.

Exclusion (imported from previous version) don't work any more and bring a Windows crash on some programs excluded !!! >:(
Win 7 64 bits french (updated with the internal system - Avast free version)

Any fix coming ?

That's nothing we've ever seen (and the internal handling of exclusions hasn't changed AFAIK, just the UI).
So - what exactly are your exclusions, what program crashes (and when)?
These are two program widgets (DXWidget.exe) build with Stardock DeskopX (and running since years and years) and crashing now on boot now... did a roll back to previous Avast free and everything's going right way !!!!

Question on Behavior shield Advanced Threat protection, if data sharing with 3rd parties is off,  do we still have protection from Advanced Threats?   Or does it specifically require it to be on for it to function in Avast Free Version?

Concerned over this deeply, as not sure on sharing data with 3rd parties, usually always switch that off

Right , exceptions tab also "Choose specific files, folders or ....." not translated or some other buttons like "see more" , "open old settings" , "view exceptions"
about translations : Okay for these.

but a lot of new ones :mainly in the " troubleshooting " tab (delay avast startup, still having problems? Back-up your avast settings, prevent malware from .... , provide extra protection ....,allow you to use,...) , and in "virus scan" : your report file will be automatically ......
Hello,
still no change  :-[
Last week's translations came through a VPS update, would it be different here.

I dont like the new add exception setup, Before I could just as exceptions to the Sheild and sheild  only so as scans would still scan those folders, now the exceptions is for everything, so If i add my games folders to exceptions the shield dont scan my  game as I use them it also make system scan out right ingore those folders too. I DO NOT like that that please bring be exceptions for the shield

bob3160 I already tried a clean install like you suggested and multiple restarts like someone else suggested. But the UI Failed to Load and the daily six or more shut downs of Avast on it's own and then it trying to restart persisted as well. That's when I went back and installed ver 17 with the program updates set to manual so it would not update to a newer version and I am now having zero problems. But being stuck on problem free ver 17 is not the solution I want. I want the Avast programmers to get these glitches, buggs or whatever out of the updates.

Do you have Avast Firewall installed?

- Which version of paid Avast..?  (Avast Free antivirus does not have a firewall)
- OS..? (32/64 Bit..? - which SP/Build..?)
- Other security related software installed..?
- Which AV(s) did you use before Avast..?

I'm using Avast Premier 19.1.2360. In the previous version I could authorize internet connection sharing but that option disappeared...

Open Menu>Settings>Troubleshooting.  Scroll down to 'Old Settings' link.  Navigate from there to the setting you want.

19.1's new gui is a work in progress which is why the old settings are still available.  Set firewall to 'Private'.

This version is great but sometimes I am getting "The online content is unavailable" when running a smart scan.
Strange. I have a very good internet connection. I also run a computer consulting business and recommend Avast Free Antivirus to my clients and I use it myself. I have used the Avast uninstall utility Avast clear whilst in safe mode on my computer, reinstalled Avast with a clean copy and also used the repair method.
Have been using this software for a few years now and this has only been occurring of and on with the release of the newest version.
My clients have seen this as well whilst running the smart scan.
Doesn't happen with a full scan.
I have also submitted the bug through feedback.
I am really enjoying using Avast and for a free Avast antivirus program it is EXCELLENT and has very good protection.

WAG is that "The online content is unavailable" has to do with running Avast SecureLine feature.  ASL will say that when it encounters an internet connectivity issue.

Do a Custom Install of Avast and remove features you don't need or want, especially if you are running the Free version.  Reboot.

Already have done that and the issue still persists.
Not all the time, but, occasionally.
My internet connection works very, very well.  ;)
Submitted another ticket with respect to that issue.
IMHO it's definitely a bug. Not a major annoyance though.  :)

Just tried another custom install after using Avast clear in safe mode.
Re-installed a fresh copy of Avast free antivirus and not seeing the issue at the moment.
Tried this on my home computer and five other clients computers.
Good to see that they are working on this bug issue.
GREAT JOB to the team at Avast!  :D

Silent fix will run if you've allowed AvastEmUpdate.exe to run on boot; also instup.exe must be allowed to run and you are connected to the internet.

Reboot is all you need to do if both conditions are valid and both are allowed to run on boot.  If not, you'll need to allow them to run.

There isn't an on or off switch for these. If you turned them off, you would have had to either delete them or blocked them.

Since that bridge has already been crossed, its on your system you have two choices:
1.  leave it,
2.  Uninstall it as you threatened " :o I'm so ready to uninstall Avast."

@bob3160  Why would I want to do that?  I would still get the latest version wouldn't I ?

The question already posed by myself "So its happened, why would you want to uninstall avast"
If you aren't having problems (and you haven't mentioned any) other than it having updated itself.

If you download the full off-line installation file when you know one is available and save it, you then have a fallback position to uninstall and use the off-line installation file to get back to the last version.  Either that or do what we have suggested on many occasions, do regular system backups so you can go back.

So it was perfectly installed, you uninstalled it and now you're having problems? Why didn't you just leave alone after it updated?
At this point I'd suggest you do a Clean Install of Avast:

You installed the wrong one or you were on the Beta Channel before. Run the Avast Clean tool to completely remove Avast. Then use this link:  http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe .. and download the full offline installer for Avast Free AV ... Run the installer and all should be fine. You should reboot after running avast clean and installing the new version.

Hello.

I am at my wits end with Avast and Avast support. I have done a clean re-install of Avast premier which didn't work, done god knows how many updates and repairs but still have the same problem. My shields keep switching off or don't start. I even uninstalled Avast premier and used Avast free version and had shield problems but at least the free version allowed me internet access. When I then put my licence code in and changed that to the Premier version I don't always have internet access with it so something in Avast Premier is blocking it. Avast used to be so good but now it is rubbish with these ongoing problems.

Contacted support who were frankly a waste of time and only said I'd done the right thing with a clean re-install. They didn't give me any help whatsoever or explain why I'd had these problems. My machine is clean having done 2 system scans and a boot up scan and nothing has shown up. I am on windows 10 64 bit. All my drivers are up to date as well.

If anyone can help me I'd be really grateful. If giving me any instructions please explain fully what I need to do. I am PC literate but might not have the same knowledge as you. Thankyou.

The other thing that you can try is to disable the Avast Firewall. You'll still be protected by the firewall that's part of Windows just as you are now in the free version of Avast. Your problem is definitely in the firewall settings since with the free version you aren't having any problems.

I done that yesterday and got a message saying your pc has a problem and needs to restart.  I done that several times and still got the same message.  When I restarted my computer it showed automatic reparing windows. It shut down and I had to do a system restore so I won't uninstall the BEtA.

New version seemed to install okay using Avast Internet Security's built-in updater. However, I have run into an issue similar to MaxLV's (see quote below). When I booted my PC yesterday, Avast briefly displayed the firewall private/public selection pop-up for an "Unidentified Network". I opened the Avast interface to double-check which network the firewall thought it was connected to, and it reported the network name it normally assigns to my LAN.

As with MaxLV's report, Avast also seems to have created an extra firewall profile for a network that I have never used. There's an icon with a red "x" through it next to this profile in the settings menu:

@bob3160, will sort one out once I'm through with work. Obvs may not be able to get a grab of the "Unidentified Network" firewall popup, but y'all know what that looks like anyway.

Ran a scan with Avast after I noticed this unusual behaviour and it came back clear. I also rebooted my PC and didn't see the firewall popup a second time.

My naive assumption would be that this is something to do with the "improvements" to the firewall's network detection feature that @MartinZ mentioned.

It's annoying that the UI no longer appears to allow deletion of network profiles recorded by the firewall.

Received the same error as above, but after rebooting 3 times it started correctly.

we work on the fix, it should be released by the end of this week

MartainZ, has the fix mentioned in your quoted post ever been applied.  I cannot find anywhere that the problem is now fixed.  I, like many others, are waiting for this fix before trying to migrate to the newest version of Avast.

Thanks Bob again. I am having problems with the free version and trying now to update windows. I even tried the free version with without windows defender and it made no difference. There is no firewall showing for me in the free version as it is padlocked. If the windows update doesn't work then I'm taking my PC to a good shop I know to let them have a look at it.

The free version doesn't have a firewall. Defender turns itself off when you install another AV.
Since you have a paid version, you can get help directly from Avast: https://support.avast.com/en-us/contact/enter/paid_pc

 Hey;
 seem to have developed a new error with WiFi inspector;
says network scan of 4052%, & was still scanning, (have heard of giving 110%, but 4000%,hmmmm)
 did repair & seemed to correct, gave couple minutes, but then came up with similar results;
restarted & seems to be o.k. so far,
does say WiFi & all devices are secure,
 so just minor error;
attached is partial screen-grab, (prefer all my devices not to be visble on forums)

We work on a new scheduling, it will be live in approx 2 weeks.

Now that we're past the "two weeks," do we have an ETA on the fix for this particular problem?

I really want to CHANGE the time of the daily scan I set in the previous version, which definitely carried over in the most recent version, 19.1.2360 (build 19.1.4142.454), but was programmed to be inaccessible.

I'm still scratching my head on this one.

So, ETA...anyone?

I just encountered a new problem between Avast Free and Firefox Quantum 65.0. When Firefox updated from version 64 to 65, I could no longer go to https websites (security issue). After a good amount of research, I found that this has happened in the past. I also found that the conflict was between the Avast Web Shield and Firefox. The temporary solution was to uncheck the "Enable the HTTPS Scanning" box. Since this only occurred on the new version of Firefox, I assume that Mozilla changed something in their security.

Hi, everyone. I am experiencing an issue after updating my Avast Free Antivirus to the latest version 19.1.2360

I have first experienced this problem after I installed the latest version about 12 days ago.

As soon as it was installed, I thought I'd do a scan of the system. I started the scan and then when it reached around 70%, it looked like the computer froze. Well, it didn't freeze, but when I finally managed to open the Task Manager I saw that memory usage was at 99%.
Finally, after some 20 minutes I managed to reach the 'Shut Down' button and restart my computer.

Things were okay for a few days, but then the same thing happened last Wednesday morning. I didn't have to use the computer so I decided to wait it out. It lasted about an hour and then my memory consumption dropped down from 99% back to 30% and everything went back to normal.
The same thing happened today at I guess the same time - Wednesday morning.

I have searched through this topic and found some similar complaints:

since the update avast uses 100% of my hard drive for no reason

Anyone else experiencing during a full scan it sometimes getting seemingly like stuck at a certain percentage, like 71 or 86 percent, but eventually finishes.    I briefly tried Windows Defender in Windows 10 a month ago (don't worry clean install done so shouldn't be any tweaks of that still enabled I hope,

I got convinced by another forum where folks was saying my PC problem I had was related to Avast, remove it and your system will be better--Wrong)  seems slower in games at least with Defender activated, not sure about anything else

Those two seem like similar problems to mine.

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, 4GB RAM

And also, when I open the task manager there is nothing on the processes tab that is consuming that much memory.

Last week I posted about Avast adding extra firewall profiles for networks that I have never used. Another User, @MaxLV, also mentioned this issue.

@Bob3160 asked me to provide a screenshot, which I have attached to this message. The image shows 3 saved firewall profiles.

So what gives? Is the issue that MaxLV and I are experiencing a bug related to 19.1.2360, or is it something more sinister?

My avast is not working at all after the last update. I cannot open it, uninstall it, or repair it. I was enjoying the password saving feature but none of that will work anymore. When I try to uninstall it a message says installer is working please try setup again later. Feeling frustrated!

1. Download the offline installer of the current version of Avast
2. Download the Avast removal tool: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avastclear.exe
Now run avastclear and follow it's directions which will switch you into safe mode.
After the system reboots, install Avast from the program you downloaded in step 1
Again reboot after the install. You should now be back in business.

I also use the same username and password when I sign into Avast in the clean install that I used in the old install.

I really want to CHANGE the time of the daily scan I set in the previous version, which definitely carried over in the most recent version, 19.1.2360 (build 19.1.4142.454), but was programmed to be inaccessible.

I'm still scratching my head on this one.

So, ETA...anyone?

According to MartinZ, the fix for this was in beta and would be released by now (see next MartinZ message « Reply #210 on: January 29, 2019, 05:25:25 PM »). Unfortunately, this problem still persists in 19.2.2364 and I have noted such in that thread.

Still waiting for a fix for this.  ::)

A statement was also made that the default custom scan start out with the same settings as the full scan.
To me, that means you can use the custom scan and use that to schedule a scan.
I personally hardly ever use the scans since once I know my system is clean, Avast checks everything I open, add or in any other way use.

Ok but please read what Shayna said because it is happening to me too... I can't find the scheduled full scan I've set in previous version. It executes by itself but if I want to change it, there's no way to do it 'cause I can't see where it is.

@ Silvasan,

Essentially what I think happened to you was that an upgrade of the old version prior was done, and not a clean install.  An upgrade would. of course, carry-over any/all old settings to the newest version, as well as most program features.

Unfortunately, Avast is now in the middle of changing the GUI appearance and functions in the latest version, and some settings are lost for now, such as the ability to modify old scan settings.  Some scheduled scans are still included, tho, by clicking a link to Old Settings.

The only way to really know what you are going to get ahead of time is to temporarily install a BeTA Avast version, where proposed GUI and program settings are tested out before the main program release is done.  Most users cannot be bothered with testing changes in a possibly buggy release, but can follow the testing process in the BeTA section of Avast Forums if they wish.  There is no expectation for users to actually install.

You have two options as I see it:

Honestly, I've found that, over time, a clean install is always better in the long run.  The fact is, old version files needed to run Avast are removed, and new ones are put in their place and issues such as yours are minimised.  It also means all old settings are removed and you can start fresh.

My recommendation is to do a clean install.

Hopefully they will make the User Interface nicer and better to read. That black background is terrible.
If you do decide to do a clean install, be sure to backup your settings for the exclusions and such. If
you don't then you will need to reenter them or reselect them when you do a clean reinstall.

Saving settings (whilst for most of us would be best practice) may not be ideal for Silvasan and others who have old avast version scan settings, which the new UI does not support going forward. So they have settings they cannot then alter.
Is this really true even with "old Settings" still available?

I'm not entirely sure that is entirely correct.  Default settings are just that, but having change the defaults then these would have to be stored somewhere, possibly in one of the .ini files.  In which case I feel that they are likely to be retained and saved in 'Back up settings' (save settings).

You have two options as I see it:
  • You can do a clean install of avast.  Uberevangelist bob3160 has posted several times here on the Avast Forums on how to do that, and has linked several youtube videos he has made on how to best proceed.
  • You can wait for the next build number to be released.

That's right I've upgraded the version. well Avast has done it when the new version was available.  Thanks for the recommendation but  I think they should have foreseen all the situations.

Thanks  anyway!  I'll do it in the next formatting.
