Go to Program files > Avast Software > Avast
Once there, find and Run
AvEmUpdate.exe
Restart your computer after the update has finished.

Hello,
arf  :-\ updated , rebooted , installed avast firewall I have removed last week , used PIA (open vpn based) but BSOD again with my first W7 64bits.
Will try on the 2nd.

I started to have BSoD everytime I turned on my PIA with the new Jan 2019 avast update. I use premier Avast and PIA.  To solve this issue, I uninstalled avast and installed the older avast 2018. It worked fined. But Avast kept automatically updating itself, then the BSoD was back again. So i had to reinstall 2018 avast all over again and set to no update and manual update. But avast still kept automatically updating after few day. So far avast manual update has not been working.
You also use PIA , please let me know if issue gone for you.

Chris,
Do a clean install.

If your Avast settings are not the default settings and you want them restored after the Clean Install, follow this before removing Avast.

it's solved now.
I remembered the answer from PIA support last week.
It was necessary to reinstall the PIA VPN app (and so the openVPN adapter , TAP driver).....to save changes made by avast to kernel libraries
No need to re-install avast  ;)

My Vypr VPN still doesn't work, same Windows stop error 0x7F.  But - WhoCrashed said before that an Avast Firewall driver was probably causing the crash - whereas this time WhoCrashed claims a driver belonging to OpenVPN ("tap0901.sys") is the cause.

My Avast build is 19.2.4186.429, which I guess is the newly fixed version.  Upon everyone reporting back the good news of smooth sailing, I tried these steps:

Uninstalled my Vypr VPN service and app.
Installed the Avast Firewall component that I had uninstalled some days ago.
Manually initiated Avast to check for Program Updates and Virus Definition Updates.
Restarted Windows for extra good luck.
Reinstalled Vypr VPN, latest version (same version that originally participated in these crashes, though).
Attempted to connect to a VPN server:  BSOD.

I ran the Avast Support Tool again, in case anyone will want this.  Its file ID is UM5KX.
