Upgraded via Avast 7 not long ago. All running okay for now and all the settings which I tweaked are there. No conflict with the Comodo Firewall so far. Thank you.

When I was using V8 with Comodo Firewall I couldn't get any streaming updates. Do you get them?

Is this a issue on server side!?

Everything is smooth here..Everytime I invoke the update in v8 it says up to date then it says v7 is latest.  ???

Edit: this situation was resolved after a repair from control panel.

... I think the Internet Security download link is corrupt. Each time I install it, it gives an error. I've downloaded it 3 different times now and cleared my cache.

Just upgraded to the final and it's working fine so far!

Has the uninstall tool been updated as well on the old location?

Btw...for any interested DE users...we translated the releases notes for 8.0.1482 in German language (http://forum.avadas.de/threads/5193-avast!-8-0-1482-Final).

Windows 7 64-Bit here. Streaming updates are enabled but how do you check for sure if you get them? Any specific log?

Updated to 8.0.1482 this morning. So far all ok on Windows XP P4 @ 1.8Ghz and 512MB RAM
I do not use the browser plug-ins and I check for updates myself to most programs.
The new interface is somewhat "Bland" ... we need a couple of skins to pick from.
Also the update did not carry over my Exclusions List .. I had to redo them manually.
Otherwise, it seems fine.

Yes still showing RTM build 8.0.1481 as already up to date, have tried a few times, but still no joy.

I have been able to get the program update from my win7 netbook that was on the avast 7.0.1474, now I didn't get the usual update screen, where I was able to do a custom update and I ended up with browser cleanup, software updater and Ad Blocker that I wouldn't have installed on a pre-selection.

It had the winpatrol plus crash again but much earlier in the game, but again when asking about new startup entries.

My XP system with avast 8 RTM is still reporting up to date.

updated by auto mode from 7.0 without SafeZone (I didnt install it, because didnt use it) to 8.0

Problems:
- launch the browser in a sandbox does not work
- Sandbox Settings are not saved

it's because I did not install the SafeZone or?

win7x64

Both my Sandbox and Safezone are working fine. However I did a clean install. The safezone and sandbox are 2 different components so I doubt not selecting the safezone would effect the sandbox.

Ok, I installed new version via Avast 7 update. It works well. To be honest, old GUI was better for me!

Just want to clarify something, regarding Software Updater. From Avast new Website, I noticed that this option is in Premium only version. I have Avast IS and it is active! ::)
Second, inside Software Updater I see 6 software in monitoring status. Where are the others?! I've more than 6! ::)

Sooo ... in a nutshell, will the Browser Cleaner Tool, Software Updater and AdBlock be included in the FREE version?  If so, will I be prompted during install as to whether I want to install each of them individually?

Or are these perks only for the bigger gun / paid versions of avast?

Hello, not sure if u can disable the whole thing, but what u can do atleast is go into the GUI, under software updater. For each program in the list, u can select ignore.

Yes you can used Comodo Firewall next to Avast Free as the Avast firewall in not included in the free unless you're ready to activated means are you ready to buy the Avast Internet Security (AIS) as a full complete version.

Edit:- Thanks Pavels for the update version as I had to do a complete clean installed of Avast Free.

Hi,

I found a issue where after installing Avast IS RTM 8, the CPU sits at its maximum frequency and wont drop down to save power, also the power options to change the min and max cpu in the control panel are missing. Once I uninstall avast the CPU options are back and the CPU frequency is dynamic again? =)

By frequency I mean 2.3GHz but 0% cpu usage. Where normally it would drop to 1.3GHz.

I have the same problem. My brother too.

Since installation Avast 8, the frequency of my processor is always at most. Without Avast 8, the frequency of my processor decreased when it was not used a lot.

Please fix it ;)

Hi, please try modified version of aswVmm driver (64 bit Windows only):
http://www2.avast.com/files/aswvmm/x64/aswvmm.zip

1) Disable Avast! self defense
2) Replace aswVmm.sys in Windows\System32\Drivers directory with downloaded version
3) Enable self defense again
4) Reboot

After reboot dynamic CPU clocking should be back,  It should also fix missing L1/L2/L3 cache info

Just installed avast free 8.0.1482, nut I had some problems.

First, I tried installing over 7.0.1474 via porgram updater. Then I rebooted, get to login screen, and machine instantly reboots (cant login to windows). I had to use system restore to revert back to 7.0.1474, uninstall it and boot to safe mode, and then clean avast remnants.

In other words, I had to clean install for version 8.0.1482. Lets hope I dont get this very annoying "login problem" no more!

Anyway to disable the software updater by default?  I have to tell it to stop manually on every restart.  I monitor my own stuff and don't need Avast telling me.
Try...Control Panel>Programs and Features/uninstall>double click "avast">click "change>untick "Software Updater">reboot  :)
There are good qualities to do a custom install.  :)

Earlier in the beta forum someone from Avast stated they would have some kind of offer for current AIS license holders to be able to upgrade to Premier. I have yet to see the offer and the above link does not answer my question.

Hi, please try modified version of aswVmm driver (64 bit Windows only):
http://www2.avast.com/files/aswvmm/x64/aswvmm.zip

1) Disable Avast! self defense
2) Replace aswVmm.sys in Windows\System32\Drivers directory with downloaded version
3) Enable self defense again
4) Reboot

After reboot dynamic CPU clocking should be back,  It should also fix missing L1/L2/L3 cache info

This modified driver fixed problems with CPU (dynamic clocking and cache info), also fixed problem with not working DXVA.

There is still problem in Task Manager/Performance/CPU:
with Avast 8: "Virtualization: Not capable"
without Avast 8: "Virtualization: Enabled"

System:
Windows 8 Pro x64, Phenom II x4 940, Radeon 5850 (Catalyst 13.1).

Congratulations on the new Avast 8 release, Avast team! You guys are excellent. The new feature list looks quite good.

I am excited to try out the new release, but I will hold off for a while. I like to wait for a while to see if there are any major issues with the new versions. Hopefully, there will not be any, and I will get to update to new version soon. And even if there are any, I am sure you guys will sort it out soon enough.

I was very curious to see the new interface, and I was not able to find any screenshots anywhere. Maybe you could post screenshots somewhere? I was finally able to see the new interface from the manual.. and it looks great!

Had a question. Will Browser Cleanup Tool included as a new module in Avast 8, will be available as a separate tool? I saw it listed in the store, but when I clicked to download it, it provides a 93MB file named as free antivirus. Is that a mistake? Surely the tool can't be that big  ;D

Keep up the excellent work Avast team. Many congratulations. And also many thanks for keeping our systems safe. Keep rocking!

Will report back when I install new Avast 8 on my new Windows 8  :D

Hi,

Hello, had the same issue, those instructions fixed it.

-->

I have the same problem. My brother too.

Since installation Avast 8, the frequency of my processor is always at most. Without Avast 8, the frequency of my processor decreased when it was not used a lot.

Please fix it ;)

I did a clean install and rebooted, i have tried disabling all shields but the problem is still there, only solution is uninstalling v8. ATI 4830 here.

2. Need the ability to add filters  for multiple languages in AdBlocker

Since v5.0 honestly. A user has the option to run multiple scan at the same time. The only down-side is that it may slow down your system.  8)

Hello AVAST users!

avast! 8 is now ready! The build number is 8.0.1482.

We introduce following major changes:
* New edition - avast! Premier
* Software Health module
* Browser Cleanup tool
* New User Interface
* Data Shredder (Premier only)
* AccessAnywhere (Premier only)
* Improved Autosandbox/Sandbox technlogy
* Improved General AV performance and stability

What about the AdBlocker? No mention of it?

Activated the Add Blocker in AIS, in Chrome's extensions window it is disabled. Click enable, goes disabled immediately.

I have the Adblock Plus extension installed and active in Chrome, if I disable Adblock Plus, the Avast Add blocker stays activated. If I reactivate Adblock Plus, the Avast Add Blocker is immediately disabled.

Is it Chrome, Avast Add Blocker, or Adblock Plus?

No the key should be good for avast 8 also, provided it is a legit license.

Though this doesn't appear to be a good deal, currently if you had avast 8 free installed and used the market link a 3 PC license id only £24.99. I don't know if htis is a specific offer with discount from the free version.

I've updated both machines in my signature today from AIS 7.0.1474 to AIS 7.0.1482 via the AvastUI.  On both machines, it imported my settings and registration.  I've done Quick and Full scans (Win7 Full scan in progress now).  All went well, along with browsing and other internet programs.  If anything, AIS 8 seems faster than AIS7 on browsing.  I'm still getting used to the new interface; finding out where some of the items have been moved.  To be fair, I'll withhold judgement on the interface changes until I've totally (Is that possible?) familiarized myself.  Sometimes, though, I just have to ask myself why there.  It is what it is.

Overall, and especially with all the changes, Good Job, Avast. ;D

There is no reason to "untick" any scan as having a default scan is a good thing. I have the quick scan as my default.
All a user needs to do is GUI>Anti-Virus>Scan Now, if they don't want to start a default scan. Any user has at their discretion the ability to select which scan they want as a default scan. A user may, if they so desire, create a custom scan and use that as their default scan. It's something new and positive with v8.0.xxxx and I like that. It's just that avast has pre-selected the quick scan as a default because it's the quickest scan available.  8)

edit: If the user fails to select a default scan avast automatically selects the quick scan. No matter what there will be a default scan.  :)

In the middle of running a FULL SCAN (AVAST! 8 FREE). In last rel ver of AVAST! (7.xxx), the values for TESTED FILES/FOLDERS were properly updated during the scan. In V8, the FOLDERS value is "stuck" at 1 though MANY folders (and over 14GB worth of data) have been scanned at this point .

Yes, this is because of the new option "Speed up scanning by reading files in the order they are store in disk" (scan settings -> Performance page). What this basically does it that it doesn't care about the folder structure - jumping back and forth between various folders. So counting the number of folders scanned so far is kind of useless - and thus, we don't display it during the scan.

Thanks

VLK: Thanks, that wasn't obvious.

I noticed as the scan got near the end (~last 2% or so), the the folder count appeared as a value other than 1 (~7730 in my case). I guess it has something to do with it then knowing how many folders there are at that point.

Hi, I did a search and didn't find and matching results.  After updating to v8, the "Scan from Explorer" context menu option, has the "Test Whole Files" selected under sensitivity and it won't let me disable it.  When I disable it and click ok, it goes back to being checked when I open the settings again.  Is anyone else having this problem? This is causing some large files to be scanned very slowly.  Thanks.

Well, that's not fully correct ;)
The folders are actually processed with this new option as well - e.g. to check for malicious alternate data streams.
It's just that in the current sorting they are processed last, after all the files - so you'll see "0 folders" till the very end of the scan, and then suddenly all the folders are done/counted.

I've unchecked it during 'Custom' install on a customer's machine today so I presume you can remove it via 'Change' option.

Sorry kids but install with caution. I have 3 older (circa 1-1998 and 2-2002) computers.  2 of the 3 are now having problems booting.  I am currently in safe-mode on both trying to decide what to do.  System restore somewhat helped but  my registration with V7-free was eliminated. I am now considered to be within the 14 day trial period of V7 Pro.  I'm afraid to turn this computer off (the only one working) for fear of something happening .

Updated AIS to 8 with no problems so far on Vista Home Premium 32bit.
However, the free version on my other pc showed a pop-up that it couldn't find/run a dll with a name something like aimsh.dll, can't remember exactly as I just clicked ok and it carried on.(I'd appreciate some feedback on this issue as I'd hate to think that it wasn't working as it should.)
I can't undertand why the free version shows a white background instead of black. Maybe something to do with the dll anomaly.
I agree that the GUI looks very "Bland" as mentioned earlier and I think smiley faces should only be used on supermarket staff uniforms. It looks really 'tacky'.
Time will tell if all is well 'Under the bonnet'.
As with all updates, Fingers Crossed!!  :-\

If this goes t**s up I'm going back to AVG for the free version.

Thanks once again to all of you guys at AVAST for a great AV.

I actually like the new UI, its modern and logical in layout (to me).

One question, I did a clean install, as I always do and everything seems to run as before but a first quick scan took almost double the time compared to the older version. Is that normal or could it be it will be quicker in subsequent scans? I will try again later but wondered if anyone else has encountered the same.

Wasnt' it just the network driver technology they purchased ? I also seem to remember "I think" one of the mod's saying this was the cause of many of the problems and they should have stuck to there own developments, so in the end did the Agnitum technology make it into the final build or did they turf it for there own ???

I can't remember either it was something like the drivers, handling protocols for mail, internet access, etc. with the normal avast firewall front end.

Updated from version 7 to version 8.0.1482 Through GUI .
Avast Pro Version.  All seems okay at the moment.

I wasn't impressed with Google chrome and Google  toolbar being ticked.
I feel if you want to give the option to install the above, option should be, to place a tick if you want them. :(

Cheers

Obtain v8 aswclear from here. -> http://files.avast.com/test5beta/aswclear.exe

Please use this link - http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/aswclear.exe

Pavels, thanks for the link.  The download link on http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility) is still pointing to an older version.

My computer wouldn’t restart after installing the Avast v. 8.0.1482 update.  I’ve tried twice: once through the program, & once through Avast’s website - but both times, it froze at the first restart screen.  I had to unplug, then run System Restore to get it up & running.  I have the Avast Free Edition v. 7.0.1482 & Vista-64 Home Premium.

Pavel’s forum post says, “It should be possible to install this version on top of your existing avast! Installation,” but that’s obviously not the case – at least, not for me.   I’ve had similar problems with previous updates, & was advised to run Avast’s Uninstall utility, then start over from scratch.

Will that fix this bug?  If so, do you have a link for that Uninstall utility?

That's strange because my quick scan was 4 minutes less than all previous scans.

The full scan was about 20 minutes faster than the older version.

I installed 8.x using the built-in updater of 7.x. After installation everything seemed fine, but then I tried watching a YouTube video. This caused both my browsers (IE 10.x and Fx 19.x) to freeze. When I upgraded from 6.x to 7.x I had the same problem, but that time I was having problems with all Flash videos. This seemed to be caused by the combination: Flash & Online Armor Free.

Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1 - all essential updates installed
Flash 11.6.602.171
Online Armor Free 6.0.0.1736

Lucky for me, I made an image before installing 8.x. I will not upgrade until this problem is solved...

There is no aswVmm.sys file (or does this file appear after installing 8.x?).

In any case, this shouldn't be happening...

As windows systems allow so many hardware variations there will be some unseen problems. It appears that none of the beta testers have the same system as you, as there were no reports of it during testing

Could you post your details in the linked thread and that will then be picked up

I alway loved avast and im alway going to be.

Why? Is because its a business of full friendly person. The Team employees and staffs which i guess did evolve very fast so it is very amazing to see...

To who say avast is bad well i CAN tell you one thing... They serve you with respect so give them some so in exchange i CAN say maybe a little sample send could make a world better and more safe.

We all know that security business is a hard market section to be there. But if your identity is protected well its by business like avast that are giving us an amazing free product.

Thank,

Regardless of my 'flame thrower' remarks about the interface (Just the front page really.) all seems to be well. I don't know if I'm imagining it, but general response time of apps has improved and file download speed has increased slightly.
The lack of the maximise button isn't a big deal as you can drag the edges to fit the screen, and it stays like it.
If it continues to function as well as it has in the last 24 hrs I will be well pleased.

I'm using a ASUS F1A75 motherboard which is probably the only FM1 motherboard that doesn't have onboard VGA, so I can't use the APU's GPU. I should have gone for ASUS F1A75-M, but like I said: long story. End of story; this is off-topic.

Well, I thought this new Avast 8 was supposed to fix the Self Defense Agent module issue that stacks avast! Firewall NDIS Filter Miniport errors, but it didn't! I am seeing the same errors that I installed a patch to stop.  That was a temporary fix that seemed to work but now they are back and I am having problems with getting to my school websites. Getting DNS errors and I am about to uninstall avast and ask for a refund. This is very annoying. I am using windows 8/64 bit. I am running update 8.0.1482.

I have disabled the module but the stacks of avast! Firewall NDIS Filter Miniport errors are not going away with system reboots! No choice but to uninstall...no way to fix it.

I've always liked avast. Basically the only AV that doesn't hog my machines old AMD chip and 256 ddr.. This new release isn't living up to its typical resource-lightness. It crashed when installing, so I done a clean install. The UI seems ok but the settings page, software updater and scan/installer are real slow. Settings page works until sounds tab and the rest doesn't load. The clean install worked as I tried it again to no avail. I'll wait and see if it's resolved soon but I might go back to my fave antivirus - avast v7. Heres hoping..

Spend just a little time browsing the User Interface it isn't that complex, with two main areas:
1. 'Security' and three sections. The Summary section is a summary of all of your shields. The Antivirus section  dealing with all of the Scans and the Shields. The Tools section any additional Tools you have installed.

2 'Maintenance' which is much the same as it was before, Updates, Registration, Virus Chest, Remote Assistance, About avast! but now includes the Scan Logs.

Support and the Settings sections remains very much as it was, with some minor changes.

There is enough room on the top window to display the program and vb database version numbers and status.  This is information that needs to be available at a glance.

For those moving to version 8 by updating from version 7, there is no option to omit the software updater.  I do not want this feature as it can be a nuisance, especially to novices whose systems are cared for by others more expert than they.

isn't there an option in the installation to untick the software updater? Otherwise you can go tho the configuration screen then go to programs and select avast chose for modify and then untick the software updater.

I went to Firefox Extensions and disabled Ad-Blocker.  You can go to the control panel and uninstall it.

This is an option during the installation if you choose "custom" which will provide the options to install only the features you want.

Settings/browser intergration and uninstall adblocker, you can also uninstall it via programs and features as it installs as a separate program.

Apparently Avast  is now able to scan mails also when SSL security is enabled in the mail client, but the current changelog doesn't mention it in any way.
As usual Avast changelogs are pretty useless and pointless. Whoever writes those changelos for Avast really need to read some changelogs released by Emsisoft (for example). Maybe this way they will learn something helpful and maybe I don't have to check every items in every windows of the program after each upgrade to find out what's new.

I agree that the change logs should be upgraded before releasing any program but as your now using a completely re-designed avast interface it's pays to have a nosey around and see what has changed anyway.

The avast Ad Blocker is 'based' on AdBlockPlus (ABP), it isn't in competition with it. That is why when it detects ABP installed on firefox it doesn't install the Ad Blocker extension. ABP offers more configurability and inclusion of other lists.

You don't have to now if you read the last several posts, just turn the security back on in your mail client and make sure the scan SSL connection is ticked in avast Mail Settings, also remember to delet the accounts from avast.

I received the one-time pop-up concerning the SSL scanning.  It is causing me some concern and confusion.

The instructions seem to be clear enough.  1) turn the SSL Security back on in my email client (Pegasus Mail),  2) Be sure the "scan SSL connection" is checked in Avast Mail Settings/SSL Scanning,  3) Delete mail accounts from Mail Shields Settings/SSL Scanning.

I need some clarification and reassurance on this.  I  have no problem turning SSL security back on in Pegasus.  "Scan SSL connection" is currently/already checked in Mail Shield Settings/SSL Scanning in Avast.

My question comes in step 3.  SSL scanning is set for two Comcast mail accounts:  a POP3, using port 995, and an SMTP, using port 465.

Do I need to delete these two accounts?  If I delete these two accounts, what effect will that have on my port settings?  Will Pegasus still use those same ports, or will I need to change them?

Don't both methods accomplish the same thing?  What is the advantage of having Pegasus do the SSL scanning rather than Avast?  Is it really necessary to change?

Please, help me to understand this.

Considerably disappointed with the new version8, have backed out to Version7.  Scan on Version8 did run much quicker using Custom scan of All Harddisks, Memory, Rootkits (full scan), and auto-start programs (all users).  Unfortunately it only scanned 120,000 versus the old version that scanned over 650,000 items.  Same computer same programs.  So I guess I'll wait a few weeks and try it again. Yes I did verify all my settings were the same.  Oh well, these things happen, will follow up and try again in the future.

I am using Pegasus Mail and had Mail Shield turned off.  I enabled it and there were a couple of entries in Avast's mail scanning settings which were for my ISP email accounts which doesn't require SSL which I deleted.  I do have a GMail account which does, but I have had Pegasus Mail set up to do the SSL connection for POP3, SMTP, and IMAP.  When I had Pegasus Mail check the servers for mail on all accounts via POP3, the connections worked fine.  IMAP was the same.  Avast Mail Shield seems transparent to me, but there were no mail with large attachments.

If you have modified your Pegasus Mail server settings, set them back up for SSL.

I have been following V8 since the first Beta.So when the final version came along i had to try it.
All the problems i had in v7 have been fixed.
It is now.i think, the best AV available.
The interface could have a little more orange in it although it is very functional as it is.

Updated 2 PCs and had no problems with the Avast parts, but!!!

The bundling of 'foistware' is not good. You have set the installation of Google Chrome as selected as is the hijacking of the user's homepage. This is not good practice at all, you should allow users to tick those boxes if they want Chrome and leave them blank if they don't. The default should be the unselected state. (I suspect that Google are paying some to have their unwanted software installed by stealth!)

The update on my laptop went fine after I had unticked the boxes, I don't use Chrome and definitely do not want my own carefully selected home page to be hijacked.  My wife failed to untick the boxes as she thought the dialog was only ablout finishing the Avst update installation, got Chrome which she doesn't want and lost her homepage!

So we had to uninstall Chrome, which was not without its problems. The Google uninstaller offers to revert back to your preferred browser and offers a list of installed browsers, so we selected the one we like to use and told it to revert our home page as well.  It did neither but offered to set up IE for us instead!  So I've had to manually reset preferred browser and home page which should not have been necessary. That is a fault with the Google software but Avast need to be aware of the problems created by the inclusion of the unwanted foistware.

'Foistware' is a term being used in the software industry for applications being installed alongside the wanted application but is not wanted by the user if they had a preferrence. It is characterised by the presence of the optional tick boxes that are preset to do the install, on the assumption that many will fail to notice it and thence not deselect the option, ending up with unwanted (and sometimes troublesome or dangerous software or malware.)

Just updated my avastfree 7 to avastfree 8 (rapid install) on my Windows 7 64-bit SP1.

I was used to see my MS weather forecast gadget on my desktop, but for some reason, after the upgrade the gadget does not update any longer (connexion to the server impossible)  : did I miss something in the settings of AVAST 8 or is it pure random coincidence ?

Thank you for any information :)

Is is underhand ploy to get us to upgrade in order to get mail protection?

I can't recommend it since now my system blue screens at startup.

I'm running Windows XP and Zone Alarm on an AMD PC.  I login at the login screen and while the system is loading it blue screens every time at the same place.  The systen was working fine using the previous version of Avast.

I tried to uninstall Avast in safe mode but the screen resolution is so low most of the display is off the screen and I can't get to anything.  There are no scroll bars so if it's not in the active display area I can't access it.

Is there a way I can uninstall Avast with a command line?  Or, is there a way I can stop Avast from loading and crashing my system so I can uninstall it?

Thanks for any help

You can use the aswclear (http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility) tool from Safe mode.

Do you have any minidump files (in C:\Windows\Minidump folder) with timestamps corresponding to the bluescreens? That could tell us what went wrong...
Thanks.

The reason of BSOD is Zonealarm, see:

It's quite easy to click on the security tab and then you'll be looking at a different interface, how often do you sit there and stare at the UI anyway ::)

There is also no need for you to post the same sort of comments in multiple threads on the forum, once is enough to state you opinion.

godforbid I state my opinion in two places. Its not like I'm spamming every thread everywhere with it. Trust, you'll live. Additionally, I'm finding it quite easy to not recommend 8.

for me? Yeah, I value the overall looks and ease of use of a UI more than I probably should. Its mainly a petpeeve of mine that I dont like using something that looks like it was designed for 12 year olds.

Pretty happy with AV8 , would be good that software updater would be disabled by new installation , so you can choose which updates (however minor issue) , AV is so far nbr 1 and leaves everybody behind ...one more thing, how can I paste/copy the scan log so I can research some malware ..
( I had a figaga.exe which I was able to delete but some others which are showing in the log but AV8 can't locate..) ..

PS.53 years of happiness ..awsome and jealous ..but mine after over 20 is going down ...wheres the miracle pill ...

Yep, I can't use Thunderbird now unless I turn of the MailShield, using gmail and it doesn't matter if I used SSL or not which means my mails are not being scanned

Is is underhand ploy to get us to upgrade in order to get mail protection?

same here! :(

I have the same problem. I tried adding my email server addresses to global exclusions and it can't work because the system adds http:// before the address and the address is https://!

Is anyone going to answer this question?

Because on previous versions of avast for it to handle the SSL emails previously listed in the SSL Accounts/Settings it needed a security certificate/s. These are effectively redundant with no entries in the SSL Settings.

I got funny think happen with Avast 8 installed on my Windows XP computer. After I'm empty my Recycle Bin, my Recycle Bin icon didn't change from full to empty. I must go recycle bin properties to get the right icon for my recycle bin.

Second, looks like there is so many delay when I'm accesing my files on my harddisk. So much problem I got with Avast 8. When I'm upgrade from Avast 6 to Avast 7 I think I don't have this so so much problem like this.

Why Avast 8 code change drastically form Avast 7?

I hope Avast didn't make the same mistake as M$. With this so much problem that Avast 8 had, is there any stable release in the future?
I remember Opera 12 had so much problem in their first release and until v12.04 there is still some problem with its performance when rendering some website.

I'm surprise that Avast change their Drivers like this in Avast 8. I just though when Avast release v8, it just its interface will change and a little bit on their code. Just like Avast 4 and Avast 6.

btw... thanks to @DavidR for his suggestion to go to Avast forum in Indonesia lang. I like in here @DavidR because I want to practise my english.  ;)

Well, I should like the new avast.
But I am thinking about switching to an other security product.
Why?

1.)
- Because of that stupid facebook registering method. I hate facebook with heart. This is a modern pest in the 21th century.
I hate to see this irritating shit everywhere on the web, and now on the media too.

Dear Avast! Please, remove facebook shits from your security softwares.

2.)
Confusing privacy policy:
I do not know this is because of the poor translation, but at last step when installing avast! a message told me that Avast! will not collect any personal information. A little below after this sentence on the same page, an other sentence stays that every collected information will be used anonymously.
Collecting or not collecting...that is the question.

Even the fact, that this "privacy policy" tab displayed makes me cautious. Why this message should be displayed if a security software should be a safe software basically collecting no personal data at all????

Waiting for your kind answers!

Curious where you have seen that facecrap logo. you dont need to use it.
And yes, facebook is the biggest spam on internet. but thats the same for some other things.
Just ignore the icon. DOnt expect its betetr with other software. if the dont do facecrap the think the are bad.

aha its hidden under recommend. well you normally dont see that. but preffer that
the hide that big tekst more and place soemthing more important there.

Hi!

Sorry about the privacy policy complain. It was actually the translator's bad.
When I installed avast! on an other PC, I used English language. With English I do not noticed that personal data collecting paradox.  The English policy strings stated that Avast! collect some information about my PC but use it anonymously.
Sorry again.

As for the facecrap issue... here is a screenshot what I am talking about
http://i46.tinypic.com/2djph1i.jpg (http://i46.tinypic.com/2djph1i.jpg)

Okay, I can ignore it, but why Avast! ?? Why?
Why You put that pest in your software?
You should help users block it, not supporting that guy who started that crap.
Title: Re: New AVAST 8!
Post by: igor on March 24, 2013, 12:59:38 PM
"Why" is simple - if someone is logged on Facebook (as many people are, like it or not), the registration is much faster as the user just clicks the button, and we get the e-mail address from Facebook (i.e. the user doesn't have to fill in that info). So it's just a convenience feature.

I've been using Avast for offline (no internet connection) computers for a while and updating by downloading the updates from http://www.avast.com/download-update . 'Crap, BSOD on boot scan'!

Decided to do a Avast re-install after a BSOD doing a boot scan - mistake!

It installed Chrome without ones knowledge....! The screen apparently with the option box is only on for a brief second, no wonder folks are angry we want Avast not Chrome - let Google do their own snooping.

And *NO* doing a custom install won't work either - why? Because there are no options there to install or not to install Google Chrome.

Simply put, the option box isn't on long enough to make ones choice! If this isn't going to be fixed.... then I'm off no more Avast for me.

Any 'sticky notes' to appease the angry few?

Thanks Bob, much appreciated.

Sorry to disappoint but yep I've used the removal tool, cleaned all Alwil & Avast Files... removed Registry entries for same incl. Google Chrome opt in/out all to no avail.

Problem is as discovered, is the  opt in/out  screen is only visible for no more than a couple of seconds. Some people elsewhere tells you do a custom install..... do they really know what they are talking about I ask?

If you look at the custom install screen there ain't no option to opt in or out of Google Chrome - only Avast modules, they just don't comprehend! The only option  is the 'flash screen' that appears very briefly as said, of course there's always the manual method of removal I suppose -  I refuse to go down that Street because I shouldn't have to do.

Thanks, Dave
